शक्तयो भृशसंक्रुद्धा दैत्यसेनाममर्दयन्

अधिष्ठितो दुर्मदेन वाहनोष्ट्रश्चचाल ह
With Durmada riding him, the camel vehicle began to tremble.
दानावनश्वसत्सर्वान्भीताञ्छक्तियुयुत्सया
Desiring to fight with the spears, Durmada terrified all the demons, who lost their breath.
संपत्करीचमूचक्रं वनं वार्भिरिवांबुदः
He rushed upon the battalion of Sampatkari like a rain cloud upon a forest.
स्तंभितेवाभवत्सेना संपत्कर्याः क्षणं रणे
For a moment in battle, the army of Sampatkari stood motionless.
रणकोलाहलगजमारूढायुध्यतामुना
Mounted on an elephant, she fought, her weapons resounding amidst the tumult of war.
तस्याश्चाकृष्य कोदण्डमौर्वीमाकर्णमाहवे
In that battle, she drew back her bow, bending the string to her ear.
ददृशे घनुषश्चक्रं केवलं शरधारणे
On her bow, only the wheel of the bowstring could be seen, so swift was the flight of arrows.
शराः सम्पत्करीचापच्युताः समदहन्नरीन्
Arrows released from Sampatkari's bow struck down the enemy women.
अभूदन्योन्यसंघट्टाद्विस्फुलिङ्गशिलीमुखैः
From their mutual collision, sparks flew from the iron-tipped arrows.
अन्धकारः समभवत्तिरस्कुर्वन्नहस्करम्
Darkness arose, obscuring the radiance of the sun.
विष्फुलिङ्गा विदधिरे दधिरे भ्रमचातुरीम्
Sparks flew forth, displaying restless movement.
पराक्रमं बहुविधं दर्शयामास संगरे
He exhibited manifold valor in the battle.
उदग्रदन्तमुसलघातैरन्यांश्च दानवान्
With fierce blows of tusks and pestle-like strikes, he attacked other demons.
गात्रव्यामर्द्दनैरन्यान्नखघातैस्तथापरान्
He crushed some with the force of his limbs, and others with strikes of his nails.
चतुरं चरितं चक्रे संपद्देवीमतङ्गजः
The elephant of the goddess's fortune performed a skillful maneuver.
संपत्करीमुकुटगं मणिमेकमपाहरत्
He seized a single jewel from the crown of the victorious one.
विक्षतो वक्षसि क्षिप्रं दुर्मदो जीवितं जहौ
Pierced swiftly in the chest, the arrogant one lost his life.
तत्सैनिकवरास्त्वन्ये निहता दानवोत्तमाः
Other distinguished warriors among the demons were slain.
पलायिता रणक्षोण्याः शून्यकं पुरमाश्रयन्
Those who fled from the battlefield took refuge in the deserted city.
तद्वृत्तान्तमथाकर्ण्य संक्रुद्धो दानवेश्वरः
Hearing of these events, the lord of the demons became enraged.
कुटिलाक्षं निकटगं बभाषे पृतनापतिम्
He spoke to the commander, who stood nearby with crooked eyes.
निपातितवती युद्धे कष्ट एव विधेः क्रमः
She has struck down in battle; such is the harsh course of fate.
अभूत्प्रतिहतं सो ऽपि दुर्मदो ऽबलया हतः

Kuṭilākṣa said to him: Go, prepare the soldiers.
कूटयुद्धे च निपुणस्तां स्त्रियं परिमर्दय
Being skilled in deceptive warfare, crush that woman.
