सप्तावरान् सप्त परान् वंशान् उद्धृत्य चात्मनः कामगेन विमानेन सर्वरत्नैर् अलंकृतः
Having lifted seven ancestors and seven descendants from one's lineage, one rides in a wish-fulfilling aerial chariot adorned with all jewels.
गन्धर्वैर् अप्सरोभिश् च सेव्यमानो यथोत्तरैः रूपवान् सुभगः शूरो नरो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत्
Served by Gandharvas and Apsarās in order, handsome, fortunate, and heroic, a person reaches the city of Viṣṇu.
तत्र भुक्त्वा वरान् भोगान् यावद् आभूतसंप्लवम् सर्वकामसमृद्धात्मा जरामरणवर्जितः
There, enjoying excellent pleasures until the dissolution of creation, fulfilled in all desires, one is free from old age and death.
पुण्यक्षयाद् इहागत्य चतुर्वेदी द्विजो भवेत् वैष्णवं योगम् आस्थाय ततो मोक्षम् अवाप्नुयात्
When merit is exhausted, returning here, one becomes a Brahmin versed in the four Vedas; adopting Vaiṣṇava yoga, then attains liberation.
एकैकस्यास् तु यात्रायाः फलं ब्रूहि पृथक् पृथक् यत् प्राप्नोति नरः कृत्वा नारी वा तत्र संयता
Tell me separately the fruit of each festival, what a man or a woman who observes it there obtains.
प्रतियात्राफलं विप्राः शृणुध्वं गदतो मम यत् प्राप्नोति नरः कृत्वा तस्मिन् क्षेत्रे सुसंयतः
O Brahmins, listen to me speak the fruit of each festival; what a person, properly restrained, obtains in that sacred place.
गुडिवायां तथोत्थाने फाल्गुन्यां विषुवे तथा यात्रां कृत्वा विधानेन दृष्ट्वा कृष्णं प्रणम्य च
In Guḍivā, likewise at the rising, in Phālguni, at the equinox, having undertaken the pilgrimage according to the prescribed manner, seeing Kṛṣṇa and bowing down to him,
संकर्षणं सुभद्रां च लभेत् सर्वत्र वै फलम् नरो गच्छेद् विष्णुलोके यावद् इन्द्राश् चतुर्दश
A man attains the fruits everywhere of Saṃkarṣaṇa and Subhadrā; he goes to the world of Viṣṇu for as long as the fourteen Indras reign.
यावद् यात्रां ज्येष्ठमासे करोति विधिवन् नरः तावत् कल्पं विष्णुलोके सुखं भुङ्क्ते न संशयः
For as long as a man performs the pilgrimage in the month of Jyeṣṭha according to the proper rules, for that length of a kalpa he enjoys happiness in the world of Viṣṇu, without doubt.
तस्मिन् क्षेत्रवरे पुण्ये रम्ये श्रीपुरुषोत्तमे भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदे नॄणां सर्वसत्त्वसुखावहे
In that excellent, sacred, delightful field of Śrīpuruṣottama, which grants both enjoyment and liberation to men, and brings happiness to all beings,
ज्येष्ठे यात्रां नरः कृत्वा नारी वा संयतेन्द्रियः यथोक्तेन विधानेन दश द्वे च समाहितः
A man or woman, with controlled senses, who performs the pilgrimage in Jyeṣṭha, with the prescribed rules, for ten and two days, with concentration,
प्रतिष्ठां कुरुते यस् तु शाठ्यदम्भविवर्जितः स भुक्त्वा विविधान् भोगान् मोक्षं चान्ते लभेद् ध्रुवम्
Whoever establishes the installation, free from deceit and pride, after enjoying various pleasures, certainly attains liberation in the end.
श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे देव प्रतिष्ठां वदतस् तव विधानं चार्चनं दानं फलं तत्र जगत्पतेः
O god, we wish to hear from you about the installation: its procedure, worship, donation, and the fruit there, of the Lord of the world.
शृणुध्वं मुनिशार्दूलाः प्रतिष्ठां विधिचोदिताम् यां कृत्वा तु नरो भक्त्या नारी वा लभते फलम्
Hear, O tigers among sages, the installation prescribed by rule; by performing it with devotion, a man or woman attains the fruit.
यात्रा द्वादश संपूर्णा यदा स्यात् तु द्विजोत्तमाः तदा कुर्वीत विधिवत् प्रतिष्ठां पापनाशिनीम्
When the twelve-day pilgrimage is completed, O best of twice-born, then one should properly perform the installation, which destroys sin.
