एवम् उक्त्वासितैः पद्मैः शतैर् दशशतादिकैः संपूज्य च महादेवं राजा विद्यां पुनर् जपेत्
Having spoken thus, and worshipping Mahadeva with hundreds and thousands of white lotuses, the king again recited the mantra.
अतिभक्तिं तु संचिन्त्य नृपस्य जगदीश्वरः सांनिध्यम् अगमत् तुष्टो श्मीत्य् उवाच सहोमया
Conceiving intense devotion in the king, the Lord of the Universe, pleased, arrived in person and spoke with Uma.
श्रुत्वैवं गिरम् ईशस्य विलोक्य सहसा हरम् भस्मदिग्धं विरूपाक्षं शरत्कुन्देन्दुवर्चसम्
Hearing these words of the Lord and suddenly beholding Hara, smeared with ashes, with misshapen eyes, shining like autumn jasmine and the moon,
शार्दूलचर्मवसनं शशाङ्काङ्कितमूर्धजम् महीं निपत्य सहसा प्रणम्य स तदाब्रवीत्
Clad in a tiger skin, with hair adorned by the crescent moon, he fell to the earth at once, bowed, and then spoke.
कारुण्यं यदि मे दृष्ट्वा प्रसन्नो ऽसि प्रभो यदि कालस्य वशम् आपन्नो बालको द्विजपुत्रकः
If, seeing my compassion, you are pleased, O Lord, and if the brahmin boy has fallen under the power of Time,
जीवत्व् एष पुनर् बाल इत्य् एवं व्रतम् आहितम् अकस्माच् च मृतं बालं नियम्य भगवन् स्वयम् यथोक्तायुष्यसंयुक्तं क्षेमं कुरु महेश्वर
Let this boy live again—such is my vow. O Lord, though the boy died suddenly, by your own power, grant him a life as ordained, and make him safe, O Maheshvara.
श्वेतस्यैतद् वचः श्रुत्वा मुदं प्राप हरस् तदा कालम् आज्ञापयाम् आस सर्वभूतभयंकरम्
Hearing these words of Shveta, Hara was pleased, and then commanded Kala, the terror of all beings.
नियम्य कालं दुर्धर्षं यमस्याज्ञाकरं द्विजाः बालं संजीवयाम् आस मृत्योर् मुखगतं पुनः
Restraining Kala, who is difficult to withstand and obeys Yama's command, Hara revived the boy, who had entered the jaws of death.
कृत्वा क्षेमं जगत् सर्वं मुनेः पुत्रं स तं द्विजाः देव्या सहोमया देवस् तत्रैवान्तरधीयत
Having secured the welfare of the entire world, that god, together with the goddess and his own energy, vanished there before the sage's son, O twice-born.
एवं संजीवयाम् आस मुनेः पुत्रं नृपोत्तमः
In this way, the best of kings revived the sage's son.
देवदेव जगन्नाथ त्रैलोक्यप्रभवाव्यय ब्रूहि नः परमं तथ्यं श्वेताख्यस्य च सांप्रतम्
O Lord of gods, Master of the universe, origin and imperishable one of the three worlds, tell us now the supreme truth about the one called Śveta.
शृणुध्वं मुनिशार्दूलाः सर्वसत्त्वहितावहम् प्रवक्ष्यामि यथातथ्यं यत् पृच्छथ ममानघाः
Hear, O tigers among sages, you who are sinless and seek the good of all beings; I shall speak to you truly, just as you have asked me.
माधवस्य च माहात्म्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् यच् छ्रुत्वाभिमतान् कामान् ध्रुवं प्राप्नोति मानवः
The greatness of Mādhava destroys all sins; hearing it, a person surely attains all desired wishes.
श्रुतवान् ऋषिभिः पूर्वं माधवाख्यस्य भो द्विजाः शृणुध्वं तां कथां दिव्यां भयशोकार्तिनाशिनीम्
O twice-born, I have heard from the sages of old the divine story of the one called Mādhava; listen to that tale, which destroys fear, sorrow, and distress.
स कृत्वा राज्यम् एकाग्र्यं वर्षाणां च सहस्रशः विचार्य लौकिकान् धर्मान् वैदिकान् नियमांस् तथा
He ruled the kingdom with single-mindedness for thousands of years, considering both worldly and Vedic duties, as well as the proper observances.
