उद्योतयन् दिशः सर्वा आकाशे विगतक्लमः युवा महाबलो धीमान् विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति
Radiant in all directions, free from fatigue in the sky, youthful, mighty, and wise, he goes to the world of Vishnu.
तत्र कल्पशतं यावद् भुङ्क्ते भोगान् यथेप्सितान् सिद्धाप्सरोभिर् गन्धर्वैः सुरविद्याधरोरगैः
There, for a hundred aeons, he enjoys desired pleasures with accomplished apsaras, gandharvas, gods, vidyadharas, and serpents.
स्तूयमानो मुनिवरैस् तिष्ठते विगतज्वरः यथा देवो जगन्नाथः शङ्खचक्रगदाधरः
Praised by eminent sages, he remains free from affliction, like the Lord of the universe, bearing the conch, discus, and mace.
तथासौ मुदितो विप्राः कृत्वा रूपं चतुर्भुजम् भुक्त्वा तत्र वरान् भोगान् क्रीडां कृत्वा सुरैः सह
Thus, delighted, the Brahmin assumes a four-armed form, enjoys excellent pleasures there, and plays with the gods.
तदन्ते ब्रह्मसदनम् आयाति सर्वकामदम् सिद्धविद्याधरैश् चापि शोभितं सुरकिंनरैः
After that, he goes to the abode of Brahma, granting all desires, adorned by accomplished vidyadharas, gods, and kinnaras.
कालं नवतिकल्पं तु तत्र भुक्त्वा सुखं नरः तस्माद् आयाति विप्रेन्द्राः सर्वकामफलप्रदम्
There, after enjoying happiness for ninety aeons, the man proceeds, O foremost Brahmins, to the realm granting all desired fruits.
रुद्रलोकं सुरगणैः सेवितं सुखमोक्षदम् अनेकशतसाहस्रैर् विमानैः समलंकृतम्
He arrives at Rudra's world, served by hosts of gods, bestowing happiness and liberation, adorned with countless thousands of celestial palaces.
सिद्धविद्याधरैर् यक्षैर् भूषितं दैत्यदानवैः अशीतिकल्पकालं तु तत्र भुक्त्वा सुखं नरः
Adorned by accomplished vidyadharas, yakshas, daityas, and danavas, there the man enjoys happiness for eighty aeons.
तदन्ते याति गोलोकं सर्वभोगसमन्वितम् सुरसिद्धाप्सरोभिश् च शोभितं सुमनोहरम्
After that, he goes to Goloka, filled with every pleasure, splendid and enchanting, adorned by gods, accomplished beings, and apsaras.
तत्र सप्ततिकल्पांस् तु भुक्त्वा भोगम् अनुत्तमम् दुर्लभं त्रिषु लोकेषु स्वस्थचित्तो यथामरः
There, enjoying supreme pleasures for seventy aeons, rare in the three worlds, he remains composed like a god.
तस्माद् आगच्छते लोकं प्राजापत्यम् अनुत्तमम् गन्धर्वाप्सरसैः सिद्धैर् मुनिविद्याधरैर् वृतः
From there, he attains the supreme world of Prajapati, surrounded by gandharvas, apsaras, accomplished beings, sages, and vidyadharas.
षष्टिकल्पान् सुखं तत्र भुक्त्वा नानाविधं मुदा तदन्ते शक्रभवनं नानाश्चर्यसमन्वितम्
There, enjoying various pleasures for sixty aeons with delight, after that, he reaches the abode of Shakra, filled with wonders.
गन्धर्वैः किंनरैः सिद्धैः सुरविद्याधरोरगैः गुह्यकाप्सरसैः साध्यैर् वृतैश् चान्यैः सुरोत्तमैः
Surrounded by gandharvas, kinnaras, accomplished beings, gods, vidyadharas, serpents, secretive apsaras, sadhyas, and other excellent gods.
आगत्य तत्र पञ्चाशत् कल्पान् भुक्त्वा सुखं नरः सुरलोकं ततो गत्वा विमानैः समलंकृतः
Arriving there, the man enjoys happiness for fifty aeons, then goes to the world of the gods, adorned with celestial palaces.
चत्वारिंशत् तु कल्पांस् तु भुक्त्वा भोगान् सुदुर्लभान् आगच्छते ततो लोकं नक्षत्राख्यं सुदुर्लभम्
After enjoying rare pleasures for forty aeons, he then attains the world called Nakshatra, which is exceedingly difficult to reach.
