शाकयावकमूलैस् तु फलपिण्याकसक्तुकैः पयोभक्षेण विप्रेन्द्रा वर्तयेत् साधकोत्तमः
The foremost practitioner should subsist on barley, wheat, roots, fruits, cakes, and gruel, or on milk, O best of Brahmins.
कोशकौपीनवासाश् च ध्यानयुक्तो जितेन्द्रियः अरण्ये विजने देशे पर्वते सिन्धुसंगमे
Clad in bark and loincloth, absorbed in meditation, with controlled senses, in a forest, in a solitary place, on a mountain, or at the confluence of rivers—
ऊषरे सिद्धक्षेत्रे च नरसिंहाश्रमे तथा प्रतिष्ठाप्य स्वयं वापि पूजां कृत्वा विधानतः
On barren ground, in a sacred place, or in a Narasimha hermitage, having established (the image) or oneself, one should perform worship according to the rule.
द्वादश्यां शुक्लपक्षस्य उपोष्य मुनिपुंगवाः जपेल् लक्षाणि वै विंशन् मनसा संयतेन्द्रियः
On the twelfth day of the bright fortnight, having fasted, O best of sages, one should recite the mantra two hundred thousand times, with mind and senses restrained.
उपपातकयुक्तश् च महापातकसंयुतः मुक्तो भवेत् ततो विप्राः साधको नात्र संशयः
Even one afflicted by minor or major sins becomes freed thereby, O Brahmins; of this there is no doubt for the practitioner.
कृत्वा प्रदक्षिणं तत्र नरसिंहं प्रपूजयेत् पुण्यगन्धादिभिर् धूपैः प्रणम्य शिरसा प्रभुम्
Having circumambulated there, one should worship Narasimha with auspicious fragrances and incense, bowing the head to the Lord.
कर्पूरचन्दनाक्तानि जातीपुष्पाणि मस्तके प्रदद्यान् नरसिंहस्य ततः सिद्धिः प्रजायते
One should place jasmine flowers, anointed with camphor and sandalwood, upon the head of Narasiṃha; then success is attained.
भगवान् सर्वकार्येषु न क्वचित् प्रतिहन्यते तेजः सोढुं न शक्ताः स्युर् ब्रह्मरुद्रादयः सुराः
The Blessed Lord is never obstructed in any undertaking; even Brahma, Rudra, and the other gods are unable to withstand his radiance.
किं पुनर् दानवा लोके सिद्धगन्धर्वमानुषाः विद्याधरा यक्षगणाः सकिंनरमहोरगाः
What then of demons in the world, or siddhas, gandharvas, humans, vidyādharas, yakṣas, kinnaras, and great serpents?
मन्त्रं यान् आसुरान् हन्तुं जपन्त्य् एके ऽन्यसाधकाः ते सर्वे प्रलयं यान्ति दृष्ट्वादित्याग्निवर्चसः
Those other practitioners who recite mantras to destroy the asuras—all of them perish upon seeing the brilliance of the sun and fire.
सकृज्जप्तं तु कवचं रक्षेत् सर्वम् उपद्रवम् द्विर्जप्तं कवचं दिव्यं रक्षते देवदानवात्
If the armor is recited once, it protects against all calamities; if recited twice, the divine armor guards against gods and demons.
गन्धर्वाः किंनरा यक्षा विद्याधरमहोरगाः भूताः पिशाचा रक्षांसि ये चान्ये परिपन्थिनः
Gandharvas, kinnaras, yakṣas, vidyādharas, great serpents, spirits, piśācas, rākṣasas, and other adversaries—
त्रिर्जप्तं कवचं दिव्यम् अभेद्यं च सुरासुरैः द्वादशाभ्यन्तरे चैव योजनानां द्विजोत्तमाः
If the divine armor is recited three times, it becomes impenetrable by gods and demons; within twelve yojanas, O best of twice-born, it protects.
रक्षते भगवान् देवो नरसिंहो महाबलः ततो गत्वा बिलद्वारम् उपोष्य रजनीत्रयम्
The Blessed Lord, the mighty Narasiṃha, protects; then, having gone to the entrance of the cave and fasting for three nights—
पलाशकाष्ठैः प्रज्वाल्य भगवन्तं हुताशनम् पलाशसमिधस् तत्र जुहुयात् त्रिमधुप्लुताः
One should kindle a fire with palāśa wood and offer palāśa sticks, soaked in three kinds of honey, to the blessed Fire.
