चतुरङ्गस्य पुत्रस् तु पृथुलाक्ष इति स्मृतः पृथुलाक्षसुतो राजा चम्पो नाम महायशाः
Caturaṅga's son was called Pṛthulākṣa; Pṛthulākṣa's son was the renowned king named Campo.
चम्पस्य तु पुरी चम्पा या मालिन्य् अभवत् पुरा पूर्णभद्रप्रसादेन हर्यङ्गो ऽस्य सुतो ऽभवत्
Campo's city was Campā, which was formerly Mālinī; by the grace of Pūrnabhadra, his son was Haryaṅga.
ततो वैभाण्डकिस् तस्य वारणं शक्रवारणम् अवतारयाम् आस महीं मन्त्रैर् वाहनम् उत्तमम्
Then Vaibhāṇḍaki brought down for him the mighty elephant Vāraṇa, Indra's elephant, onto the earth by means of mantras, as an excellent vehicle.
हर्यङ्गस्य सुतस् तत्र राजा भद्ररथः स्मृतः पुत्रो भद्ररथस्यासीद् बृहत्कर्मा प्रजेश्वरः
Haryaṅga's son was the king Bhadraratha; Bhadraratha's son was Bṛhatkarmā, lord of the people.
बृहद्दर्भः सुतस् तस्य यस्माज् जज्ञे बृहन्मनाः बृहन्मनास् तु राजेन्द्रो जनयाम् आस वै सुतम्
His son was Bṛhaddarbha, from whom Bṛhanmanā was born; Bṛhanmanā, the king, indeed begot a son.
नाम्ना जयद्रथं नाम यस्माद् दृढरथो नृपः आसीद् दृढरथस्यापि विश्वजिज् जनमेजयी
His son was named Jayadratha; from him came the king Dṛḍharatha, and from Dṛḍharatha, Viśvajit and Janamejaya.
दायादस् तस्य वैकर्णो विकर्णस् तस्य चात्मजः तस्य पुत्रशतं त्व् आसीद् अङ्गानां कुलवर्धनम्
His heir was Vaikarṇa, and Vaikarṇa's son was Vikarṇa; he had a hundred sons, who increased the lineage of the Aṅgas.
एते ऽङ्गवंशजाः सर्वे राजानः कीर्तिता मया सत्यव्रता महात्मानः प्रजावन्तो महारथाः
All these kings born in the Aṅga lineage have been recounted by me; they were great-souled, truthful, prolific, and mighty chariot-warriors.
ऋचेयोस् तु मुनिश्रेष्ठा रौद्राश्वतनयस्य वै शृणुध्वं संप्रवक्ष्यामि वंशं राज्ञस् तु भो द्विजाः
Now, O twice-born, listen as I narrate the lineage of King Ṛceya, the foremost sage, son of Raudrāśva.
ऋचेयोस् तनयो राजा मतिनारो महीपतिः मतिनारसुतास् त्व् आसंस् त्रयः परमधार्मिकाः
Ṛceya's son was King Matināra, ruler of the earth; Matināra had three sons, all supremely righteous.
वसुरोधः प्रतिरथः सुबाहुश् चैव धार्मिकः सर्वे वेदविदश् चैव ब्रह्मण्याः सत्यवादिनः
They were Vasurodha, Pratiratha, and Subāhu, all virtuous, learned in the Vedas, devoted to Brahman, and speakers of truth.
इला नाम तु यस्यासीत् कन्या वै मुनिसत्तमाः ब्रह्मवादिन्य् अधिस्त्री सा तंसुस् ताम् अभ्यगच्छत
Matināra had a daughter named Ilā, O eminent sages; she was a learned woman, devoted to Brahman, and Tāṃsu approached her.
तंसोः सुतो ऽथ राजर्षिर् धर्मनेत्रः प्रतापवान् ब्रह्मवादी पराक्रान्तस् तस्य भार्योपदानवी
Tāṃsu's son was the royal sage Dharmanetra, powerful and devoted to Brahman, heroic; his wife was Upadānavī.
उपदानवी ततः पुत्रांश् चतुरो ऽजनयच् छुबान् दुष्यन्तम् अथ सुष्मन्तं प्रवीरम् अनघं तथा
Upadānavī then bore four virtuous sons: Duṣyanta, Suṣmanta, Pravīra, and Anagha.