केशवाराधने विप्रा निश्चितं व्रतम् आस्थितः स गत्वा परमं क्षेत्रं सागरं दक्षिणाश्रयम्
Firmly resolved in his vow to worship Keśava, he went to the supreme sacred place, the southern shore of the ocean.
तटे तस्मिञ् शुभे रम्ये देशे कृष्णस्य चान्तिके श्वेतो ऽथ कारयाम् आस प्रासादं शुभलक्षणम्
There, on that beautiful and auspicious shore, near Kṛṣṇa, Śveta then had a splendid palace constructed.
धन्वन्तरशतं चैकं देवदेवस्य दक्षिणे ततः श्वेतेन विप्रेन्द्राः श्वेतशैलमयेन च
And to the south of the Lord of gods, Śveta, O best of Brāhmaṇas, built a hall of a hundred columns, made of white stone.
कृतः स भगवाञ् श्वेतो माधवश् चन्द्रसंनिभः प्रतिष्ठां विधिवच् चक्रे यथोद्दिष्टां स्वयं तु सः
That blessed Śveta established Mādhava, shining like the moon, in accordance with the prescribed rites, just as he himself had been instructed.
दत्त्वा दानं द्विजातिभ्यो दीनानाथतपस्विनाम् अथानन्तरतो राजा माधवस्य च संनिधौ
Having given gifts to Brāhmaṇas, to the poor, the helpless, and ascetics, the king then, in the presence of Mādhava,
महीं निपत्य सहसा ओंकारं द्वादशाक्षरम् जपन् स मौनम् आस्थाय मासम् एकं समाधिना
Suddenly fell to the earth, reciting the twelve-syllabled Oṃkāra, maintaining silence, and for one month remained absorbed in meditation.
निराहारो महाभागः सम्यग् विष्णुपदे स्थितः जपान्ते स तु देवेशं संस्तोतुम् उपचक्रमे
Without food, the blessed one stood firmly at Viṣṇu's feet; at the end of his recitation, he began to praise the Lord of gods.
ॐ नमो वासुदेवाय नमः संकर्षणाय च प्रद्युम्नायानिरुद्धाय नमो नारायणाय च
Oṃ, obeisance to Vāsudeva, obeisance to Saṃkarṣaṇa, to Pradyumna, to Aniruddha, and obeisance to Nārāyaṇa.
नमो ऽस्तु बहुरूपाय विश्वरूपाय वेधसे निर्गुणायाप्रतर्क्याय शुचये शुक्लकर्मणे
Obeisance to the one of many forms, of universal form, the creator; to the qualityless, the inconceivable, the pure, the performer of pure deeds.
ॐ नमः पद्मनाभाय पद्मगर्भोद्भवाय च नमो ऽस्तु पद्मवर्णाय पद्महस्ताय ते नमः
Oṃ, obeisance to Padmanābha, to the one born from the lotus-womb; obeisance to you of lotus hue, to you who hold the lotus.
ॐ नमः पुष्कराक्षाय सहस्राक्षाय मीढुषे नमः सहस्रपादाय सहस्रभुजमन्यवे
Oṃ, obeisance to Puṣkarākṣa, to the thousand-eyed, the gracious one; obeisance to the thousand-footed, the thousand-armed mighty one.
ॐ नमो ऽस्तु वराहाय वरदाय सुमेधसे वरिष्ठाय वरेण्याय शरण्यायाच्युताय च
Om, obeisance to Varaha, the bestower of boons, of excellent wisdom, the most eminent, the most worthy, the refuge, and the imperishable.
ॐ नमो बालरूपाय बालपद्मप्रभाय च बालार्कसोमनेत्राय मुञ्जकेशाय धीमते
Om, obeisance to the one with the form of a child, with the radiance of a young lotus, whose eyes are like the rising sun and moon, with matted hair of muñja grass, and of intelligence.
केशवाय नमो नित्यं नमो नारायणाय च माधवाय वरिष्ठाय गोविन्दाय नमो नमः
Obeisance always to Keshava, obeisance to Narayana, to Madhava, the most eminent, to Govinda, repeated salutations.
ॐ नमो विष्णवे नित्यं देवाय वसुरेतसे मधुसूदनाय नमः शुद्धायांशुधराय च
Om, constant obeisance to Vishnu, the god, the one with radiant seed, obeisance to Madhusudana, to the pure one, and to the bearer of rays.
