अवलोक्य भृशं तुष्टा दण्डिनी तमुवाच ह
Seeing this, the staff-bearing woman became greatly pleased and spoke to him.
देवकार्यमिद किञ्च निर्विघ्नितमिदं कृतम्
This is the work of the gods; it has been accomplished without hindrance.
सोमपानवदत्यन्तमुपयोज्यो भविष्यसि
You shall be employed just like the drinker of Soma, to the utmost degree.
यागेषु मन्त्रपूतेन पीतेन भवता जनाः
In sacrifices, people will drink you, purified by mantra.
दत्तात्रेयो विधिर्विष्णुस्त्वां पास्यन्ति महाजनाः
Dattatreya, the Creator, and Vishnu—great people will drink you.
यागे समर्चितस्त्वं तु सर्वसिद्धिं प्रदास्यसि
When worshipped in sacrifice, you will grant all accomplishments.
इत्थं वरप्रदानेन तोषयित्वा सुरांबुधिम्
Thus, by granting boons and pleasing the ocean of gods,
पुनः प्रववृते युद्धं शक्तीनां दानवैः सह
Again, battle commenced between the powers and the demons.
शक्तयो दैत्यचक्रेषु न्यपतन्नेकहेलया
The powers fell upon the circles of demons with effortless ease.
मदरागेण चक्षूंषि दैत्यरक्तेन शस्त्रिका
With eyes intoxicated by passion, the weapon-bearers were stained with the blood of demons.
यथा मृत्युरवित्रस्तः प्रजाः संहरते स्वयम्
Just as death, fearless, destroys creatures by his own will,
स्खलदक्षरसंदर्भवीरभाषा रणोद्धताः
Bold in battle, their heroic speech was broken and disjointed.
युवराजस्य सैन्यानि शक्त्यः समानाशयन्
The powers laid waste to the armies of the prince.
अक्षौहिणीसार्द्धशत नाशयामास मन्त्रिणी
The minister destroyed a hundred and a half divisions.
अक्षौहिणीसार्धशतं नित्युरन्तकमन्दिरम्
A hundred and a half divisions were sent perpetually to the abode of death.
उलूकजितमुन्मथ्य परलोकातिथिं व्यधात्
Having crushed Uluka’s victory, she made him a guest in the world beyond.
परुषेण मुखान्यन्यान्यवरुद्धाव्यदारयन्
With harshness, she struck at the faces of others, restraining and tearing them apart.
विशुक्रं योधयामास श्यामला कोपशालिनी
The dark, wrathful one engaged Viśukra in battle.
महता रणकृत्येन योधयामास मन्त्रिणी
The counselor fought with great valor in the battle.
क्रमशः खण्डयन्ती सा केतनं रथसारथिम्
Step by step, she shattered the banner and the charioteer.
अस्त्रेण ब्रह्मशिरसा ज्वलत्पावकरोचिषा
With the Brahmaśiras weapon, blazing with fiery radiance,
विषङ्गं च महादैत्यं दण्डनाथा मदोद्धता
The intoxicated commander struck at Viṣaṅga, the great demon.
उद्यम्य बाहुना युद्धं चकाराशेषभीषणम्
Raising her arm, she waged a terrifying and unending battle.
चण्डाट्टहासमुखरौ परिभ्रमणकारिणौ
Their mouths resounded with fierce laughter as they whirled about.
अन्योन्यदण्डहननैर्मोहयन्तौ मुहुर्मुहुः
Again and again, they bewildered each other by striking with their staffs.
अयुध्येतां दुराधर्षौं दण्डिनीदैत्यशेखरौ
Those two, the formidable Daṇḍinī and the chief of the demons, fought, difficult to overcome.
संक्रुद्धा हन्तुमारेभे विषङ्गं दण्डनायिका
Enraged, Daṇḍanāyikā set out to slay Viṣaṅga.
कठोरं ताडनं चक्रे मुसलेनाथ पोत्रिणी
Potriṇī delivered a harsh blow with her mace.
चूर्णितेन शताङ्गेन समं भूतलमाश्रयत्

तत्रैव तं निशा शेषं निन्यतुः शिबिरं प्रति
