सारसः पञ्चमश्चैव चामुण्डा च तथा परा
Sārasa is the fifth, and likewise Cāmuṇḍā, the supreme.
गेयच क्ररथेन्द्रस्य सारथिस्तु हसंतिका
The charioteer of the lord of the Geyacakra chariot is Hasaṃtikā.
दशयोजनमुन्नम्रो ललितारथपुङ्गवः
The foremost chariot of Lalitā rises ten yojanas high.
षड्योजनसमुन्नम्रो किरिचक्ररथो मुने
O sage, the chariot with the wheel of spears rises six yojanas high.
वर्तते ललितेशान्या रथ एव न चान्यतः
It is found only on the chariot of Laliteśā, not elsewhere.
सामान्यमातपत्रं तु तथद्वन्द्वेपि वर्तते
The common umbrella is also present in both pairs.
महासाम्राज्यपदवीमारूढा परमेश्वरी
The supreme goddess has ascended to the station of great sovereignty.
शब्दायन्ते दिशः सर्वाः कंपते च वसुंधरा
All directions resound, and the earth trembles.
देवदुन्दुभयो नेदुर्निपेतुः पुष्पवृष्टयः
The divine drums thundered, and showers of flowers fell.
तुम्बुरुर्नारदश्चैव साक्षादेव सरस्वती
Tumburu, Nārada, and indeed Sarasvatī herself were present.
मुहुर्जयजयेत्येवं स्तुवाना ललितेश्वरीम्
Thus, repeatedly praising Laliteśvarī, they worshipped her.
सप्तर्षयो वशिष्ठाद्या ऋग्यजुः सामरूपिभिः
The seven sages, beginning with Vasiṣṭha, along with those embodying the Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas,
हविषेव महावह्निशिखामत्यन्तपाविनीम्
With offerings, like a great flame, supremely pure,
तैः स्तूयमाना ललिता राजमाना रथोत्तमे
Lalitā, being praised by them, shone resplendent upon her excellent chariot.
भण्डासुरं विनिर्जेतुमुद्दण्डैः सह सैनिकैः
She set out to conquer Bhaṇḍāsura, together with her mighty warriors.
महान्तं क्षोभमायाता भण्डासुरपुरालयाः
A great disturbance arose among the inhabitants of Bhaṇḍāsura's city.
महेन्द्रपर्वतोपान्ते महार्णवतटे पुरम्
The city stood at the edge of Mount Mahendra, on the shore of the vast ocean.
विषङ्गाग्रजदैत्यस्य सदावासः किलाभवत्
It was always the abode of Viṣaṅga's elder brother, the demon.
वित्रेसुर सुराः सर्वे श्रीदेव्यागमसंभ्रमात्
All the gods fled, overwhelmed by the agitation caused by Śrī Devī's arrival.
धूमैरिवावृतमभूदुत्पातजनितैर्मुहुः
Again and again, the city was shrouded as if by smoke, produced by ominous events.
धूर्णमाना पतन्ति स्म महोल्का गगनस्थलात्
Great meteors fell swiftly from the sky.
मही जज्वाल सकला तत्र शून्यकपत्तने
The entire earth blazed there, in the deserted city.
ध्वजाग्रवर्तिनः कङ्कगृध्राश्चैव बकाः खगाः
On the tops of banners, vultures, kites, and cranes perched.
क्रव्यादा बहवस्तत्र लोचनैर्नावलोकिताः
Many flesh-eaters were there, unseen by their own eyes.
सर्वतो दिक्षुदृश्यन्ते केतवस्तु मलीमसाः
Everywhere, dirty banners could be seen in all directions.
दैत्यस्त्रीणां च विभ्रष्टा अकाले भूषणस्रजः
The ornaments and garlands of the demon women had fallen off prematurely.
दपणानां वर्मणां च ध्वजानां खड्गसंपदाम्
Mirrors, armor, banners, and collections of swords,
सौधेषु चन्द्रशालासु केलिवेश्मसु सर्वतः
In palaces, moonlit halls, and pleasure houses, everywhere,
चतुष्किकास्वलिङ्गेषु प्रग्रीवेषु वलेषु च
In the quadrangular symbols, in the marks on the neck, and in the lines as well,
स्वस्तिकेषु च सर्वेषु गर्भागारपुटेषु च
In all the svastika signs and in the chambers of the womb,
