तपसा चैव महता जाता वृद्धस्य चात्मजाः नृगायास् तु नृगः पुत्रः कृम्यां कृमिर् अजायत
By great austerity, the sons of Vṛddha were born; Nṛga was the son of Nṛgā, and Kṛmi was born from Kṛmi.
नवायास् तु नवः पुत्रो दर्वायाः सुव्रतो ऽभवत् दृषद्वत्यास् तु संजज्ञे शिबिर् औशीनरो नृपः
Nava was the son of Navā, Suvrata was born from Darvā, and from Dṛṣadvatī came Śibi, the king of the Uśīnaras.
शिबेस् तु शिबयो विप्रा यौधेयास् तु नृगस्य ह नवस्य नवराष्ट्रं तु कृमेस् तु कृमिला पुरी
Śibi's descendants were the Śibayas, O sages; from Nṛga came the Yaudheyas, Nava founded Navarāṣṭra, and Kṛmi established the city of Kṛmilā.
सुव्रतस्य तथाम्बष्ठाः शिबिपुत्रान् निबोधत शिबेस् तु शिबयः पुत्राश् चत्वारो लोकविश्रुताः
From Suvrata came the Ambaṣṭhas; listen to the sons of Śibi: Śibi had four sons renowned throughout the world.
वृषदर्भः सुवीरश् च केकयो मद्रकस् तथा तेषां जनपदाः स्फीता केकया मद्रकास् तथा
Vṛṣadarbha, Suvīra, Kekaya, and Madraka—these were his sons, and their regions flourished: Kekayas and Madrakas likewise.
वृषदर्भाः सुवीराश् च तितिक्षोस् तु प्रजास् त्व् इमाः तितिक्षुर् अभवद् राजा पूर्वस्यां दिशि भो द्विजाः
The Vṛṣadarbhas and Suvīras were descended from Śibi; these are the offspring of Titikṣu, who became king in the eastern direction, O twice-born.
उषद्रथो महावीर्यः फेनस् तस्य सुतो ऽभवत् फेनस्य सुतपा जज्ञे ततः सुतपसो बलिः
Uṣadratha, of great valor, had a son named Phena; from Phena was born Sutapā, and from Sutapā came Bali.
जातो मानुषयोनौ तु स राजा काञ्चनेषुधिः महायोगी स तु बलिर् बभूव नृपतिः पुरा
Born in human form, that king wielded a golden bow; Bali, the great yogi, became a ruler in ancient times.
पुत्रान् उत्पादयाम् आस पञ्च वंशकरान् भुवि अङ्गः प्रथमतो जज्ञे वङ्गः सुह्मस् तथैव च
He begot five sons who established lineages on earth: first Aṅga was born, then Vaṅga and Suhma likewise.
पुण्ड्रः कलिङ्गश् च तथा बालेयं क्षत्रम् उच्यते बालेया ब्राह्मणाश् चैव तस्य वंशकरा भुवि
Puṇḍra and Kaliṅga also were born; this is called the Bāleya Kṣatriya lineage, and the Bāleyas and Brāhmaṇas were his descendants on earth.
बलेश् च ब्रह्मणा दत्तो वरः प्रीतेन भो द्विजाः महायोगित्वम् आयुश् च कल्पस्य परिमाणतः
To Bali, the delighted Brahman granted a boon: supreme yogic power and lifespan equal to a kalpa, O twice-born.
बले चाप्रतिमत्वं वै धर्मतत्त्वार्थदर्शनम् संग्रामे चाप्य् अजेयत्वं धर्मे चैव प्रधानताम्
Bali received matchless strength, insight into the essence of dharma, invincibility in battle, and supremacy in righteousness.
त्रैलोक्यदर्शनं चापि प्राधान्यं प्रसवे तथा चतुरो नियतान् वर्णांस् त्वं च स्थापयितेति च
He was granted vision of the three worlds, prominence in progeny, and the authority to establish the four fixed castes, as well as you.
इत्य् उक्तो विभुना राजा बलिः शान्तिं परां ययौ कालेन महता विप्राः स्वं च स्थानम् उपागमत्
Thus addressed by the Lord, King Bali attained supreme peace; after a long time, O sages, he reached his own abode.
तेषां जनपदाः पञ्च अङ्गा वङ्गाः ससुह्मकाः कलिङ्गाः पुण्ड्रकाश् चैव प्रजास् त्व् अङ्गस्य सांप्रतम्
Their five regions are Aṅga, Vaṅga with Suhma, Kaliṅga, and Puṇḍra; these are the peoples of Aṅga at present.
