अहो नो विस्मयो जातः श्रुत्वेदं परमामृतम् अनन्तवासुदेवस्य संभवं भुवि दुर्लभम्
Ah, what wonder has arisen for us, having heard this supreme nectar—the rare appearance of Ananta Vāsudeva on earth.
श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे देव विस्तरेण यथातथम् तस्य देवस्य माहात्म्यं वक्तुम् अर्हस्य् अशेषतः
We wish to hear, O Lord, in detail and truth, the greatness of that deity; you ought to speak of it fully.
तदा स राक्षसः क्रूरो देवगन्धर्वकिंनरान् लोकपालान् समनुजान् मुनिसिद्धांश् च पापकृत्
Then that cruel Rākṣasa conquered the gods, Gandharvas, Kinnaras, guardians of the worlds, sages, and Siddhas who committed sin.
विजित्य समरे सर्वान् आजहार तदङ्गनाः संस्थाप्य नगरीं लङ्कां पुनः सीतार्थमोहितः
Having defeated all in battle, he brought their women, established the city of Laṅkā anew, and was again deluded for the sake of Sītā.
शङ्कितो मृगरूपेण सौवर्णेन च रावणः ततः क्रुद्धेन रामेण रणे सौमित्रिणा सह
Rāvaṇa, suspicious, took the form of a golden deer; then, enraged, Rāma fought him together with Saumitri.
रावणस्य वधार्थाय हत्वा वालिं मनोजवम् अभिषिक्तश् च सुग्रीवो युवराजो ऽङ्गदस् तथा
For the purpose of slaying Rāvaṇa, having killed Vāli, swift as thought, Sugrīva was anointed king, and Aṅgada as crown prince.
हनुमान् नलनीलश् च जाम्बवान् पनसस् तथा गवयश् च गवाक्षश् च पाठीनः परमौजसः
Hanuman, Nala, Nila, Jambavan, Panasa, as well as Gavaya, Gavaksha, and Pathina of great might—
एतैश् चान्यैश् च बहुभिर् वानरैः समहाबलैः समावृतो महाघोरै रामो राजीवलोचनः
Surrounded by these and many other powerful and fearsome monkeys, Rama, lotus-eyed, was accompanied.
गिरीणां सर्वसंघातैः सेतुं बद्ध्वा महोदधौ बलेन महता रामः समुत्तीर्य महोदधिम्
With the combined strength of all the mountains, Rama built a bridge across the great ocean and crossed over it with his mighty force.
संग्रामम् अतुलं चक्रे रक्षोगणसमन्वितः यमहस्तं प्रहस्तं च निकुम्भं कुम्भम् एव च
He engaged in an incomparable battle, surrounded by hosts of demons—Yamahasta, Prahasta, Nikumbha, and Kumbha as well.
नरान्तकं महावीर्यं तथा चैव यमान्तकम् मालाढ्यं मालिकाढ्यं च हत्वा रामस् तु वीर्यवान्
Rama, the valiant, slew Narantaka of great valor, as well as Yamantaka, Malaadhya, and Malikaadhya.
पुनर् इन्द्रजितं हत्वा कुम्भकर्णं सरावणम् वैदेहीं चाग्निनाशोध्य दत्त्वा राज्यं विभीषणे
Then, having slain Indrajit, Kumbhakarna, and Ravana, and having tested Sita in fire, he bestowed the kingdom upon Vibhishana.
वासुदेवं समादाय यानं पुष्पकम् आरुहत् लीलया समनुप्रापद् अयोध्यां पूर्वपालिताम्
Taking Vasudeva with him, he ascended the Pushpaka chariot and, with ease, reached Ayodhya, the city formerly ruled.
कनिष्ठं भरतं स्नेहाच् छत्रुघ्नं भक्तवत्सलः अभिषिच्य तदा रामः सर्वराज्ये ऽधिराजवत्
Out of affection, Rama, devoted to his younger brother, installed Bharata and Shatrughna as rulers over all the kingdoms, like a sovereign of kings.
पुरातनीं स्वमूर्तिं च समाराध्य ततो हरिः दश वर्षसहस्राणि दश वर्षशतानि च
Then Hari, having worshipped his ancient form, for ten thousand and ten hundred years,
भुक्त्वा सागरपर्यन्तां मेदिनीं स तु राघवः राज्यम् आसाद्य सुगतिं वैष्णवं पदम् आविशत्
Having enjoyed the earth bounded by the ocean, that descendant of Raghu, upon attaining the kingdom, entered the supreme Vaishnava state.
