असुराणां पुरः पात्रं सानिनाय तिरोदधे
He brought the vessel before the asuras and then concealed it.
उद्वेलं केवलं क्रोधं प्राप्ता युद्धचिकीर्षया
Filled with unrestrained anger, they were ready for battle.
दुर्वलैरसुरैः सार्धं समयुद्ध्यन्त सायुधाः
Armed, they fought together with the weak asuras.
दिगन्तान्कतिचिज्जग्मुः पातालं कतिचिद्ययुः
Some went to the ends of the directions, others descended to the underworld.
आत्मीयां श्रियमाजह्रे श्रीकटाक्ष समीक्षितः
Blessed by the glance of Śrī, he regained his own prosperity.
त्रैलोक्यं पालयामास पूर्ववत्पूर्वदेवजित्
He protected the three worlds as before, having conquered the former gods.
यथाकामं चरन्ति स्म सर्वदा हृष्टचेतसः
They always moved as they wished, their minds delighted.
विस्मितः कामचारी तु कैलासं नारदो गतः
The wandering sage Nārada, astonished, went to Kailāsa.
तेन संभाव्यमानो ऽसौ तुष्टो विष्टरमास्त सः
Honored by him, he sat down contentedly at length.
पप्रच्छ पार्वतीजानिः स्वच्छस्फटिकसन्निभः
The son of Pārvatī, shining like pure crystal, questioned him.
कलहप्रिय देवर्षे किं वृत्तं तत्र नाकिनाम्
O sage fond of quarrel, what happened there among the gods?
किं वाप्यमृतवृत्तान्तं विष्णुना वापि किं कृतम्
Or what is the story of the nectar, or what did Viṣṇu do?
उवाच विस्मयाविष्टः प्रसन्नवदनेक्षणः
Overcome with wonder, with a cheerful face, he spoke.
तथापि परिपृष्टेन मया तद्वक्ष्यते ऽधुना
Even so, since you have asked, I will now tell you that.
आदिनारायमः श्रीमान्मोहिनीरूपमादधे
The glorious primordial Nārāyaṇa assumed the form of Mohinī.
सुरासुराः समालोक्य विरताः समरोध्यमात्
Seeing this, the gods and asuras ceased their battle.
कृत्वा तामेव मध्यस्थामर्पयामासुरञ्जसा
He placed that very thing in the center and offered it with great delight.
देवेभ्य एव पीयूषमशेषं विततार सा
She spread the nectar completely for the gods alone.
ज्वलन्मन्युमुखा दैत्या युद्धाय पुनरुत्थिताः
The demons, their faces blazing with anger, rose again for battle.
पराजिता महादैत्या नष्टाः पातालमभ्ययुः
The great demons, defeated, perished and went down to the netherworld.
नारदं प्रेषयित्वाशु तदुक्तं सततं स्मरन्
Having quickly sent Nārada, constantly remembering what was said,
पार्वतीसहितो विष्णुमाजगाम सविस्मयः
He came to Viṣṇu, accompanied by Pārvatī, filled with wonder.
भोगिभोगासनाद्विष्णुः समुत्थाय समागतः
Viṣṇu, rising from his seat upon the coils of the serpent, approached.
तं दृष्ट्वा शीघ्रमागत्य संपूज्यार्घ्यादितो मुदा
Seeing him arrive swiftly, he joyfully honored him with offerings and respect.
तदागमनकार्यं च पृष्टवान्विष्टरश्रवाः
He then asked, in detail, the purpose of his coming.
महायोगेश्वर श्रीमन्सर्वसौभाग्यसुन्दरम्
O glorious Lord of great yoga, embodiment of all auspicious beauty,
यद्रूपं भवतोपात्तं तन्मह्यं संप्रदर्शय
Show me the form you have assumed, O Lord, reveal it to me.
अवश्यं दर्शनीयं मे त्वं हि प्रार्थितकामधृक्
You must certainly be seen by me, for you fulfill the desires of those who seek you.
यद्ध्यानवैभवाल्लब्धं रूपमद्वैतमद्भुतम्
The form obtained through the greatness of meditation, unique and wondrous,
तथास्त्विति तिरो ऽधत्त महायोगेश्वरो हरिः
So be it, said Hari, the great lord of yoga, and concealed himself.
