Having heard this, Śāṃśapāyani then questioned the Sūta.
Tell us what happened before the interval of Cākṣuṣa, as we ask.
Addressing Śāṃśapāyani, he spoke of the reason for Tryambaka's curse.
Bringing them from their own homes, the father honored them in his house.
The eldest among them, named Satī, became the wife of Tryambaka.
Maheśvara never showed humility toward Dakṣa.
Knowing this, Satī and all the others stayed in their father's house.
The father performed a worship for Satī, excluding her from the others, which was not approved.
Even after performing an inferior worship compared to the younger ones, O Lord, for me—
I am eldest and most distinguished; you ought to honor me.
But my children, though young, are superior and most distinguished, and worthy of worship by you.
They are devoted to Brahman, great ascetics, eminent yogis, and truly righteous.
Vasiṣṭha, Atri, Pulastya, Angiras, Pulaha, and Kratu—
Because Śarva always competes with me and continually disrespects me—
Thus spoke Dakṣa, his mind utterly bewildered.
So addressed, the goddess, angered, spoke these words to her father.
Therefore, father, I abandon this body, your own child.
The goddess spoke these words, having bowed to the Self-born.
Even there, I was not born; I was born from the righteous.
There, seated, she composed her mind in concentration.
Departing from all her limbs, fire reduced her to ashes.
The Lord became angry with Dakṣa and the sages.
I shall always uphold him, by the command of the Supreme Lord.
I uphold them here constantly, by his order.
I will not partake with them; therefore, they will give separately.
All the others are praised, together with their own husbands and children.
In the second cycle, beings will arise in my sacrifice who are not born from a womb.
Having spoken thus about all of them, she again cursed Daksha.
Prācīnabarhiṣa's grandson and son were born from those daughters.
When the era of Vaivasvata arrives, you will be born from the daughter of the Śākhin lineage.