तां चापि प्रतिमां रामः समुद्रेशाय दत्तवान् धन्यो रक्षयितासि त्वं तोयरत्नसमन्वितः
And Rama gave that very image to the lord of the ocean, saying, 'Blessed one, you shall protect it, endowed with the jewels of the waters.'
द्वापरं युगम् आसाद्य यदा देवो जगत्पतिः धरण्याश् चानुरोधेन भावशैथिल्यकारणात्
When the god, lord of the world, entered the Dvapara age, at the request of the earth and due to the decline of righteousness,
अवतीर्णः स भगवान् वसुदेवकुले प्रभुः कंसादीनां वधार्थाय संकर्षणसहायवान्
That blessed Lord descended in the house of Vasudeva, accompanied by Sankarshana, for the destruction of Kamsa and others.
तदा तां प्रतिमां विप्राः सर्ववाञ्छाफलप्रदाम् सर्वलोकहितार्थाय कस्यचित् कारणान्तरे
At that time, O Brahmins, for the benefit of all worlds and to grant all desires, that image was, for another reason, set aside.
तस्मिन् क्षेत्रवरे पुण्ये दुर्लभे पुरुषोत्तमे उज्जहार स्वयं तोयात् समुद्रः सरितां पतिः
In that excellent, sacred, and rare field of Purushottama, the ocean, lord of rivers, himself raised it from the waters.
तदा प्रभृति तत्रैव क्षेत्रे मुक्तिप्रदे द्विजाः आस्ते स देवो देवानां सर्वकामफलप्रदः
From that time onward, in that very field granting liberation, the god abides, bestower of all desired fruits to the gods.
ये संश्रयन्ति चानन्तं भक्त्या सर्वेश्वरं प्रभुम् वाङ्मनःकर्मभिर् नित्यं ते यान्ति परमं पदम्
Those who take refuge in Ananta, the Lord of all, with devotion—by word, mind, and deed—always attain the supreme state.
दृष्ट्वानन्तं सकृद् भक्त्या संपूज्य प्रणिपत्य च राजसूयाश्वमेधाभ्यां फलं दशगुणं लभेत्
Seeing Ananta even once with devotion, worshipping and bowing down, one obtains ten times the fruit of a Rajasuya or Ashvamedha sacrifice.
सर्वकामसमृद्धेन कामगेन सुवर्चसा विमानेनार्कवर्णेन किङ्किणीजालमालिना
In a celestial chariot, radiant as the sun, adorned with a network of tinkling bells, endowed with every desired pleasure and shining with the brilliance of fulfillment of wishes—
त्रिःसप्तकुलम् उद्धृत्य दिव्यस्त्रीगणसेवितः उपगीयमानो गन्धर्वैर् नरो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत्
Having uplifted twenty-one generations of his lineage, served by groups of divine women, and praised by Gandharvas, a man attains the city of Vishnu.
तत्र भुक्त्वा वरान् भोगाञ् जरामरणवर्जितः दिव्यरूपधरः श्रीमान् यावद् आभूतसंप्लवम्
There, enjoying excellent pleasures, free from old age and death, possessing a divine and splendid form, he remains until the dissolution of creation.
पुण्यक्षयाद् इहायातश् चतुर्वेदी द्विजोत्तमः वैष्णवं योगम् आस्थाय ततो मोक्षम् अवाप्नुयात्
When his merit is exhausted, returning here, the best of twice-born who knows the four Vedas, by taking up Vaishnava yoga, then attains liberation.
एवं मया त्व् अनन्तो ऽसौ कीर्तितो मुनिसत्तमाः कः शक्नोति गुणान् वक्तुं तस्य वर्षशतैर् अपि
Thus have I described to you his endless greatness, O best of sages; who could recount his virtues even in a hundred years?
एवं वो ऽनन्तमाहात्म्यं क्षेत्रं च पुरुषोत्तमम् भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं नॄणां मया प्रोक्तं सुदुर्लभम्
Thus I have told you of the boundless glory of this supreme field, which grants enjoyment and liberation to people, and is extremely rare.
