अदृश्याय ततस् ते ऽपि प्रणिपत्य महात्मने मेरुपृष्ठं सुरा जग्मुर् अवतेरुश् च भूतले
Then, they too, bowing to the great-souled one who had become invisible, went to the summit of Meru and descended to the earth.
कंसाय चाष्टमो गर्भो देवक्या धरणीतले भविष्यतीत्य् आचचक्षे भगवान् नारदो मुनिः
The eighth embryo of Devakī will be born on earth for Kaṃsa—so declared the blessed sage Nārada.
कंसो ऽपि तद् उपश्रुत्य नारदात् कुपितस् ततः देवकीं वसुदेवं च गृहे गुप्ताव् अधारयत्
Kamsa, having heard this from Narada, became enraged and confined Devaki and Vasudeva in his house under strict guard.
जातं जातं च कंसाय तेनैवोक्तं यथा पुरा तथैव वसुदेवो ऽपि पुत्रम् अर्पितवान् द्विजाः
And just as before, whenever a child was born, Vasudeva would give the newborn to Kamsa, O twice-born ones.
हिरण्यकशिपोः पुत्राः षड्गर्भा इति विश्रुताः विष्णुप्रयुक्ता तान् निद्रा क्रमाद् गर्भे न्ययोजयत्
The six sons of Hiranyakashipu, renowned as the Six Embryos, were placed, by the will of Vishnu, into the womb through the agency of Nidra, one after another.
योगनिद्रा महामाया वैष्णवी मोहितं यया अविद्यया जगत् सर्वं ताम् आह भगवान् हरिः
Yoganidra, the great enchantress, the Vaishnavi power by whom the entire world is deluded through ignorance, was addressed by the Blessed Hari.
गच्छ निद्रे ममादेशात् पातालतलसंश्रयान् एकैकश्येन षड्गर्भान् देवकीजठरे नय
Go, O Nidra, at my command, and one by one transfer the Six Embryos, who dwell in the netherworld, into the womb of Devaki.
हतेषु तेषु कंसेन शेषाख्यो ऽंशस् ततो ऽनघः अंशांशेनोदरे तस्याः सप्तमः संभविष्यति
When those are slain by Kamsa, then the sinless one known as Shesha, by a portion of himself, will become the seventh in her womb.
गोकुले वसुदेवस्य भार्या वै रोहिणी स्थिता तस्याः प्रसूतिसमये गर्भो नेयस् त्वयोदरम्
In Gokula, Rohini, the wife of Vasudeva, resides; at the time of her delivery, you must transfer the embryo into her womb.
सप्तमो भोजराजस्य भयाद् रोधोपरोधतः देवक्याः पतितो गर्भ इति लोको वदिष्यति
Because of the fear of the king of the Bhojas and due to obstruction and restraint, people will say that Devaki's seventh embryo has fallen.
गर्भसंकर्षणात् सो ऽथ लोके संकर्षणेति वै संज्ञाम् अवाप्स्यते वीरः श्वेताद्रिशिखरोपमः
Because of the drawing out of the embryo, he will be known in the world as Sankarshana, the hero, resplendent like the peak of the white mountain.
ततो ऽहं संभविष्यामि देवकीजठरे शुभे गर्भे त्वया यशोदाया गन्तव्यम् अविलम्बितम्
Then I shall be born in the auspicious womb of Devaki; you must go without delay to Yashoda.
प्रावृट्काले च नभसि कृष्णाष्टम्याम् अहं निशि उत्पत्स्यामि नवम्यां च प्रसूतिं त्वम् अवाप्स्यसि
In the rainy season, on the eighth day of the dark fortnight, at night, I shall be born; and on the ninth day, you will give birth.
यशोदाशयने मां तु देवक्यास् त्वाम् अनिन्दिते मच्छक्तिप्रेरितमतिर् वसुदेवो नयिष्यति
On Yashoda's bed, I shall be placed, and you, O blameless one, by the will of my power, Vasudeva will carry you from Devaki.
कंसश् च त्वाम् उपादाय देवि शैलशिलातले प्रक्षेप्स्यत्य् अन्तरिक्षे च त्वं स्थानं समवाप्स्यसि
Kamsa will seize you, O goddess, and hurl you upon the rocky summit of a mountain, but in the sky you will attain your place.
