इष्टानि ये प्रदास्यन्ति पुष्टास्ते यज्ञभाविताः
Those who offer the prescribed gifts, nourished by sacrifice, will be fulfilled.
दरिद्रो नारकश्चैव भवेज्जन्मनि जन्मनि
The poor and the hell-bound are born so, birth after birth.
महदागमने चैव हन्यान्मेध्यान्पशून्द्विजः
At the coming of a great offering, a Brahmin may kill pure animals.
विहितानि तु कार्याणि प्रतिषिद्धानि वर्जयेत्
Prescribed actions should be performed; forbidden ones should be avoided.
ममायमिति देवानां कलहः समजायत
‘This is mine,’ thus arose quarrel among the gods.
विभज्यैकैकशः प्रदाद्ब्रह्मा लोकपितामहः
Brahma, the grandfather of the worlds, divided and gave to each separately.
कुपिताभूत्ततो ब्रह्मा तामुवाच नयान्वितः
Then Brahma, angered, spoke to her with measured words.
प्राञ्जलिः प्रणतस्तुत्वा प्रसीदेति पुनः पुनः
With joined palms, bowing repeatedly, he praised her and begged for her favor.
त्वयैतदखिलं कर्म निर्मितं सुशुभाशुभम्
All these actions, auspicious and inauspicious, have been created by you.
त्वयैव कल्पिता यागा मन्मुखात्तु महाक्रतौ
The sacrifices themselves were devised by you, though performed by me in the great ritual.
ते सर्वे तावकाः संतुभूतानामपि तृप्तये
All those belong to you, and are for the satisfaction of the beings.
तदुक्तेनैव विधिना चकार च महाक्रतून्
He performed the great sacrifices according to the prescribed method spoken by you.
तत्तद्विभागो वेदेषु प्रोक्तत्वादिह नोदितः

आपत्सु ब्राह्मणो वापि भक्षयेद्गुर्वनुज्ञया
In times of distress, even a Brahmin may eat, with the teacher’s permission.
उद्बुध्यस्व पशो त्वं हि नाशिवः सञ्छिवो ह्यसि
Awaken, O animal, for you are not unholy; you are indeed auspicious.
यतो विश्वाधिको रुद्रस्तेन रुद्रो ऽसि वै पशो
Because Rudra surpasses all, you are Rudra, O animal.
आत्मार्थं वा परार्थं वा हत्वा दोषैर्न लिप्यते
Whether for oneself or for another, one is not tainted by faults in killing.
मनःसंकल्पसिद्धानां महतां शिववर्चसाम्
For those great ones, accomplished by the power of mental resolve and possessing Shiva’s radiance,
जपहोमार्चनाद्यैस्तु तेषामिष्टं च सिध्यति
Through recitation, offering, worship, and similar acts, their desired results are attained.
स्तेयस्य लक्षणं किं वा तन्मे विस्तरतो वद

एतस्मादधिकं पापं विश्वस्ते शरणं गते

स्तेयादधःक्रमेणैव दशोत्तरगुणं त्वघम्
For theft, according to the order of severity, the sin increases tenfold.
दशोत्तरगुणैः पापैर्लिप्यते धनहारकः
The one who steals wealth is stained by sins multiplied tenfold.
रहस्यातिरहस्यं च सर्वपापप्रणाशनम्
This is a secret, most secret, and destroys all sins.
सर्वे नीरोगिणो दान्ताः सुखिनो दययाञ्चिताः
All are free from disease, self-controlled, happy, and endowed with compassion.
स्तोकास्तोकक्रमेणैव बहुद्रव्यमपाहरत्
By taking much wealth, little by little, in succession,
