सुरामांसोपहारैस् तु भक्ष्यभोज्यैश् च पूजिता नृणाम् अशेषकामांस् त्वं प्रसन्नायां प्रदास्यसि
When worshipped with offerings of liquor, meat, and various foods and delicacies, you will grant all desires to people, if you are pleased.
ते सर्वे सर्वदा भद्रा मत्प्रसादाद् असंशयम् असंदिग्धं भविष्यन्ति गच्छ देवि यथोदितम्
By my grace, all of them will always be blessed, without doubt or hesitation. Go, O goddess, as has been declared.
यथोक्तं सा जगद्धात्री देवदेवेन वै पुरा षड्गर्भगर्भविन्यासं चक्रे चान्यस्य कर्षणम्
As previously described, the Mother of the Universe, at the command of the Lord of gods, arranged the placement of the six embryos and drew away another's embryo.
सप्तमे रोहिणीं प्राप्ते गर्भे गर्भे ततो हरिः लोकत्रयोपकाराय देवक्याः प्रविवेश वै
When the seventh month under the star Rohiṇī arrived, Hari entered the womb of Devakī for the benefit of the three worlds.
योगनिद्रा यशोदायास् तस्मिन्न् एव ततो दिने संभूता जठरे तद्वद् यथोक्तं परमेष्ठिना
On that very day, Yoga-nidrā entered the womb of Yaśodā, just as the Supreme Lord had instructed.
ततो ग्रहगणः सम्यक् प्रचचार दिवि द्विजाः विष्णोर् अंशे महीं यात ऋतवो ऽप्य् अभवञ् शुभाः
Then, O twice-born, the planets moved auspiciously in the sky; portions of Viṣṇu descended to earth, and the seasons became favorable.
नोत्सेहे देवकीं द्रष्टुं कश्चिद् अप्य् अतितेजसा जाज्वल्यमानां तां दृष्ट्वा मनांसि क्षोभम् आययुः
No one, due to her intense radiance, was able to look upon Devakī; seeing her shining, their minds became disturbed.
अदृष्टां पुरुषैः स्त्रीभिर् देवकीं देवतागणाः बिभ्राणां वपुषा विष्णुं तुष्टुवुस् ताम् अहर्निशम्
Unseen by men and women, the hosts of gods praised Devakī, who bore Viṣṇu in her form, day and night.
त्वं स्वाहा त्वं स्वधा विद्या सुधा त्वं ज्योतिर् एव च त्वं सर्वलोकरक्षार्थम् अवतीर्णा महीतले
You are Svāhā, you are Svadhā, you are knowledge, you are nectar, you are indeed light; you have descended to earth for the protection of all worlds.
प्रसीद देवि सर्वस्य जगतस् त्वं शुभं कुरु प्रीत्यर्थं धारयेशानं धृतं येनाखिलं जगत्
Be gracious, O goddess; bring auspiciousness to the whole world. For the sake of love, you bear the Lord, by whom the entire universe is sustained.
एवं संस्तूयमाना सा देवैर् देवम् अधारयत् गर्भेण पुण्डरीकाक्षं जगतां त्राणकारणम्
Thus praised by the gods, she bore in her womb the lotus-eyed Lord, the cause of the world's deliverance.
ततो ऽखिलजगत्पद्मबोधायाच्युतभानुना देवक्याः पूर्वसंध्यायाम् आविर्भूतं महात्मना
Then, at dawn, for the awakening of the lotus of the universe, the great-souled Acyuta appeared to Devakī.
मध्यरात्रे ऽखिलाधारे जायमाने जनार्दने मन्दं जगर्जुर् जलदाः पुष्पवृष्टिमुचः सुराः
At midnight, when Janārdana, the support of all, was being born, the clouds rumbled softly and the gods showered flowers.
फुल्लेन्दीवरपत्त्राभं चतुर्बाहुम् उदीक्ष्य तम् श्रीवत्सवक्षसं जातं तुष्टावानकदुन्दुभिः
Seeing him, four-armed, resembling the petals of a blooming blue lotus, with the mark of Śrīvatsa on his chest, Vasudeva rejoiced at his birth.
अभिष्टूय च तं वाग्भिः प्रसन्नाभिर् महामतिः विज्ञापयाम् आस तदा कंसाद् भीतो द्विजोत्तमाः
Having praised him with pleasing words, the wise Vasudeva, fearful of Kaṃsa, then made his request, O best of the twice-born.
