यथार्हं पूजयित्वा तु प्रेषयामास चांबिका
Having worshipped them as was proper, Ambikā sent them forth.
स्वस्वांशैः शिवयोः सेवामादिपित्रोरकुर्वत
With their own portions, they rendered service to Śiva and his consort, the primeval parents.
आविर्भावं महादेव्यास्तस्या राज्याभिषेचनम्
The manifestation of the great goddess and her consecration as sovereign—
जपेद्धनसमृद्धः स्यात्सुधासंमितवाग्भवेत्
One who recites this becomes rich in wealth and eloquent as the nectar gods.
यशः प्राप्नोति विपुलं समानोत्तमतामपि
He attains abundant fame, even surpassing the highest among his peers.
कदाचिन्न भयं तस्य तेजस्वी वीर्यवान्भवेत्
He never experiences fear; he becomes radiant and endowed with valor.
त्रिसंध्यं यो जपेन्नित्यं ध्यात्वा सिंहासनेश्वरीम्
Whoever recites daily at the three junctions, meditating upon the sovereign seated on the lion throne,
षण्मासान्महतीं लक्ष्मीं प्राप्नुयाज्जापकोत्तमः
The foremost reciter obtains great prosperity within six months.
त्रैलोक्यकण्टकं भण्डं दैत्यं जेतुं विनिर्ययौ
To conquer the demon Bhaṇḍa, the thorn of the three worlds, she set out.
प्रभूतमर्द्दलध्वानैः पूरयामासुरंबरम्
With the resounding noise of abundant drums, she filled the sky.
सेलुकाझल्लरीराङ्घाहुहुकाहुण्डुकाघटाः
Seluka, jhallarī, rāṅghā, huhukā, huṇḍukā, ghaṭā—
यवमध्या मुष्टिमध्या मर्द्दलाडिण्डिमा अपि
Yavamadhyā, muṣṭimadhyā, marddala, and ḍiṇḍimā as well,
उद्धकाश्चैतुहुण्डाश्च निःसाणा बर्बराः परे
Uddhakā, caituhuṇḍā, niḥsāṇā, and barbarā, others besides,
दध्वनुः शक्तिसेनाभिराहताः समरोद्यमे
The sound of drums, struck by armies of Śaktis, echoed in the fervor of battle.
संपत्करी नाम देवी चचाल सह शक्तिभिः
The goddess named Saṃpatkarī advanced, together with her Śaktis.
सेविता तरुणादित्यपाटला संपदीश्वरी
She was served by Saṃpadīśvarī, radiant as a young sun and crimson-hued.
रणकोलाहलं नाम सारुरोह मतङ्गजम्
She ascended the elephant named Raṇakolāhala.
लोलाभिः केतुमालाभिरुल्लिखन्ती धनाधनात्
With her restless, banner-bearing attendants, she swept across the realm of wealth and poverty.
कण्टको घनसंनाहो रुरुचे वक्षसिस्थितः
A thorn, dense and massive, shone upon her chest.
कुटिला कालनाथस्य भृकुटीव भयङ्करा
Curved and terrifying as the frown of Kālanātha, it inspired fear.
तामन्वगा ययुः कोटिसंख्याकाः कुञ्जरोत्तमाः
Countless elephants, numbering in the tens of millions, followed her.
अतित्वरितविक्रान्तिरश्वारूढाचलत्पुरः
Mounted on swift horses, they advanced rapidly at the forefront.
व्यचरत्खुरकुद्दालविदारितमहीतलम्
She moved about, the earth's surface torn open by the blows of hooves and digging tools.
टङ्कणाः पर्वतीयाश्च पारसीकास्तथा परे
There were horses from the mountainous regions, from Persia, and from other distant lands.
वाल्मीकयावनोद्भूता गान्धर्वाश्चाथ ये हयाः
There were horses born in anthills and grasslands, and also Gandharva horses.
विनीताः साधुवोढारो वेगिनः स्थिरचेतसः
They were well-trained, noble, swift, and steady-minded.
लक्षणैर्बहुभिर्युक्ता जितक्रोधा जितश्रमाः
Endowed with many auspicious marks, they had conquered anger and fatigue.
पञ्चधारासु शक्षढ्या विनीताश्च प्लवान्विताः
Disciplined in the five gaits and six speeds, they were skilled in leaping.
देवपद्मं देवमणिं देवस्वस्तिकमेव च
They bore divine lotuses, divine jewels, and divine svastikas.
वहन्तो वातजवना वाजिनस्तां समन्वयुः
Those wind-swift horses carried her, bearing those emblems.
