अबलानां समूहस्छेद्बलिनो ऽस्मान्विजेष्यते
If a group of powerless ones defeats us, though we are strong—
ऊह्यमानमिदं हन्तुं परिहासाय कल्प्यते
This attempt to destroy us is being made as a mockery.
अस्मत्सैनिकनासीरभटेभ्यो ऽपि भवेद्भयम्
Even our fierce soldiers would feel fear from these killers of our army.
ब्रह्मादयश्च निर्विण्णविग्रहा मद्बलायुधैः
Even Brahma and the others, their forms dispirited, have been subdued by my strength and weapons.
अन्येषामिह का वार्ता दिक्पालास्ते पलायिताः
What need is there to speak of others here? The guardians of the directions have fled.
सर्वत्र विद्धवर्माणो दुर्मदा विबुधाः कृताः
Everywhere, the arrogant gods have been wounded and their armor pierced.
अस्माकंविजयायाद्य स्त्री काचिदभिधावति
Today, for our victory, a certain woman is rushing forward.
अल्पो ऽपि रिपुरात्मज्ञैर्नावमान्यो जिगीषुभिः
Even a small enemy, if known to be wise, should not be underestimated by those who wish to conquer.
सकचग्रहमाकृष्य सानेतव्या मदोद्धता
Seize her by the hair and drag her here, for she is mad with pride.
चिरेण चेटिकाभावं सा दुष्टा संश्रयिष्यति
In time, that wicked woman will accept the condition of a slave-girl.
शङ्कते खलु वित्रस्तं त्रैलोक्यं सचराचरम्
Indeed, she suspects that the three worlds, with all moving and unmoving beings, are terrified.
निवेद्य भण्डदैत्यस्य क्रोधं तस्य व्यवीवृधत्
When the anger of the demon Bhaṇḍa was reported, his fury increased.
इदमाह महादैत्यमग्रजन्मानमुद्धतम्
He spoke these words to the great demon, his arrogant elder brother.
न तु ते क्वापि वक्तव्यं नीतिवर्त्मनि वर्तते
But you should never say that he walks the path of righteousness.
अविचारेण चेत्कर्म समूलमवकृन्तति
If an action is undertaken without reflection, it cuts off its root entirely.
तेषां बलाबलं ज्ञेयं जयसंसिद्धिमिच्छता
One who desires to achieve victory must discern the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.
अशङ्किताकारवांश्च गुप्तमन्त्रः स्वमन्त्रिषु
He who appears without suspicion and keeps his counsel secret even among his own advisors—
विजयं लभते राजा जाल्मो मक्षु विनश्यति
Such a king attains victory, while the foolish one quickly perishes.
विमृश्य तु कृतं कर्म विशेषाज्जयदायकम्
But an action performed after due consideration, especially, brings about success in battle.
नावज्ञा वैरिणां कार्या शक्तेः सर्वत्र सम्भवः
One should never underestimate the enemy, for power may arise anywhere.
भूतेन सर्वभूतानां हिरण्यकशिपुर्हतः
By a being among all beings, Hiraṇyakaśipu was slain.
निशुम्भशुंभौ महिषं व्यापादितवती रणे
Niśumbha and Śumbha, as well as Mahiṣa, were destroyed in battle.
अतो वदामिनावज्ञा स्त्रीमात्रे क्रियतां क्वचित्
Therefore I say: let there never be contempt shown toward a mere woman.
शक्तेराधारतां प्रप्तैः स्त्रीपुंलिङ्गैर्न नो भयम्
For those who have attained the support of power, whether female or male, there is no fear for us.
तर्हि तस्या दुराशायाः प्रवृत्तिर्ज्ञायतां त्वया
Therefore, you must discern the intentions of that wicked one.
किंबला किंसहाया वा देव तत्प्रविचार्यताम्
O god, consider carefully: what is her strength, what allies does she have?
अस्मद्बले महासत्त्वा अक्षौहिण्यधिपाः शतम्
In our army are great heroes, a hundred lords of divisions.
अरे पापसमाचार किंवृथा शङ्कसे स्त्रियः
O you of evil conduct, why do you harbor such baseless suspicion toward women?
अग्रे समुदिता काचिल्ललितानामधारिणी
At the front stands one who bears the grace of all the charming ones.
न स्त्त्वं न च वीर्यं वा न संग्रामेषु वा गतिः
There is neither strength nor valor in you, nor any prowess in battle.
