संन्यासेन यथोक्तेन यत् फलं समुदाहृतम् नरस् तत् फलम् आप्नोति दृष्ट्वा कृष्णं प्रणम्य च
Whatever result has been declared for renunciation as prescribed, a man attains that result by beholding Krishna and offering obeisance.
किं चात्र बहुनोक्तेन माहात्म्ये तस्य भो द्विजाः दृष्ट्वा कृष्णं नरो भक्त्या मोक्षं प्राप्नोति दुर्लभम्
O twice-born, why speak at length about the greatness of that? Simply by seeing Krishna with devotion, a man attains the rare liberation.
पापैर् विमुक्तः शुद्धात्मा कल्पकोटिसमुद्भवैः श्रिया परमया युक्तः सर्वैः समुदितो गुणैः
Freed from sins, pure in soul, even from those accumulated over millions of aeons, endowed with supreme prosperity, and possessed of all virtues—
सर्वकामसमृद्धेन विमानेन सुवर्चसा त्रिसप्तकुलम् उद्धृत्य नरो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत्
Riding in a radiant aerial chariot, fulfilled in all desires, a man uplifts twenty-one generations of his lineage and goes to Vishnu’s city.
तत्र कल्पशतं यावद् भुक्त्वा भोगान् मनोरमान् गन्धर्वाप्सरसैः सार्धं यथा विष्णुश् चतुर्भुजः
There, for a hundred aeons, enjoying delightful pleasures together with Gandharvas and Apsaras, he dwells like four-armed Vishnu.
च्युतस् तस्माद् इहायातो विप्राणां प्रवरे कुले सर्वज्ञः सर्ववेदी च जायते गतमत्सरः
Falling from there, he is born here in the noble family of Brahmins, all-knowing, versed in all the Vedas, and free from envy.
स्वधर्मनिरतः शान्तो दाता भूतहिते रतः आसाद्य वैष्णवं ज्ञानं ततो मुक्तिम् अवाप्नुयात्
Devoted to his own duty, peaceful, generous, intent on the welfare of beings, attaining Vaishnava knowledge, he then obtains liberation.
ततः संपूज्य मन्त्रेण सुभद्रां भक्तवत्सलाम् प्रसादयेत् ततो विप्राः प्रणिपत्य कृताञ्जलिः
Then, worshipping Subhadra, who is fond of devotees, with mantra, he should propitiate her, O Brahmins, bowing with joined palms.
नमस् ते सर्वगे देवि नमस् ते शुभसौख्यदे त्राहि मां पद्मपत्त्राक्षि कात्यायनि नमो ऽस्तु ते
"Salutations to you, O all-pervading goddess, salutations to you, giver of auspicious happiness. Protect me, O lotus-eyed one, O Katyayani, my salutations to you."
एवं प्रसाद्य तां देवीं जगद्धात्रीं जगद्धिताम् बलदेवस्य भगिनीं सुभद्रां वरदां शिवाम्
Thus having propitiated that goddess, the supporter and benefactress of the world, Subhadra, the sister of Baladeva, the granter of boons, the auspicious one—
कामगेन विमानेन नरो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत् आभूतसंप्लवं यावत् क्रीडित्वा तत्र देववत्
By a wish-yielding aerial chariot, a man goes to Vishnu’s city, and there, playing like a god, remains until the cosmic dissolution.
इह मानुषतां प्राप्तो ब्राह्मणो वेदविद् भवेत् प्राप्य योगं हरेस् तत्र मोक्षं च लभते ध्रुवम्
Having attained human birth here, he becomes a Brahmin, knower of the Vedas; attaining union with Hari there, he surely obtains liberation.
एवं दृष्ट्वा बलं कृष्णं सुभद्रां प्रणिपत्य च धर्मं चार्थं च कामं च मोक्षं च लभते ध्रुवम्
Thus, having seen Balarama, Krishna, and Subhadra, and having bowed, one surely attains dharma, artha, kama, and moksha.
निष्क्रम्य देवतागारात् कृतकृत्यो भवेन् नरः प्रणम्यायतनं पश्चाद् व्रजेत् तत्र समाहितः
Departing from the temple, a man becomes one who has accomplished his purpose; after bowing to the shrine, he should go forth with concentration.
