मासान् अन्यान् परित्यज्य माघादीन् प्रपितामह प्रशंससि कथं ज्येष्ठं ब्रूहि तत्कारणं प्रभो
O great-grandfather, having set aside other months such as Magha, you praise Jyeshtha; tell me, master, what is the reason for this?
शृणुध्वं मुनिशार्दूलाः प्रवक्ष्यामि समासतः ज्येष्ठं मासं यथा तेभ्यः प्रशंसामि पुनः पुनः
Hear, O foremost among sages, I will briefly explain why I repeatedly praise the month of Jyeshtha above all others.
पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि सरितश् च सरांसि च पुष्करिण्यस् तडागानि वाप्यः कूपास् तथा ह्रदाः
All the sacred places on earth, the rivers, lakes, lotus ponds, tanks, wells, and pools—
नानानद्यः समुद्राश् च सप्ताहं पुरुषोत्तमे ज्येष्ठशुक्लदशम्यादि प्रत्यक्षं यान्ति सर्वदा
Various rivers and oceans, during seven days in the Supreme Person, always become manifest beginning from the tenth day of the bright fortnight in Jyeshtha.
स्नानदानादिकं तस्माद् देवताप्रेक्षणं द्विजाः यत् किंचित् क्रियते तत्र तस्मिन् काले ऽक्षयं भवेत्
Therefore, O twice-borns, whatever acts of bathing, giving, and viewing the deities are performed at that time, all become inexhaustible.
शुक्लपक्षस्य दशमी ज्येष्ठे मासि द्विजोत्तमाः हरते दश पापानि तस्माद् दशहरा स्मृता
O best of twice-borns, the tenth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Jyeshtha removes ten sins; hence it is remembered as the remover of ten.
यस् तस्यां हलिनं कृष्णं पश्येद् भद्रां सुसंयतः सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विष्णुलोकं व्रजेन् नरः
Whoever, well-restrained, sees the black plough and the auspicious one on that day is freed from all sins and goes to Vishnu's realm.
उत्तरे दक्षिणे विप्रास् त्व् अयने पुरुषोत्तमम् दृष्ट्वा रामं सुभद्रां च विष्णुलोकं व्रजेन् नरः
During the northern or southern solstice, O Brahmins, whoever beholds Purushottama, Rama, and Subhadra, goes to Vishnu's realm.
नरो दोलागतं दृष्ट्वा गोविन्दं पुरुषोत्तमम् फाल्गुन्यां प्रयतो भूत्वा गोविन्दस्य पुरं व्रजेत्
A man who sees Govinda, the Supreme Person, seated on a swing, having become devoted during Phalguni, enters the city of Govinda.
विषुवद्दिवसे प्राप्ते पञ्चतीर्थीं विधानतः कृत्वा संकर्षणं कृष्णं दृष्ट्वा भद्रां च भो द्विजाः
On the day of the equinox, having performed the fivefold pilgrimage according to the ritual, and seeing Sankarshana, Krishna, and the auspicious one, O twice-borns—
नरः समस्तयज्ञानां फलं प्राप्नोति दुर्लभम् विमुक्तः सर्वपापेभ्यो विष्णुलोकं च गच्छति
A man attains the rare fruit of all sacrifices, is freed from all sins, and goes to Vishnu's realm.
यः पश्यति तृतीयायां कृष्णं चन्दनरूषितम् वैशाखस्यासिते पक्षे स यात्य् अच्युतमन्दिरम्
Whoever sees Krishna anointed with sandalwood on the third day of the dark fortnight in Vaishakha goes to the abode of the Unchanging One.
ज्यैष्ठ्यां ज्येष्ठर्क्षयुक्तायां यः पश्येत् पुरुषोत्तमम् कुलैकविंशम् उद्धृत्य विष्णुलोकं स गच्छति
Whoever beholds the Supreme Person during Jyeshtha, when the moon is joined with the Jyeshtha star, having uplifted twenty-one generations of his lineage, attains the world of Vishnu.
यदा भवेन् महाज्यैष्ठी राशिनक्षत्रयोगतः प्रयत्नेन तदा मर्त्यैर् गन्तव्यं पुरुषोत्तमम्
When the great Jyeshtha occurs, with the conjunction of the zodiac sign and star, then, with effort, mortals should go to see the Supreme Person.
कृष्णं दृष्ट्वा महाज्यैष्ठ्यां रामं भद्रां च भो द्विजाः नरो द्वादशयात्रायाः फलं प्राप्नोति चाधिकम्
O twice-born, seeing Krishna during the great Jyeshtha, or Rama, or Bhadrā, a man obtains the fruit of the twelve pilgrimages, and even more.
