एतद्दृष्ट्वा तु दैत्येन्द्रो विषण्मः स्वपुरं ययौ
Seeing this, the lord of the demons, disheartened, went to his own city.
भयाद्विव्यथिरे देवा विमुक्तसकलक्रियाः
Out of fear, the gods were distressed, abandoning all their rites.
अशक्यः समरे योद्धुमस्माभिरखिलैरपि
He cannot be fought by us in battle, not even by all together.
कुण्डं योजनविस्तारं सम्यक्कृत्वा तु शोभनम्
Making a beautiful altar, a yojana in breadth, properly.
यजामः परमां शाक्तिं महामासैर्वयं सुराः
We, the gods, shall worship the supreme power with great offerings.
एवमुक्तास्तु ते सर्वेदेवाः सेन्द्रपुरोगमाः
Thus addressed, all those gods, led by Indra, acted accordingly.
हुतेषु सर्वमांसेषु पादेषु च करेषु च
When all the flesh was offered, on feet and on hands as well.
प्रादुर्बभूव परमन्तेजः पुञ्जो ह्यनुत्तमः
A supreme, unmatched mass of brilliance appeared.
तन्मध्ये तु महादेवीमुदयार्कसमप्रभाम्
In the midst of that, the great goddess shone with radiance equal to the rising sun.
सौन्दर्यसारसीमां तामानन्दरससागराम्
She was the very limit of beauty, an ocean of the essence of bliss.
सर्वाभरणसंयुक्तां शृङ्गारैकरसालयाम्
Adorned with every ornament, she was the abode of the single essence of love.
पाशाङ्कुशेक्षुकोदण्डपञ्चबाणलसत्कराम्
She held in her hands the noose, goad, sugarcane bow, and five arrows.
प्रणेमुर्मुदितात्मानो भूयोभूयो ऽखिलात्मिकम्
With joyful hearts, again and again, they bowed to the all-pervading one.
तुष्टुवुश्च महादेवीमंबिकामखिलार्थदाम्
They praised the great goddess Ambika, the giver of all blessings.
जय कल्याणनिलये जय कामकलात्मिके
Victory to you, dwelling place of auspiciousness! Victory to you, embodiment of the power of desire!
जयाखिलसुराराध्ये जय कामेशि मानदे
Victory to you, worshipped by all the gods! Victory to you, Lady of Desire, bestower of honor!
जय नारायणि परे नन्दिताशेषविष्टपे
Victory to you, Narayani, supreme one, who delights all the worlds!
जय श्रीविजये देवि विजय श्रीसमृद्धिदे
Victory to you, goddess of glorious triumph! Victory to you, giver of prosperity and fortune!
नमस्तस्यै त्रिजगतां पालयित्र्यै परात्परे
Salutations to her, the protector of the three worlds, the supreme among the supreme!
नमः सहस्रशीर्षायै सहस्रमुखलोचने
Salutations to her with a thousand heads, a thousand mouths and eyes!
अणोरणुतरे देवि महतो ऽपि महीयसि
O goddess, subtler than the subtle, yet greater than the great!
अतलं तु भवेत्पादौ वितलं जानुनी तव
Atala is your feet, Vitala is your knees.
हृदयं तु भुवर्लोकः स्वस्ते मुखमुदाहृतम्
The Bhuvar world is your heart, and Svah is called your mouth.
मरुतस्तु तवोच्छ्वासा वाचस्ते श्रुतयो ऽखिलाः
The winds are your breath, and all the Vedas are your speech.
आहारस्ते सदानन्दो वासस्ते हृदये सताम्
Your nourishment is eternal bliss, and your dwelling is in the hearts of the virtuous.
शिरोरुहा घनास्ते तु तारकाः कुसुमानि ते
Your hair is the clouds, and the stars are your flowers.
यमाश्च नियमाश्चैव करपादरुहास्तथा
The restraints and observances, as well as the fingers and toes, are yours.
प्राणायामस्तु ते नासा रसना ते सरस्वती
Pranayama is your nose, and the tongue is Sarasvati for you.
मनस्ते धारणाशक्तिर्हृदयं ते समाधिकः
Your mind is the power of concentration; your heart is supreme absorption.
भूतं भव्यं भविष्यच्च नित्यं च तव विग्रहः
The past, present, future, and the eternal are your very form.