ज्येष्ठे मासि सिते पक्षे त्व् एकादश्यां समाहितः गत्वा जलाशयं पुण्यम् आचम्य प्रयतः शुचिः
In the month of Jyeṣṭha, in the bright fortnight, on the eleventh day, with concentration, going to the sacred reservoir, having sipped water, pure and intent,
आवाह्य सर्वतीर्थानि ध्यात्वा नारायणं तथा ततः स्नानं प्रकुर्वीत विधिवत् सुसमाहितः
Having invoked all the sacred waters, meditating on Nārāyaṇa likewise, then one should bathe according to the proper rules, with full concentration.
यस्य यो विधिर् उद्दिष्ट ऋषिभिः स्नानकर्मणि तेनैव तु विधानेन स्नानं तस्य विधीयते
Whatever procedure is prescribed by the sages for the bathing rite, by that very method the bathing is to be performed for him.
स्नात्वा सम्यग् विधानेन ततो देवान् ऋषीन् पितॄन् संतर्पयेत् तथान्यांश् च नामगोत्रविधानवित्
Having bathed properly according to the rules, then he should satisfy the gods, sages, and ancestors, as well as others, knowing their names and lineages.
उत्तीर्य वाससी धौते निर्मले परिधाय वै उपस्पृश्य विधानेन भास्कराभिमुखस् ततः
Having crossed over, wearing washed and clean garments, having touched water according to the rules, then facing the sun,
गायत्रीं पावनीं देवीं मनसा वेदमातरम् सर्वपापहरां पुण्यां जपेद् अष्टोत्तरं शतम्
He should mentally recite the purifying Gāyatrī, the divine mother of the Vedas, which removes all sin and is sacred, one hundred and eight times.
पुण्यांश् च सौरमन्त्रांश् च श्रद्धया सुसमाहितः त्रिः प्रदक्षिणम् आवृत्य भास्करं प्रणमेत् ततः
He should, with faith and full concentration, recite the sacred solar mantras, circumambulate the sun three times, and then bow to him.
वेदोक्तं त्रिषु वर्णेषु स्नानं जाप्यम् उदाहृतम् स्त्रीशूद्रयोः स्नानजाप्यं वेदोक्तविधिवर्जितम्
The bathing and recitation prescribed in the Vedas are declared for the three classes; for women and Śūdras, the bathing and recitation are without the Vedic prescribed method.
ततो गच्छेद् गृहं मौनी पूजयेत् पुरुषोत्तमम् प्रक्षाल्य हस्तौ पादौ च उपस्पृश्य यथाविधि
Then, silent, he should go home, worship Puruṣottama, wash his hands and feet, and touch water as prescribed.
घृतेन स्नापयेद् देवं क्षीरेण तदनन्तरम् मधुगन्धोदकेनैव तीर्थचन्दनवारिणा
One should bathe the deity with ghee, then with milk, and then with water scented with honey, and with water mixed with sacred sandalwood.
ततो वस्त्रयुगं श्रेष्ठं भक्त्या तं परिधापयेत् चन्दनागरुकर्पूरैः कुङ्कुमेन विलेपयेत्
After that, with devotion, one should clothe Him in the finest pair of garments and anoint Him with sandalwood, agaru, camphor, and kuṅkuma.
पूजयेत् परया भक्त्या पद्मैश् च पुरुषोत्तमम् अन्यैश् च वैष्णवैः पुष्पैर् अर्चयेन् मल्लिकादिभिः
With supreme devotion, one should worship Puruṣottama with lotuses and other Vaiṣṇava flowers, and honor Him with jasmine and similar blossoms.
संपूज्यैवं जगन्नाथं भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं हरिम् धूपं चागुरुसंयुक्तं दहेद् देवस्य चाग्रतः
Having thus worshipped Jagannātha Hari, the bestower of enjoyment and liberation, one should burn incense mixed with agaru before the deity.
गुग्गुलं च मुनिश्रेष्ठा दहेद् गन्धसमन्वितम् दीपं प्रज्वालयेद् भक्त्या यथाशक्त्या घृतेन वै
O best of sages, one should also burn guggulu mixed with fragrant substances, and light a lamp with devotion, using ghee as one is able.
अन्यांश् च दीपकान् दद्याद् द्वादशैव समाहितः घृतेन च मुनिश्रेष्ठास् तिलतैलेन वा पुनः
With concentration, one should offer twelve other lamps, using ghee or, O best of sages, again with sesame oil.