इन्द्रनीलमयो विष्णुर् यत्रास्ते वालुकावृतः अन्तर्धानगतं नत्वा ततो विष्णुपुरं व्रजेत्
There, where Vishnu, made of sapphire and covered with sand, abides in concealment—having bowed to him, one then goes to Vishnu’s city.
सर्वदेवमयो यो ऽसौ हतवान् असुरोत्तमम् स आस्ते तत्र भो विप्राः सिंहार्धकृतविग्रहः
O Brahmins, he who is composed of all the gods, who slew the foremost of demons, abides there with a form half-lion.
भक्त्या दृष्ट्वा तु तं देवं प्रणम्य नरकेसरीम् मुच्यते पातकैर् मर्त्यः समस्तैर् नात्र संशयः
By seeing that god with devotion and bowing to Narasimha, a mortal is freed from all sins—of this there is no doubt.
नरसिंहस्य ये भक्ता भवन्ति भुवि मानवाः न तेषां दुष्कृतं किंचित् फलं स्याद् यद् यद् ईप्सितम्
Those men on earth who are devotees of Narasimha—no evil deed of theirs bears fruit, whatever they desire.
तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन नरसिंहं समाश्रयेत् धर्मार्थकाममोक्षाणां फलं यस्मात् प्रयच्छति
Therefore, with all effort, one should take refuge in Narasimha, for he grants the fruits of righteousness, prosperity, pleasure, and liberation.
माहात्म्यं नरसिंहस्य सुखदं भुवि दुर्लभम् यथा कथयसे देव तेन नो विस्मयो महान्
The greatness of Narasimha, which brings happiness and is rare in this world, as you recount, O Lord, fills us with great wonder.
प्रभावं तस्य देवस्य विस्तरेण जगत्पते श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे ब्रूहि परं कौतूहलं हि नः
We wish to hear in detail the power of that god, O Lord of the world; tell us, for our curiosity is indeed great.
यथा प्रसीदेद् देवो ऽसौ नरसिंहो महाबलः भक्तानाम् उपकाराय ब्रूहि देव नमो ऽस्तु ते
Please tell us how that mighty god Narasimha may be pleased, for the benefit of devotees; O Lord, our salutations to you.
प्रसादान् नरसिंहस्य या भवन्त्य् अत्र सिद्धयः ब्रूहि ताः कुरु चास्माकं प्रसादं प्रपितामह
Tell us, O great-grandfather, what attainments arise here from the grace of Narasimha, and bestow your favor upon us.
शृणुध्वं तस्य भो विप्राः प्रभावं गदतो मम अजितस्याप्रमेयस्य भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदस्य च
Hear, O Brahmins, as I speak of his power—of the unconquered, immeasurable one, who bestows enjoyment and liberation.
कः शक्नोति गुणान् वक्तुं समस्तांस् तस्य भो द्विजाः सिंहार्धकृतदेहस्य प्रवक्ष्यामि समासतः
Who is able to recount all the qualities of him whose form is half lion, O twice-born? I will declare them in brief.
याः काश्चित् सिद्धयश् चात्र श्रूयन्ते दैवमानुषाः प्रसादात् तस्य ताः सर्वाः सिध्यन्ति नात्र संशयः
Whatever attainments, divine or human, are heard of here—all of them are accomplished by his grace; of this there is no doubt.
स्वर्गे मर्त्ये च पाताले दिक्षु तोये पुरे नगे प्रसादात् तस्य देवस्य भवत्य् अव्याहता गतिः
In heaven, on earth, in the netherworld, in the directions, in water, in cities, on mountains—by the grace of that god, one's progress is unhindered.
असाध्यं तस्य देवस्य नास्त्य् अत्र सचराचरे नरसिंहस्य भो विप्राः सदा भक्तानुकम्पिनः
There is nothing unattainable for that god, O Brahmins, in all that moves and does not move; Narasimha is ever compassionate to devotees.
विधानं तस्य वक्ष्यामि भक्तानाम् उपकारकम् येन प्रसीदेच् चैवासौ सिंहार्धकृतविग्रहः
I will declare the procedure that benefits devotees, by which that lion-bodied one may be pleased.
शृणुध्वं मुनिशार्दूलाः कल्पराजं सनातनम् नरसिंहस्य तत्त्वं च यन् न ज्ञातं सुरासुरैः
Hear, O best of sages, the eternal king of rituals and the true nature of Narasimha, which is unknown even to gods and demons.
