सर्पिणी बहुधा सर्पान्विससर्ज शरीरतः
Sarpiṇī released many serpents from her body.
नानाविधवपुर्वर्णा नानादृष्टिभयङ्कराः
Of various forms and colors, dreadful with diverse appearances.
दारदं वत्सनाभं च कालकूटमथापरम्
Dārada, Vatsanābha, Kālakūṭa, and others.
प्रतिपन्नं शौक्लिकेयमन्यान्यपि विषाणि च
She produced Śauklika and other poisons as well.
विकिरन्तः शक्तिसैन्ये विसम्रुः सर्पिणीतनोः
Scattering them among the army of Śakti, they spread from Sarpiṇī's body.
सर्पिण्या नयनद्वन्द्वा दुत्थिताः क्रोधदीपिताः
Sarpiṇī's pair of eyes blazed forth, ignited by anger.
सर्पिण्याः कर्णकुहरादुत्थिताः सर्पकोटयः
From Sarpiṇī's ear cavities, masses of serpents emerged.
आस्यादा नीलवपुषः सर्पिण्याः फणिनो ऽभवन्
From the mouth of Sarpiṇī, serpents with dark bodies appeared.
नासिकाविवरात्तस्या उद्गता उग्ररोचिषः
From her nostrils, fierce, radiant serpents came forth.
नाभिकुण्डाच्च बहवो रक्तवर्णा भयानकाः
From her navel cavity, many blood-red, terrifying serpents emerged.
विदशन्तः शक्तिसेनां दहन्तो विषवह्निभिः
Biting the army of Śakti, burning them with poisonous fire.
अत्यन्तमाकुलां चक्रुर्ललितेशीचमूममी
They threw the army of Lalitā into utter confusion.
खण्ड्यमाना अपि मुहुः शक्तीनां शस्त्रकोटिभिः
Though repeatedly struck by the sharp edges of weapons and spears,
नश्यन्ति बहवः सर्पा जायन्ते चापरे पुनः
many serpents were destroyed, yet others were born again.
मूलभूता यतो दुष्टा सर्पिणी न विनश्यति
Because the wicked Sarpiṇī is the root cause, she does not perish.
ततश्चशक्तिसैन्यानां शरीराणि विषानलैः
Then, the bodies of the Śakti warriors were burned by the fire of poison.
किङ्कर्तव्यविमूढेषु शक्तिचक्रेषु भोगिभिः
In the midst of the Śakti formations, bewildered as to what should be done, were the serpents.
करीन्द्री गर्दभशतैर्युक्तं स्यन्दनमास्थितः
Mounted on a chariot drawn by hundreds of donkeys and elephants,
वज्रदन्ताभिधश्चान्यो भण्डदैत्यचमूपतिः
was another, named Vajradanta, the commander of the Bhaṇḍa demon army.
