Hearing the words of the hosts of gods, King Raji then questioned the chief among the demons, just as he had asked the gods.
The demons, filled with pride and understanding only their own interest, replied to that best of kings with these words, full of arrogance.
Prahlada is our Indra, for whose sake we seek victory; but in this battle, O best of kings, you must remain, O king.
Saying 'So be it,' and further urged by the gods, the king was told by the gods: 'Having conquered him, you shall become Indra.'
He struck down all the demons, even those invulnerable to the wielder of the thunderbolt; he, possessing supreme fortune, restored the lost glory of the gods.
Having slain all the demons, the mighty Raji seized the kingdom; then Indra, together with the gods, honored the great and powerful Raji.
Declaring, 'I am the son of Raji,' he again spoke: 'You are Indra, dear one, of all the gods; of this there is no doubt.'
He to whom I am Indra, your son, shall become renowned through his deeds; but hearing these words of Indra, he was deceived by that illusion.
The king, pleased, replied to Indra, 'So be it.' When that king ascended to heaven, he became like the gods.
Raji's sons took the kingdom as their inheritance from Indra; he had five hundred sons, and that became the domain of Indra.
When, confused in their own minds, intoxicated by passion, and unrighteous, they entered the heavenly realm, the world of the gods, in many ways,
Having become haters of Brahman, their strength and valor destroyed, then Indra regained his own sovereignty and his supreme position.
Having slain all the sons of Rajas, who were devoted to desire and anger, whoever hears or recites this account of Śatakratu's restoration from displacement does not attain misfortune.

At the end of his great austerity, Dhanvantari was born again as the wise Vṛddha; Dhanvantari became a god, incarnated among humans here.

In his house was born the god Dhanvantari; then the great king of Kāśi, destroyer of all diseases.

Dhanvantari's son was Ketumān, well-known; Ketumān's son was the heroic Bhīmaratha.

Bhīmaratha's son was Divodāsa, lord of subjects; Divodāsa, righteous in soul, became ruler of Vārāṇasī.
At that very time, a rakṣasa named Kṣemaka settled the city of Vārāṇasī, which was empty of twice-born men.
She was cursed by the wise and great Nikumbha, and for a thousand years she would remain empty; of this there is no doubt.
At the very moment of that curse, Divodāsa, lord of people, established a beautiful city at the edge of his domain, on the Gomati.