ततस् त्वां शतधा शक्रः प्रणम्य मम गौरवात् प्रणिपातानतशिरा भगिनीत्वे ग्रहीष्यति
Then Indra, bowing with his head lowered in reverence out of respect for me, will receive you as his sister after you have been divided into a hundred parts.
ततः शुम्भनिशुम्भादीन् हत्वा दैत्यान् सहस्रशः स्थानैर् अनेकैः पृथिवीम् अशेषां मण्डयिष्यसि
After slaying Shumbha, Nishumbha, and thousands of other demons, you will adorn the entire earth with many abodes.
त्वं भूतिः संनतिः कीर्तिः कान्तिर् वै पृथिवी धृतिः लज्जा पुष्टिर् उषा या च काचिद् अन्या त्वम् एव सा
You are prosperity, humility, fame, beauty, the earth, fortitude, modesty, nourishment, dawn, and whatever else exists—you are indeed all these.
ये त्वाम् आर्येति दुर्गेति वेदगर्भे ऽम्बिकेति च भद्रेति भद्रकालीति क्षेम्या क्षेमंकरीति च
Those who call you Arya, Durga, Ambika in the Vedas, Bhadra, Bhadrakali, Kshemya, or Kshemankari—
प्रातश् चैवापराह्णे च स्तोष्यन्त्य् आनम्रमूर्तयः तेषां हि वाञ्छितं सर्वं मत्प्रसादाद् भविष्यति
Morning and afternoon, those of humble form will praise you; by my grace, all their desires will be fulfilled.
सुरामांसोपहारैस् तु भक्ष्यभोज्यैश् च पूजिता नृणाम् अशेषकामांस् त्वं प्रसन्नायां प्रदास्यसि
When worshipped with offerings of liquor, meat, and various foods and delicacies, you will grant all desires to people, if you are pleased.
ते सर्वे सर्वदा भद्रा मत्प्रसादाद् असंशयम् असंदिग्धं भविष्यन्ति गच्छ देवि यथोदितम्
By my grace, all of them will always be blessed, without doubt or hesitation. Go, O goddess, as has been declared.
यथोक्तं सा जगद्धात्री देवदेवेन वै पुरा षड्गर्भगर्भविन्यासं चक्रे चान्यस्य कर्षणम्
As previously described, the Mother of the Universe, at the command of the Lord of gods, arranged the placement of the six embryos and drew away another's embryo.
सप्तमे रोहिणीं प्राप्ते गर्भे गर्भे ततो हरिः लोकत्रयोपकाराय देवक्याः प्रविवेश वै
When the seventh month under the star Rohiṇī arrived, Hari entered the womb of Devakī for the benefit of the three worlds.
योगनिद्रा यशोदायास् तस्मिन्न् एव ततो दिने संभूता जठरे तद्वद् यथोक्तं परमेष्ठिना
On that very day, Yoga-nidrā entered the womb of Yaśodā, just as the Supreme Lord had instructed.
ततो ग्रहगणः सम्यक् प्रचचार दिवि द्विजाः विष्णोर् अंशे महीं यात ऋतवो ऽप्य् अभवञ् शुभाः
Then, O twice-born, the planets moved auspiciously in the sky; portions of Viṣṇu descended to earth, and the seasons became favorable.
नोत्सेहे देवकीं द्रष्टुं कश्चिद् अप्य् अतितेजसा जाज्वल्यमानां तां दृष्ट्वा मनांसि क्षोभम् आययुः
No one, due to her intense radiance, was able to look upon Devakī; seeing her shining, their minds became disturbed.
अदृष्टां पुरुषैः स्त्रीभिर् देवकीं देवतागणाः बिभ्राणां वपुषा विष्णुं तुष्टुवुस् ताम् अहर्निशम्
Unseen by men and women, the hosts of gods praised Devakī, who bore Viṣṇu in her form, day and night.
त्वं स्वाहा त्वं स्वधा विद्या सुधा त्वं ज्योतिर् एव च त्वं सर्वलोकरक्षार्थम् अवतीर्णा महीतले
You are Svāhā, you are Svadhā, you are knowledge, you are nectar, you are indeed light; you have descended to earth for the protection of all worlds.
प्रसीद देवि सर्वस्य जगतस् त्वं शुभं कुरु प्रीत्यर्थं धारयेशानं धृतं येनाखिलं जगत्
Be gracious, O goddess; bring auspiciousness to the whole world. For the sake of love, you bear the Lord, by whom the entire universe is sustained.
