मोहनास्त्रविनिष्ठ्यूतान्बाणान्दैत्या न सेहिरे
The Daityas could not withstand the arrows released by the bewildering missile.
प्रकोपं परमं प्राप्ता बलाहकमुखाः खलाः
Those wicked ones, like masses of clouds, became extremely enraged.
अन्धाभिधं महास्त्रं सा मुमोच द्विषतां गणे
She released the great missile called Andha among the hosts of her enemies.
अन्धास्त्रेण निजं नेत्रं दधिरे च्छादितं यथा
By the Andha missile, their own eyes became as if covered and blinded.
उद्गतेनान्धबाणेन चक्षुस्तेषां व्यधीयत
By the rising Andha arrow, their sight was destroyed.
तद्वीक्षणस्य विरहाच्छस्त्रस्तम्भः क्षयं गतः
Because they could not see her, the paralysis of their weapons came to an end.
चक्रुः समरसन्नाहं दैत्यानां प्रजिघांसया
They made ready for battle, intent on destroying the Daityas.
सदुपायप्रसङ्गेन भृशं तुष्टा रणं व्यधुः
By employing the proper means, they became greatly pleased and engaged in combat.
स्थाने कृततिरस्कारा द्विपामेषां दुरात्मनाम्
It is fitting that these wicked ones among mortals have been cast aside.
त्वया बद्धदृशानेन दैत्यचक्रेण भूयते
By you, with unwavering vision, the host of Daityas is being subdued.
अस्मादृशामजय्येषु यदेषु व्यसनं कृतम्
Among those like us, who are unconquered, misfortune has been brought about by arrows.
निहतांल्ललिता श्रुत्वा सन्तोषं परमाप्स्यति
Hearing that the enemies have been slain, Lalitā will attain supreme satisfaction.
मन्त्रिण्यपि महाभागायास्यत्येव परां मुदम्
Even the most fortunate minister will experience great joy.
एषां सैन्यं तु निखिलं नाशयाम उदायुधाः
With our excellent weapons, let us destroy their entire army.
तमोलिप्तेन यानेन बलाहकबलं ययौ
With a chariot shrouded in darkness, she advanced toward the cloud-formed battalion.
पुनरेव च सावित्रं वरं सस्मरुरञ्जसा
Again, with devotion, they remembered the Sāvitra boon.
तिरस्कृतं तु नेत्रस्थं तिरस्करणितेजसा
Hidden from sight, yet present in the eye, with the radiance of the Tiraskaraṇa weapon.
आकृष्य केशेष्वसिना चकर्तान्तर्धिदेवता
Seizing them by the hair, she struck with her sword, the hidden goddess.
सूचीमुखस्याभिमुखं तिरस्करणिका व्रजत्
The Tiraskaraṇikā weapon went straight toward Sūcīmukha.
अन्येषामपि पञ्चानां पञ्चत्वमकरोच्छनैः
She quietly brought about the death of five others as well.
हारदाम गले कृत्वा ननादान्तर्धिदेवता
Placing a garland of jewels on her neck, the hidden goddess roared.
हत्वा तद्रक्तसलिलैर्बह्वीः प्रावाहयन्नदीः
Having slain them, she caused many rivers to flow with their blood.
बलाहकादिसेनान्यां दृष्टिरोधनवैभवात्
In the army of Balāhaka and others, by the power of obstructed sight.
शरणं जग्मुरत्यार्त्ताः क्रन्दन्तं शून्यकेश्वरम्
Utterly distressed, they sought refuge with Śūnyakeśvara, crying out.
प्रसादमपरं चक्षुस्तस्या आदायपिप्रियुः
They took away her other eye, her gentle gaze.
तिरस्करणिकां देवीमश्लाघन्त पदेपदे
They insulted the goddess at every step, treating her with contempt.
न्यश्वसत्कृष्णसर्पेन्द्र इव भण्डो महासुरः
The great demon Bhaṇḍa sighed like the black serpent king.
भण्डः प्रचण्डशैण्डीर्यः काङ्क्षमाणो रणे जयम्
Bhaṇḍa, fierce and lion-like, longed for victory in battle.
भण्डासुरं नमस्कृत्य मन्त्रस्थानमुपागमत्
Having bowed to Bhaṇḍāsura, he approached the place of mantra recitation.
ललिताविजये मन्त्रं चकार क्वथिताश्यः
With a mouth parched from boiling, he recited the mantra for victory over Lalitā.