दुष्यन्तस्य तु दायादो भरतो नाम वीर्यवान् स सर्वदमनो नाम नागायुतबलो महान्
The heir of Duṣyanta was Bharata, renowned for his strength; he was called Sarvadamana, mighty as a host of elephants.
चक्रवर्ती सुतो जज्ञे दुष्यन्तस्य महात्मनः शकुन्तलायां भरतो यस्य नाम्ना तु भारताः
A universal emperor was born to the noble Duṣyanta and Śakuntalā, and from his name, the people are called Bhāratas.
भरतस्य विनष्टेषु तनयेषु महीपतेः मातॄणां तु प्रकोपेण मया तत् कथितं पुरा
When the sons of King Bharata perished, as I have previously recounted, it was due to the wrath of their mothers.
बृहस्पतेर् अङ्गिरसः पुत्रो विप्रो महामुनिः अयाजयद् भरद्वाजो महद्भिः क्रतुभिर् विभुः
Bṛhaspati, son of Aṅgiras, a great sage among the Brāhmaṇas, caused Bharadvāja to perform grand sacrifices.
पूर्वं तु वितथे तस्य कृते वै पुत्रजन्मनि ततो ऽथ वितथो नाम भरद्वाजात् सुतो ऽभवत्
Earlier, for the sake of begetting a son for him, Vitatha was born; thus, Vitatha became the son of Bharadvāja.
ततो ऽथ वितथे जाते भरतस् तु दिवं ययौ वितथं चाभिषिच्याथ भरद्वाजो वनं ययौ
After Vitatha was born, Bharata ascended to heaven; Bharadvāja consecrated Vitatha, then departed for the forest.
स चापि वितथः पुत्राञ् जनयाम् आस पञ्च वै सुहोत्रं च सुहोतारं गयं गर्गं तथैव च
Vitatha fathered five sons: Suhotra, Suhotāra, Gaya, Garga, and also Kapila, the great-souled.
कपिलं च महात्मानं सुहोत्रस्य सुतद्वयम् काशिकं च महासत्यं तथा गृत्समतिं नृपम्
Kapila, the great-souled, had two sons; Suhotra's sons were Kāśika, famed for truth, and Gṛtsamati, the king.
तथा गृत्समतेः पुत्रा ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रिया विशः काशिकस्य तु काशेयः पुत्रो दीर्घतपास् तथा
From Gṛtsamati came sons who were Brāhmaṇas, Kṣatriyas, and Vaiśyas; Kāśika's son was Kāśeya, and Dīrghatapas likewise.
बभूव दीर्घतपसो विद्वान् धन्वन्तरिः सुतः धन्वन्तरेस् तु तनयः केतुमान् इति विश्रुतः
From Dīrghatapas was born the learned Dhanvantari; Dhanvantari's son was Ketumān, renowned by name.
तथा केतुमतः पुत्रो विद्वान् भीमरथः स्मृतः पुत्रो भीमरथस्यापि वाराणस्यधिपो ऽभवत्
Ketumān's son was the wise Bhīmaratha; Bhīmaratha's son became the ruler of Vārāṇasī.
दिवोदास इति ख्यातः सर्वक्षत्रप्रणाशनः दिवोदासस्य पुत्रस् तु वीरो राजा प्रतर्दनः
He was known as Divodāsa, destroyer of all Kṣatriyas; Divodāsa's son was the valiant king Pratardana.
प्रतर्दनस्य पुत्रौ द्वौ वत्सो भार्गव एव च अलर्को राजपुत्रस् तु राजा सन्मतिमान् भुवि
Pratardana had two sons: Vatsa, of the Bhārgava lineage, and Alarka, a royal prince, a king esteemed in the world.
हैहयस्य तु दायाद्यं हृतवान् वै महीपतिः आजह्रे पितृदायाद्यं दिवोदासहृतं बलात्
The king seized the inheritance of Haihaya; he forcibly reclaimed his ancestral domain, which Divodāsa had taken.
भद्रश्रेण्यस्य पुत्रेण दुर्दमेन महात्मना दिवोदासेन बालेति घृणयासौ विसर्जितः
By the noble Durdamana, son of Bhadraśreṇya, Divodāsa was released out of compassion, though he was called Bāla.
अष्टारथो नाम नृपः सुतो भीमरथस्य वै तेन पुत्रेण बालस्य प्रहृतं तस्य भो द्विजाः
Aṣṭāratha, son of Bhīmaratha, was a king; by his son, Bāla, the possessions were taken, O Brāhmaṇas.