प्रयागे च कुरुक्षेत्रे नैमिषे पुष्करे गये गङ्गाद्वारे कुशावर्ते गङ्गासागरसंगमे
At Prayaga, Kurukshetra, Naimisha, Pushkara, Gaya, Gangadvara, Kushavarta, and at the confluence of Ganga and the ocean,
कोकामुखे शूकरे च मथुरायां मरुस्थले शालग्रामे वायुतीर्थे मन्दरे सिन्धुसागरे
At Kokamukha, Shukara, Mathura, the desert, Shalagrama, Vayutirtha, Mandara, and the Sindhu sea,
पिण्डारके चित्रकूटे प्रभासे कनखले द्विजाः शङ्खोद्धारे द्वारकायां तथा बदरिकाश्रमे
At Pindaraka, Chitrakuta, Prabhasa, Kanakhala, O twice-born, Shankhoddhara, Dwaraka, and also Badarikashrama,
लोहकुण्डे चाश्वतीर्थे सर्वपापप्रमोचने कामालये कोटितीर्थे तथा चामरकण्टके
At Lohakunda, Ashvatirtha, the place that releases all sins, Kamalaya, Kotitirtha, and also at Amarakaṇṭaka,
लोहार्गले जम्बुमार्गे सोमतीर्थे पृथूदके उत्पलावर्तके चैव पृथुतुङ्गे सुकुब्जके
At Lohargala, Jambumarga, Somatirtha, Prithudaka, Utpalavartaka, Prithutunga, and Sukubjaka,
एकाम्रके च केदारे काश्यां च विरजे द्विजाः कालञ्जरे च गोकर्णे श्रीशैले गन्धमादने
At Ekamraka, Kedara, Kashi, O twice-born, Viraja, Kalanjara, Gokarna, Shrishaila, and Gandhamadana,
महेन्द्रे मलये विन्ध्ये पारियात्रे हिमालये सह्ये च शुक्तिमन्ते च गोमन्ते चार्बुदे तथा
At Mahendra, Malaya, Vindhya, Pariyatra, Himalaya, Sahya, Shuktimanta, Gomanta, and also at Arbuda,
गङ्गायां सर्वतीर्थेषु यामुनेषु च भो द्विजाः सारस्वतेषु गोमत्यां ब्रह्मपुत्रेषु सप्तसु
On the Ganga at all its sacred places, and on the Yamuna, O twice-born, on Sarasvati, Gomati, and the seven Brahmaputra rivers,
गोदावरी भीमरथी तुङ्गभद्रा च नर्मदा तापी पयोउष्णी कावेरी शिप्रा चर्मण्वती द्विजाः
Godavari, Bhimarathi, Tungabhadra, Narmada, Tapi, Payoshni, Kaveri, Shipra, and Charmaṇvati, O twice-born,
वितस्ता चन्द्रभागा च शतद्रुर् बाहुदा तथा ऋषिकुल्या कुमारी च विपाशा च दृषद्वती
Vitasta, Chandrabhaga, Shatadru, Bahuda, Rishikulyā, Kumari, Vipasha, and Drishadvati,
शरयूर् नाकगङ्गा च गण्डकी च महानदी कौशिकी करतोया च त्रिस्रोता मधुवाहिनी
Sharayu, Nakaganga, Gandaki, Mahanadi, Kaushiki, Karatoya, Trisrota, and Madhuvahini,
महानदी वैतरणी याश् चान्या नानुकीर्तिताः अथवा किं बहूक्तेन भाषितेन द्विजोत्तमाः
Mahanadi, Vaitarani, and others not mentioned; or, what need is there for much speech, O best of twice-born?
पृथिव्यां सर्वतीर्थेषु सर्वेष्व् आयतनेषु च सागरेषु च शैलेषु नदीषु च सरःसु च
On earth, at all sacred places, in all shrines, in seas, on mountains, in rivers, and in lakes,
यत् फलं स्नानदानेन राहुग्रस्ते दिवाकरे तत् फलं कृष्णम् आलोक्य महाज्यैष्ठ्यां लभेन् नरः
The fruit gained by bathing and giving during an eclipse of the sun is obtained by a man who beholds Krishna during the great Jyeshtha.
तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन गन्तव्यं पुरुषोत्तमे महाज्यैष्ठ्यां मुनिश्रेष्ठा सर्वकामफलेप्सुभिः
Therefore, with all effort, one should go to the Supreme Person during the great Jyeshtha, O best of sages, who desire the fruit of all wishes.
