One should recite the purifying Gāyatrī, the divine one, one hundred and eight times, and also other solar mantras, standing with concentration.

And to humans and other ancestors, by name and lineage, the knower of mantras should offer water mixed with sesame, with proper attention.
Having first performed the offering to the deities with concentration, the twice-born becomes qualified thereafter to perform the offering to the ancestors.
At the time of the śrāddha and the offering into the fire, one should pour with a single hand; but for the tarpaṇa, one should use both hands. This is always the prescribed rule.

With the left hand placed beneath, one should pour water using the right hand, saying 'May they be satisfied,' and reciting the names and gotras aloud.
If, out of ignorance, one performs the offering to the ancestors with sesame seeds resting on the body, then the ancestors are satisfied with one's skin, flesh, blood, and bones.
One should not perform offerings to gods and ancestors with sesame seeds placed on the limbs; the blood becomes the water, and the giver becomes sinful.
If water is given on the ground while the giver stands in water, O best of sages, it is futile and does not reach anyone.
If a man, standing on land, offers water while in water, it does not reach the ancestors; that water is useless.
One should never offer water to the ancestors while in water; after crossing over, in a clean place, one should perform the water offering.
Water offered in water, in vessels, in anger, or with one hand does not reach; water not given on the ground is ineffective.
The imperishable abode of the ancestors is the earth, given by me, O twice-born; therefore, one who desires the ancestors' satisfaction should give there itself.
Those who are born on the earth, established on the earth, and who attain dissolution in the earth—therefore, one should offer water on the earth.
After spreading kuśa grass with tips intact and invoking them with one's own mantra, one should place the gods at the eastern tips and the ancestors at the southern tips.
Having satisfied the gods, ancestors, and others, and having sipped water, reciting aloud, one should make a square, four-sided, beautiful area the size of a hand.

Having drawn such a maṇḍala, O twice-born, one should worship Nārāyaṇa, the unborn Lord, there, using the eight-syllable method.
Next, I will explain the supreme purification of the body: meditating on the syllable 'A' in the heart, accompanied by the lines of the cakra.
One should contemplate it as blazing with three flames, burning away sins, and the syllable 'Rā' situated in the center of the lunar disc on the crown of the head.
One should envision it as white in color, pouring forth nectar, flooding the earth; thus, freed from sin, one then attains a divine body.
Then, the wise should place the eight-syllable mantra upon themselves, beginning from the left foot and proceeding sequentially.

The syllable 'Na', belonging to Shiva and dark in hue, is to be placed on the right foot; the syllable 'Mo', said to be Time, should be set at the left hip.
The syllable 'Na', the universal seed, is to be placed on the right side; the syllable 'Ra', said to be fire, is to be established at the navel region.
The syllable 'Ya', associated with air, is to be placed on the left shoulder; the syllable 'Na', all-pervading, is to be set on the right shoulder; this 'Ya' is to be placed on the head, where all worlds are established.

Above is Vaikuntha, Varaha is on the earth below; in all the intermediate directions, Madhava is present.
Whether walking, standing, awake, or asleep, I am protected by Narasimha; indeed, I am pervaded by Vāsudeva.