द्वे शते द्विजशार्दूला वषट्कारेण साधकः ततो विवरद्वारं तु प्रकटं जायते क्षणात्
O tiger among twice-born, the practitioner should make two hundred offerings with the vaṣaṭ formula; then the entrance to the cave becomes manifest in an instant.
ततो विशेत् तु निःशङ्कं कवची विवरं बुधः गच्छतः संकटं तस्य तमोमोहश् च नश्यति
Then the wise one, wearing the armor, should enter the opening without fear; as he proceeds, his distress and delusion are destroyed.
राजमार्गः सुविस्तीर्णो दृश्यते भ्रमराजितः नरसिंहं स्मरंस् तत्र पातालं विशते द्विजाः
A royal road, broad and adorned with bees, is seen; remembering Narasiṃha, the twice-born enter Pātāla there.
गत्वा तत्र जपेत् तत्त्वं नरसिंहाख्यम् अव्ययम् ततः स्त्रीणां सहस्राणि वीणावादनकर्मणाम्
Having arrived there, one should recite the immutable essence named Narasiṃha; then thousands of women, engaged in playing the vīṇā—
निर्गच्छन्ति पुरो विप्राः स्वागतं ता वदन्ति च प्रवेशयन्ति ता हस्ते गृहीत्वा साधकेश्वरम्
Come forth before the brahmins, greet them, and take the master of practitioners by the hand, leading him inside.
ततो रसायनं दिव्यं पाययन्ति द्विजोत्तमाः पीतमात्रे दिव्यदेहो जायते सुमहाबलः
Then, O best of twice-born, they give him divine elixir to drink; upon drinking it, a divine body arises, endowed with great strength.
क्रीडते सह कन्याभिर् यावद् आभूतसंप्लवम् भिन्नदेहो वासुदेवे लीयते नात्र संशयः
He plays with the maidens until the dissolution of creation; his separate body merges into Vāsudeva—there is no doubt about this.
यदा न रोचते वासस् तस्मान् निर्गच्छते पुनः पट्टं शूलं च खड्गं च रोचनां च मणिं तथा
When the dwelling no longer pleases, he departs again, taking with him cloth, spear, sword, rocanā, and a jewel.
रसं रसायनं चैव पादुकाञ्जनम् एव च कृष्णाजिनं मुनिश्रेष्ठा गुटिकां च मनोहराम्
He takes the essence, the elixir, sandals, collyrium, black antelope skin, O best of sages, and a delightful pill.
कमण्डलुं चाक्षसूत्रं यष्टिं संजीवनीं तथा सिद्धविद्यां च शास्त्राणि गृहीत्वा साधकेश्वरः
The accomplished master, taking the water pot, the rosary, the staff, the reviving herb, the perfected knowledge, and the scriptures—
ज्वलद्वह्निस्फुलिङ्गोर्मिवेष्टितं त्रिशिखं हृदि सकृन् न्यस्तं दहेत् सर्वं वृजिनं जन्मकोटिजम्
If he places in his heart, even once, the three-pointed (mantra) surrounded by blazing sparks of fire, it will burn away all sin accumulated over millions of births.
विषे न्यस्तं विषं हन्यात् कुष्ठं हन्यात् तनौ स्थितम् स्वदेहे भ्रूणहत्यादि कृत्वा दिव्येन शुध्यति
If poison is placed upon poison, it destroys it; it destroys leprosy present in the body; and even after committing acts like abortion on oneself, one is purified by the divine (practice).
महाग्रहगृहीतेषु ज्वलमानं विचिन्तयेत् हृदन्ते वै ततः शीघ्रं नश्येयुर् दारुणा ग्रहाः
When seized by great malefic planets, one should contemplate the blazing (mantra) at the end of the heart; then, those fierce planets will quickly be destroyed.
बालानां कण्ठके बद्धं रक्षा भवति नित्यशः गण्डपिण्डकलूतानां नाशनं कुरुते ध्रुवम्
Tied around the necks of children, it always acts as protection; it certainly destroys swelling, tumors, and boils.
व्याधिजाते समिद्भिश् च घृतक्षीरेण होमयेत् त्रिसंध्यं मासम् एकं तु सर्वरोगान् विनाशयेत्
When disease arises, one should perform oblations with sacred sticks and clarified butter mixed with milk at the three junctions of the day for one month; it destroys all diseases.