ज्ञातो ऽसि देवदेवेश शङ्खचक्रगदाधर दिव्यं रूपम् इदं देव प्रसादेनोपसंहर
You are known, O Lord of gods, wielder of conch, discus, and mace. Withdraw this divine form, O god, by your grace.
अद्यैव देव कंसो ऽयं कुरुते मम यातनाम् अवतीर्णम् इति ज्ञात्वा त्वाम् अस्मिन् मन्दिरे मम
Today itself, O god, Kaṃsa will torment me, knowing you have descended in this temple of mine.
यो ऽनन्तरूपो ऽखिलविश्वरूपो गर्भे ऽपि लोकान् वपुषा बिभर्ति प्रसीदताम् एष स देवदेवः स्वमाययाविष्कृतबालरूपः
He who is of infinite forms, who embodies the entire universe, who, even in the womb, upholds the worlds with his form—may that Lord of gods, who reveals the form of a child by his own power, be gracious.
उपसंहर सर्वात्मन् रूपम् एतच् चतुर्भुजम् जानातु मावतारं ते कंसो ऽयं दितिजान्तक
Withdraw this four-armed form, O all-pervading one, so that Kaṃsa, the destroyer of the Daityas, will not know of your descent.
स्तुतो ऽहं यत् त्वया पूर्वं पुत्रार्थिन्या तद् अद्य ते सफलं देवि संजातं जातो ऽहं यत् तवोदरात्
That which you previously praised me for, desiring a son, O goddess, has today borne fruit; I have been born from your womb.
इत्य् उक्त्वा भगवांस् तूष्णीं बभूव मुनिसत्तमाः वसुदेवो ऽपि तं रात्राव् आदाय प्रययौ बहिः
Having spoken thus, the Blessed Lord became silent, O best of sages. Vasudeva then, in the night, took him and went outside.
मोहिताश् चाभवंस् तत्र रक्षिणो योगनिद्रया मथुराद्वारपालाश् च व्रजत्य् आनकदुन्दुभौ
There, the guards were deluded by Yogamāyā's sleep, and the gatekeepers of Mathurā too, as Ānakadundubhi departed.
वर्षतां जलदानां च तत् तोयम् उल्बणं निशि संछाद्य तं ययौ शेषः फणैर् आनकदुन्दुभिम्
As the clouds poured heavy rain that night, Śeṣa covered Ānakadundubhi with his hoods and went forth.
यमुनां चातिगम्भीरां नानावर्तशताकुलाम् वसुदेवो वहन् विष्णुं जानुमात्रवहां ययौ
Vasudeva, carrying Viṣṇu, crossed the Yamunā, which was exceedingly deep and filled with hundreds of swirling currents, its water reaching up to his knees.
कंसस्य करम् आदाय तत्रैवाभ्यागतांस् तटे नन्दादीन् गोपवृद्धांश् च यमुनायां ददर्श सः
There on the bank, he saw Nanda and the elder cowherds, who had come to pay tribute to Kaṃsa.
तस्मिन् काले यशोदापि मोहिता योगनिद्रया ताम् एव कन्यां मुनयः प्रासूत मोहिते जने
At that time, Yaśodā too was overcome by Yogamāyā's sleep, and as the people were deluded, she gave birth to that very girl, O sages.
वसुदेवो ऽपि विन्यस्य बालम् आदाय दारिकाम् यशोदाशयने तूर्णम् आजगामामितद्युतिः
Vasudeva, of immeasurable splendor, quickly placed the boy on Yaśodā's bed and took the girl.
ददर्श च विबुद्ध्वा सा यशोदा जातम् आत्मजम् नीलोत्पलदलश्यामं ततो ऽत्यर्थं मुदं ययौ
When Yaśodā awoke, she saw her newborn son, dark as a blue lotus petal, and was filled with great joy.
आदाय वसुदेवो ऽपि दारिकां निजमन्दिरम् देवकीशयने न्यस्य यथापूर्वम् अतिष्ठत
Vasudeva then brought the girl to his own house and placed her on Devakī's bed, remaining as before.
ततो बालध्वनिं श्रुत्वा रक्षिणः सहसोत्थिताः कंसम् आवेदयाम् आसुर् देवकीप्रसवं द्विजाः
Hearing the cry of the child, the guards immediately arose and informed Kaṃsa, O twice-born, of Devakī's delivery.
