निर्जगाम पुरात्तूर्णं कुरण्डश्चण्डविक्रमः
Kuraṇḍa, fierce in valor, emerged swiftly from the city.
दुर्मदस्याग्रजश्चण्डः कुरण्डः समरं ययौ
Kuraṇḍa, the elder brother of Durmada, went forth to battle.
शोकरोषग्रहग्रस्तो जवनाश्वगतो ययौ
Gripped by the forces of grief and anger, he rode out on a swift horse.
ववर्ष शरधारभिः संपत्कर्या महाचमूम्
He showered the great army with streams of arrows as he advanced.
वृथा वहसि विक्रान्तिलवलेशं महामदम्
In vain you bear a trace of valor, overwhelmed by excessive pride.
अन्तकस्य पुरीमत्र प्रापयिष्यामि पश्य माम्
I will bring you to the city of Death; behold me now.
अपूर्वमङ्गनारक्तं पिबन्तु रणपूतनाः
Let the battle-fiends drink the unprecedented blood of warriors.
अधुना भोक्ष्यसे दुष्टे पश्य मे भुजयोर्बलम्
Now, wicked one, you shall be consumed; witness the strength of my arms.
सैन्यं प्रोत्साहयामास शक्तिसेनाविमर्दने
He encouraged his army for the crushing of the mighty enemy forces.
विमर्दयितुमुद्युक्ता स्वसैन्यं प्रोदसीसहत्
Eager to strike, she drove her own troops against the enemy.
अश्वरूढा समागत्य सस्नेहार्द्रमिदं वचः
Mounted on horseback, she approached and spoke these affectionate, gentle words.
अस्य युद्धमिदं देहि मम कर्तुं गुणोत्तरम्
Grant me this battle, so I may perform a deed of highest merit.
याचितासि सखित्वेन नात्र संशयमाचर
You have been requested in friendship; entertain no doubt here.
निवर्तयामास चमूङ्कुरुण्डाभिमुखोत्थिताम्
She turned back the troops that had arisen facing Kuraṇḍa.
तरङ्गा इव सैन्याब्धेस्तुरङ्गा वातरंहसः
Like waves in the ocean of armies, the horses sped swiftly with the wind.
पेतुरेकप्रवाहेण कुरण्डस्य चमूमुखे
They plunged in a single stream toward the front of Kuraṇḍa's army.
घतिभेदेषु चारेषु पञ्चधा खुरपातने
In the breaking of formations and maneuvers, hoof-strikes split the ground fivefold.
चतुराभिस्तुरङ्गस्य हृदयज्ञाभिराहवे
With four heart-wise horses, she fought in the battle.
प्रोत्साहिताः कुरण्डेन समयुध्यन्त दुर्मदाः
Incited by Kuraṇḍa, the arrogant ones engaged in battle.
अभ्यद्रवद्दुराचारमश्वारूढाः कुरण्डकम्
Mounted on horses, the wicked advanced against Kuraṇḍa.
संध्यानुरक्तशीतांशुमण्डलीसुंदरानना
Her face was beautiful like the orb of the cool-rayed moon, tinged with the hues of twilight.
अवाकिरच्छरासारैः कुरण्डं तुरगानना
The horse-faced one showered Kuraṇḍa with volleys of arrows.
दिशो दश व्यानशिरे रुक्मपुङ्खाः शिलीमुखाः
Ten directions were filled with golden-feathered, sharp-tipped arrows.
विशिखैः शार्ङ्गनिष्ठ्यूतैरश्वारूढा मवाकिरत्
Mounted on horses, they showered arrows released from Śārṅga.
अश्वारूढातुरङ्गो ऽपि मर्दयामास दानवान्
Mounted on a horse, Turaṅga crushed the Dānavas.
अमूर्च्छयन्ननेकानि तस्यानीतानि वैरिणः
He rendered many of the enemy brought there unconscious.
निजं पाशायुधं दिव्यं मुमोच ज्वलिताकृति
He released his own divine noose-weapon, blazing in form.
समस्तमपि तत्सैन्यं बद्ध्वाबद्ध्वा व्यमूर्छयन्
Binding and unbinding, he rendered that entire army unconscious.
सरेणैकेन चिच्छेद तस्या मणिधनुर्गुणम्
With a single arrow, she cut the jeweled bowstring of her opponent.
अङ्कुशं पातयामास तस्य वक्षसि दुर्मतेः
She struck his chest with the goad, O wicked-minded one.
