वटसागरयोर् मध्ये यः स्मरेत् पुरुषोत्तमम् ते ऽपि तत्र नरा यान्ति ये मृताः पुरुषोत्तमे
Those who remember Purushottama between the banyan and the ocean, those people who die there in Purushottama also go to that place.
ते ऽपि तत्र परं स्थानं यान्ति नास्त्य् अत्र संशयः एवं मया मुनिश्रेष्ठा विष्णुलोकः सनातनः सर्वानन्दकरः प्रोक्तो भुक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदः
They too attain the supreme abode there; there is no doubt. Thus, O best of sages, I have described the eternal Viṣṇu's world, which bestows all joy and grants both enjoyment and liberation.
बह्वाश्चर्यस् त्वया प्रोक्तो विष्णुलोको जगत्पते नित्यानन्दकरः श्रीमान् भुक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदः
O Lord of the world, you have described Viṣṇu's realm as full of wonders, eternally blissful, glorious, and granting both enjoyment and liberation.
क्षेत्रं च दुर्लभं लोके कीर्तितं पुरुषोत्तमम् त्यक्त्वा यत्र नरो देहं याति सालोक्यतां हरेः
The field called Purushottama, rare in the world, has been praised; whoever abandons their body there attains the same realm as Hari.
सम्यक् क्षेत्रस्य माहात्म्यं त्वया सम्यक् प्रकीर्तितम् यत्र स्वदेहसंत्यागाद् विष्णुलोकं व्रजेन् नरः
You have thoroughly extolled the greatness of the field, where, by abandoning one's own body, a person attains Viṣṇu's world.
अहो मोक्षस्य मार्गो ऽयं देहत्यागस् त्वयोदितः नराणाम् उपकाराय पुरुषाख्ये न संशयः
Ah, this is the path to liberation—the abandonment of the body, as you have described, for the benefit of people in Purushottama; there is no doubt.
अनायासेन देवेश देहं त्यक्त्वा नरोत्तमाः तस्मिन् क्षेत्रे परं विष्णोः पदं यान्ति निरामयम्
O Lord of the gods, without effort, the best of men, abandoning their bodies in that field, attain Viṣṇu's supreme, disease-free abode.
श्रुत्वा क्षेत्रस्य माहात्म्यं विस्मयो नो महान् अभूत् प्रयागपुष्करादीनि क्षेत्राण्य् आयतनानि च
Having heard the greatness of the field, we were not greatly astonished; Prayāga, Puṣkara, and other fields and sanctuaries—
पृथिव्यां सर्वतीर्थानि सरितश् च सरांसि च न तथा तानि सर्वाणि प्रशंससि सुरोत्तम
O best of gods, you do not praise all the holy places, rivers, and lakes on earth as much.
यथा प्रशंससि क्षेत्रं पुरुषाख्यं पुनः पुनः ज्ञातो ऽस्माभिर् अभिप्रायस् तवेदानीं पितामह
As you repeatedly extol the field called Purusha, we have now understood your intention, O Pitamaha.
येन प्रशंससि क्षेत्रं मुक्तिदं पुरुषोत्तमम् पुरुषाख्यसमं नूनं क्षेत्रं नास्ति महीतले तेन त्वं विबुधश्रेष्ठ प्रशंससि पुनः पुनः
Because you praise the liberating field named Purushottama, surely there is no field on earth equal to Purushakhya; thus, O foremost of the wise, you praise it again and again.
सत्यं सत्यं मुनिश्रेष्ठा भवद्भिः समुदाहृतम् पुरुषाख्यसमं क्षेत्रं नास्त्य् अत्र पृथिवीतले
Truly, truly, O best of sages, what you have declared is correct: there is no field on earth equal to Purushakhya.
सन्ति यानि तु तीर्थानि पुण्यान्य् आयतनानि च तानि श्रीपुरुषाख्यस्य कलां नार्हन्ति षोडशीम्
Whatever holy places and sacred abodes exist, they do not equal even a sixteenth part of Shri Purushakhya.
यथा सर्वेश्वरो विष्णुः सर्वलोकोत्तमोत्तमः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Vishnu is supreme among all worlds, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
आदित्यानां यथा विष्णुः श्रेष्ठत्वे समुदाहृतः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Vishnu is declared the best among the Adityas, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
नक्षत्राणां यथा सोमः सरसां सागरो यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Soma is among the stars and the ocean among waters, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
वसूनां पावको यद्वद् रुद्राणां शंकरो यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Pavaka among the Vasus and Shankara among the Rudras, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
वर्णानां ब्राह्मणो यद्वद् वैनतेयश् च पक्षिणाम् तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as the Brahmana among castes and Garuda among birds, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
शिखरिणां यथा मेरुः पर्वतानां हिमालयः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Meru among peaks and Himalaya among mountains, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
प्रमदानां यथा लक्ष्मीः सरितां जाह्नवी यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Lakshmi among women and Jahnavi among rivers, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
ऐरावतो गजेन्द्राणां महर्षीणां भृगुर् यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Airavata among elephants and Bhrigu among great sages, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
सेनानीनां यथा स्कन्दः सिद्धानां कपिलो यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Skanda among commanders and Kapila among Siddhas, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
उच्चैःश्रवा यथाश्वानां कवीनाम् उशना कविः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Ucchaishravas among horses and Ushanas among poets, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
मुनीनां च यथा व्यासः कुबेरो यक्षरक्षसाम् तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as Vyasa among sages and Kubera among Yakshas and Rakshasas, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
इन्द्रियाणां मनो यद्वद् भूतानाम् अवनी यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as the mind among the senses and the earth among beings, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
अश्वत्थः सर्ववृक्षाणां पवनः प्लवतां यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as the Ashvattha among all trees and the wind among those that move, so Purushottama is the foremost among all holy places.
भूषणानां तु सर्वेषां यथा चूडामणिर् द्विजाः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as, O twice-born, the crest-jewel is the foremost among all ornaments, so too is Puruṣottama the most excellent among all sacred fords.
गन्धर्वाणां चित्ररथः शस्त्राणां कुलिशो यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
As Citraratha is chief among the Gandharvas, and the thunderbolt among weapons, so is Puruṣottama the most eminent among all sacred fords.
अकारः सर्ववर्णानां गायत्री छन्दसां यथा तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
As the letter 'A' is foremost among all letters, and Gāyatrī among the Vedic meters, so is Puruṣottama the most distinguished among all sacred fords.
सर्वाङ्गेभ्यो यथा श्रेष्ठम् उत्तमाङ्गं द्विजोत्तमाः तथा समस्ततीर्थानां वरिष्ठं पुरुषोत्तमम्
Just as, O best of twice-born, the head is the highest among all limbs, so is Puruṣottama the most excellent among all sacred fords.
