कुरण्डो न्यपतद्भूमौ वज्ररुग्ण इव द्रुमः
Kuraṇḍa fell to the ground like a tree shattered by a thunderbolt.
तत्सैन्यं पाशनिष्यन्दं भक्षयित्वा क्षयं गताः
Having devoured the army, streaming with nooses, they met their end.
हतावशिष्टास्ते दैत्याः प्रपलायन्त वै द्रुतम्
The surviving Daityas, having been slain, fled swiftly.
श्रुत्वा शून्यकनाथो ऽपि निशश्वास भुजङ्गवत्
Hearing this, even the lord of Śūnyaka sighed like a serpent.
कुटिलाक्षमिदं प्रोचे पुनरेव युयुत्सया
Kuṭilākṣa spoke this again, desiring battle.
यच्च नो शङ्कितं चित्ते तदेतत्कष्टमागतम्
That which we feared in our hearts—this very hardship has come.
दुष्टदास्याः प्रभावो ऽयं मायाविन्या महत्तरः
This is the influence of the wicked maidservant, whose deception is exceedingly great.
शतमक्षौहिणीनां च प्रस्थापय रणाङ्गणे
Dispatch a hundred divisions of troops onto the battlefield.
सर्वथैव विजेष्यन्ते दुर्विदग्धविलासिनीम्
They will certainly be defeated by the cunning and capricious woman.
कुटिलाक्षः करङ्कादीनाजुहाव चमूपतीन्
Kuṭilākṣa summoned the commanders, such as Karaṅka and others.
अग्नौ प्रविष्णव इव क्रोधान्धा निर्ययुः पुरात्
Blinded by rage, they rushed out from the city like those entering fire.
आकर्ण्य दिग्गजास्तूर्णं शीर्णकर्णा जुघूर्णिरे
Hearing this, the elephants of the quarters, with torn ears, trembled violently.
उत्तरङ्गतुरङ्गादि बभौ मत्तमतङ्गजम्
The northern waves and horses shone, along with the intoxicated elephants.
बृंहमाणगजं गर्जद्रथयक्रं चचाल तत्
The swelling elephants, roaring chariots, and yaks shook that place.
बभूवे तुहिनासारच्छन्नेनेव विवस्वता
It appeared as if the sun were covered by a shower of snow.
क्वचिच्छब्दमयं चैव निःसाणकठिनस्वनैः

इयत्तयातः सेनायाः संख्यापि परिभाविता

वित्रेसुरमराः सर्वे शक्तीनां भङ्गशङ्कया

सर्पिणीं नाम समरे मायां चक्रुर्महीयसीम्

धूम्रवर्णा च धूम्रोष्ठी धूम्रवर्मपयोधरा

पुरश्चचाल शक्तीनान्त्रासयन्ती मनो रणे
She moved ahead, terrifying the minds of those wielding weapons in battle.
सर्पाणामुद्भवस्थानं मायामयशरीरिणाम्
It was the birthplace of serpents, whose bodies were formed of illusion.
वेल्लितं बहुधा चक्रे घोरारावविराविणी
She caused much agitation, roaring fiercely with terrifying cries.
करङ्काद्या दुरात्मानः पञ्चपञ्चत्त्वकामुकाः
The wicked ones beginning with Karaṅka, desirous of the five sets of elements.
अन्योन्यवीरभाषाभिः प्रोत्साहितघनक्रुधाम्

शक्तयो दानवश्चैव प्रजहुः शस्त्रपाणयः
The powers and the Dānavas, weapons in hand, engaged in battle.
प्रवृत्तविशिखस्रोतःप्रच्छन्नहरिदन्तरे
With streams of arrows flowing forth, concealed amidst the green.
मांसकर्दमनिर्मग्ननिष्पन्दरथमण्डले
Immersed in flesh and mud, within motionless circles of chariots.
अतिनिष्ठुरविध्वंसि सिंहनादभयङ्करे
Utterly fierce and destructive, with terrifying lion-roars.
