ममानुरूपचरितो भविता तु मम प्रियः
He who acts according to my nature will indeed be dear to me.
उवाच च महादेवीं धर्मार्थसहितं वचः
And he spoke to the great goddess words joined with righteousness and purpose.
नारीपुरुषयोरेवमुद्वाहस्तु चतुर्विधः
The marriage of woman and man is of four kinds in this way.
गन्धर्वोद्वाहिता युक्ता भार्या स्यात्पितृदत्तका
A wife is properly wedded by the Gandharva rite or given by the father.
यदद्वैतं परं ब्रह्म सदसद्भाववर्जितम्
That non-dual supreme Brahman, devoid of being and non-being—
त्वमेवासीच्च तद्ब्रह्म प्रकृतिः सा त्वमेव हि
You alone were that Brahman, and you indeed are that Prakriti.
त्वामेव हि विचिन्वन्ति योगिनः सनकादयः
Indeed, the yogis beginning with Sanaka seek only you.
त्वामेव हि प्रशंसंति पञ्चब्रह्मस्वरूपिणीम्
Indeed, they praise you alone, who are of the nature of the fivefold Brahman.
भजस्व पुरुषं कञ्चिल्लोकानुग्रहकाम्यया
Worship some man for the sake of showing favor to the worlds.
स्रजमुद्यम्य हस्तेन चक्षेप गगनान्तरे
She raised a garland with her hand and cast it into the sky.
पपात कण्ठदेशे हि तदा कामेश्वरस्य तु
Then it fell upon the neck of Kāmeśvara.
ववृषुः पुष्पवर्षाणि मन्दवातेरिता घनाः
Clouds, stirred by a gentle breeze, showered down rains of flowers.
कर्तव्यो विधिनोद्वाहस्त्वनयोः शिवयोर्हरे
The marriage of these two—Śiva and Hari—should be performed according to the rite.
त्वद्रूपा हि महादेवी सहजश्च भवानपि
The great goddess is of your form, and you too are by nature the same.
तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य देवदेवस्त्रिविक्रमः
Hearing those words, the god of gods, Trivikrama—
देवर्षिपितृमुख्यानां सर्वेषां देवयोगिनाम्
All the chief gods, sages, ancestors, and yogins—
उपायनानि प्रददुः सर्वे ब्रह्मादयः सुराः
All the gods beginning with Brahmā offered gifts.
तयोः पुष्पायुधं प्रादादम्लानं हरिरव्ययम्
Among them, Hari gave the undying bow of flowers.
अङ्कुशं च ददौ ताभ्यां विश्वकर्मा विशांपतिः
Viśvakarma, the lord of the artisans, gave them an elephant goad.
नवरत्नमयीं भूषां प्रादाद्रत्नाकरः स्वयम्
The ocean of jewels himself bestowed upon them an ornament made of nine precious gems.
चिन्तामणिमयीं मालां कुबेरः प्रददौ तदा
Kubera then presented a garland fashioned from wish-fulfilling jewels.
गङ्गा च यमुना ताभ्यां चामरे चन्द्रभास्वरे
Gaṅgā and Yamunā gave them two fly-whisks, shining like the moon.
स्वानिस्वान्यायुधान्यस्यै प्रददुः परितोषिताः
Each, pleased, gave her their own distinctive weapons.
ददुर्वज्रोपमाकारान्सायुधान्सपरिच्छदान्
They gave weapons and attendants resembling thunderbolts.
अथाकरोद्विमानं च नाम्ना तु कुसुमाकरम्
Then he constructed a celestial chariot called Kusumākaram.
दिवि भुव्यन्तरिक्षे च कामगं सुसमृद्धिमत्
It could travel at will in heaven, on earth, and in the sky, and was exceedingly splendid.
तत्क्षणादेव नश्यन्ति मनोह्लादकरं शुभम्
At that very moment, things that delight the mind and are auspicious vanish.
चामख्याजनच्छत्रध्वजयष्टिमनोहरम्
With fly-whisks, umbrellas, banners, and staffs, all captivating to behold.
सेव्यमाना सुरगणैर्निर्गत्य नृपमन्दिरात्
Attended by hosts of gods, she departed from the king’s palace.
प्रतिहर्म्याग्रसंस्थाभिरप्सरोभिः सहस्रशः
With thousands of apsarases, arrayed as chief attendants.