ततो भोगान् वरान् भुङ्क्ते त्रिंशत् कल्पान् यथेप्सितान् तस्माद् आगच्छते लोकं शशाङ्कस्य द्विजोत्तमाः
Thereafter, he enjoys excellent pleasures for thirty aeons as he desires, and then, O best of Brahmins, attains the world of the Moon.
यत्रासौ तिष्ठते सोमः सर्वैर् देवैर् अलंकृतः तत्र विंशतिकल्पांस् तु भुक्त्वा भोगं सुदुर्लभम्
Where Soma resides, adorned by all the gods, there, after enjoying rare pleasures for twenty aeons, he remains.
आदित्यस्य ततो लोकम् आयाति सुरपूजितम् नानाश्चर्यमयं पुण्यं गन्धर्वाप्सरःसेवितम्
After that, he goes to the world of the Sun, revered by the gods, wondrous and virtuous, attended by gandharvas and apsaras.
तत्र भुक्त्वा शुभान् भोगान् दश कल्पान् द्विजोत्तमाः तस्माद् आयाति भुवनं गन्धर्वाणां सुदुर्लभम्
There, having enjoyed auspicious pleasures for ten aeons, O best of twice-born, one then attains the world of the Gandharvas, which is exceedingly rare.
तत्र भोगान् समस्तांश् च कल्पम् एकं यथासुखम् भुक्त्वा चायाति मेदिन्यां राजा भवति धार्मिकः
There, having enjoyed all pleasures for one aeon as one wishes, one then comes to earth and becomes a righteous king.
चक्रवर्ती महावीर्यो गुणैः सर्वैर् अलंकृतः कृत्वा राज्यं स्वधर्मेण यज्ञैर् इष्ट्वा सुदक्षिणैः
A universal monarch, endowed with great prowess and adorned with all virtues, having ruled the kingdom by his own dharma and performed sacrifices with excellent gifts.
तदन्ते योगिनां लोकं गत्वा मोक्षप्रदं शिवम् तत्र भुक्त्वा वरान् भोगान् यावद् आभूतसंप्लवम्
At the end of that, reaching the world of yogis, which grants liberation and is auspicious, there, enjoying excellent pleasures until the dissolution of creation.
तस्माद् आगच्छते चात्र जायते योगिनां कुले प्रवरे वैष्णवे विप्रा दुर्लभे साधुसंमते
From there, he returns here and is born in the noble lineage of yogis, esteemed by the virtuous, in a rare and excellent Vaiṣṇava family of brāhmins.
चतुर्वेदी विप्रवरो यज्ञैर् इष्ट्वाप्तदक्षिणैः वैष्णवं योगम् आस्थाय ततो मोक्षम् अवाप्नुयात्
A distinguished brāhmin, versed in the four Vedas, having performed sacrifices with acquired gifts, adopting Vaiṣṇava yoga, thereafter attains liberation.
एवं यात्राफलं विप्रा मया सम्यग् उदाहृतम् भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं नॄणां किम् अन्यच् छ्रोतुम् इच्छथ
Thus, O brāhmins, I have properly described the fruits of pilgrimage, which grant enjoyment and liberation to men. What else do you wish to hear?
श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे देव विष्णुलोकम् अनामयम् लोकानन्दकरं कान्तं सर्वाश्चर्यसमन्वितम्
We wish to hear, O Lord, about Viṣṇu's world, free from affliction, delightful to all beings, charming, and filled with every wonder.
प्रमाणं तस्य लोकस्य भोगं कान्तिं बलं प्रभो कर्मणा केन गच्छन्ति तत्र धर्मपरायणाः
O Master, tell us the measure of that world, its pleasures, splendor, and power. By what actions do those devoted to dharma reach there?
दर्शनात् स्पर्शनाद् वापि तीर्थस्नानादिनापि वा विस्तराद् ब्रूहि तत्त्वेन परं कौतूहलं हि नः
Whether by seeing, touching, or bathing at holy places, tell us in detail and truth, for we have the highest curiosity.
शृणुध्वं मुनयः सर्वे यत् परं परमं पदम् भक्तानाम् ईहितं धन्यं पुण्यं संसारनाशनम्
Hear, O sages, all of you, about the supreme, highest abode, desired by devotees, blessed, virtuous, and the destroyer of worldly existence.
प्रवरं सर्वलोकानां विष्ण्वाख्यं वदतो मम सर्वाश्चर्यमयं पुण्यं स्थानं त्रैलोक्यपूजितम्
As I speak of the foremost of all worlds, called Viṣṇu's, wondrous, virtuous, a place honored in the three worlds.