अङ्गपुत्रो महान् आसीद् राजेन्द्रो दधिवाहनः दधिवाहनपुत्रस् तु राजा दिविरथो ऽभवत्
Aṅga's son was the great king Dadhivāhana; Dadhivāhana's son became King Diviratha.
पुत्रो दिविरथस्यासीच् छक्रतुल्यपराक्रमः विद्वान् धर्मरथो नाम तस्य चित्ररथः सुतः
Diviratha had a son named Dharmaratha, whose valor equaled that of Indra; he was learned, and his son was Citraratha.
तेन धर्मरथेनाथ तदा कालञ्जरे गिरौ यजता सह शक्रेण सोमः पीतो महात्मना
Then, Dharmaratha, together with Indra, performed a sacrifice on the Kālañjara mountain, and the great-souled Soma was consumed.
अथ चित्ररथस्यापि पुत्रो दशरथो ऽभवत् लोमपाद इति ख्यातो यस्य शान्ता सुताभवत्
Citraratha also had a son named Daśaratha, who became known as Lomapāda; his daughter was Śāntā.
तस्य दाशरथिर् वीरश् चतुरङ्गो महायशाः ऋष्यशृङ्गप्रसादेन जज्ञे वंशविवर्धनः
The heroic Daśarathi, famed for his fourfold army, was born through the favor of Ṛṣyaśṛṅga, and he increased the lineage.
चतुरङ्गस्य पुत्रस् तु पृथुलाक्ष इति स्मृतः पृथुलाक्षसुतो राजा चम्पो नाम महायशाः
Caturaṅga's son was called Pṛthulākṣa; Pṛthulākṣa's son was the renowned king named Campo.
चम्पस्य तु पुरी चम्पा या मालिन्य् अभवत् पुरा पूर्णभद्रप्रसादेन हर्यङ्गो ऽस्य सुतो ऽभवत्
Campo's city was Campā, which was formerly Mālinī; by the grace of Pūrnabhadra, his son was Haryaṅga.
ततो वैभाण्डकिस् तस्य वारणं शक्रवारणम् अवतारयाम् आस महीं मन्त्रैर् वाहनम् उत्तमम्
Then Vaibhāṇḍaki brought down for him the mighty elephant Vāraṇa, Indra's elephant, onto the earth by means of mantras, as an excellent vehicle.
हर्यङ्गस्य सुतस् तत्र राजा भद्ररथः स्मृतः पुत्रो भद्ररथस्यासीद् बृहत्कर्मा प्रजेश्वरः
Haryaṅga's son was the king Bhadraratha; Bhadraratha's son was Bṛhatkarmā, lord of the people.
बृहद्दर्भः सुतस् तस्य यस्माज् जज्ञे बृहन्मनाः बृहन्मनास् तु राजेन्द्रो जनयाम् आस वै सुतम्
His son was Bṛhaddarbha, from whom Bṛhanmanā was born; Bṛhanmanā, the king, indeed begot a son.
नाम्ना जयद्रथं नाम यस्माद् दृढरथो नृपः आसीद् दृढरथस्यापि विश्वजिज् जनमेजयी
His son was named Jayadratha; from him came the king Dṛḍharatha, and from Dṛḍharatha, Viśvajit and Janamejaya.
दायादस् तस्य वैकर्णो विकर्णस् तस्य चात्मजः तस्य पुत्रशतं त्व् आसीद् अङ्गानां कुलवर्धनम्
His heir was Vaikarṇa, and Vaikarṇa's son was Vikarṇa; he had a hundred sons, who increased the lineage of the Aṅgas.
एते ऽङ्गवंशजाः सर्वे राजानः कीर्तिता मया सत्यव्रता महात्मानः प्रजावन्तो महारथाः
All these kings born in the Aṅga lineage have been recounted by me; they were great-souled, truthful, prolific, and mighty chariot-warriors.
ऋचेयोस् तु मुनिश्रेष्ठा रौद्राश्वतनयस्य वै शृणुध्वं संप्रवक्ष्यामि वंशं राज्ञस् तु भो द्विजाः
Now, O twice-born, listen as I narrate the lineage of King Ṛceya, the foremost sage, son of Raudrāśva.
ऋचेयोस् तनयो राजा मतिनारो महीपतिः मतिनारसुतास् त्व् आसंस् त्रयः परमधार्मिकाः
Ṛceya's son was King Matināra, ruler of the earth; Matināra had three sons, all supremely righteous.
