मन्वन्तरं चतुर्थं वः कथयिष्यामि सांप्रतम् काव्यः पृथुस् तथैवाग्निर् जह्नुर् धाता द्विजोत्तमाः
Now I shall tell you of the fourth Manvantara: Kāvyas, Pṛthu, Agni, Jahnu, and Dhātā, O best of twice-born.
कपीवान् अकपीवांश् च तत्र सप्तर्षयो द्विजाः पुराणे कीर्तिता विप्राः पुत्राः पौत्राश् च भो द्विजाः
Kapīvān and Akapīvān were the seven sages there, O twice-born; in the Purāṇas, their sons and grandsons are also praised, O Brāhmaṇas.
तथा देवगणाश् चैव तामसस्यान्तरे मनोः द्युतिस् तपस्यः सुतपास् तपोभूतः सनातनः
Likewise, the groups of gods in the interval of Tāmasa Manu were Dyuti, Tapasya, Sutapas, Tapobhūta, and Sanātana.
तपोरतिर् अकल्माषस् तन्वी धन्वी परंतपः तामसस्य मनोर् एते दश पुत्राः प्रकीर्तिताः
Taporati, Akalmāṣa, Tanvī, Dhanvī, and Paraṃtapa—these ten sons of Tāmasa Manu are declared.
वायुप्रोक्ता मुनिश्रेष्ठाश् चतुर्थं चैतद् अन्तरम् देवबाहुर् यदुध्रश् च मुनिर् वेदशिरास् तथा
The best of sages, as spoken by Vāyu, in that fourth interval are Devabāhu, Yadudhra, the sage Vedaśirā,
हिरण्यरोमा पर्जन्य ऊर्ध्वबाहुश् च सोमजः सत्यनेत्रस् तथात्रेय एते सप्तर्षयो ऽपरे
Hiraṇyaromā, Parjanya, Ūrdhvabāhu, Somaja, Satyanetra, and Ātreya—these are the other seven sages.
देवाश् चाभूतरजसस् तथा प्रकृतयः स्मृताः वारिप्लवश् च रैभ्यश् च मनोर् अन्तरम् उच्यते
The gods called Abhūtarajasas and the Prakṛtis are remembered; Vāriplava and Raibhya are also named in the interval of Manu.
अथ पुत्रान् इमांस् तस्य बुध्यध्वं गदतो मम धृतिमान् अव्ययो युक्तस् तत्त्वदर्शी निरुत्सुकः
Now listen as I tell you of his sons: Dhṛtimān, Avyaya, Yukta, Tattvadarśī, and Nirutsuka.
आरण्यश् च प्रकाशश् च निर्मोहः सत्यवाक् कृती रैवतस्य मनोः पुत्राः पञ्चमं चैतद् अन्तरम्
Āraṇya, Prakāśa, Nirmoha, Satyavāk, and Kṛtī—these are the sons of Raivata Manu; this is the fifth interval.
षष्ठं तु संप्रवक्ष्यामि तद् बुध्यध्वं द्विजोत्तमाः भृगुर् नभो विवस्वांश् च सुधामा विरजास् तथा
Now I shall declare the sixth; understand this, O best of twice-born: Bhṛgu, Nabha, Vivasvān, Sudhāmā, and Virajā,
अतिनामा सहिष्णुश् च सप्तैते च महर्षयः चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे विप्रा मनोर् देवास् त्व् इमे स्मृताः
Atināmā and Sahiṣṇu—these seven great sages are remembered in the interval of Cākṣuṣa Manu, O Brāhmaṇas, and these are the gods of that Manu.
आबालप्रथितास् ते वै पृथक्त्वेन दिवौकसः लेखाश् च नामतो विप्राः पञ्च देवगणाः स्मृताः
They are renowned from childhood, dwelling separately in heaven; and the five groups of gods are remembered by name, O Brāhmaṇas.
ऋषेर् अङ्गिरसः पुत्रा महात्मानो महौजसः नाड्वलेया मुनिश्रेष्ठा दश पुत्रास् तु विश्रुताः
The sons of the sage Aṅgiras, great-souled and mighty, and the Nāḍvaleyas, O best of sages, are the ten famous sons.
रुरुप्रभृतयो विप्राश् चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे मनोः षष्ठं मन्वन्तरं प्रोक्तं सप्तमं तु निबोधत
The sages beginning with Ruru, O Brāhmaṇas, are in the interval of Cākṣuṣa Manu; the sixth Manvantara is thus spoken—now hear of the seventh.
अत्रिर् वसिष्ठो भगवान् कश्यपश् च महान् ऋषिः गौतमो ऽथ भरद्वाजो विश्वामित्रस् तथैव च
Atri, Vasiṣṭha, the venerable Kaśyapa, the great sage Gautama, then Bharadvāja, and Viśvāmitra as well,
तथैव पुत्रो भगवान् ऋचीकस्य महात्मनः सप्तमो जमदग्निश् च ऋषयः सांप्रतं दिवि
And likewise the son of the venerable and great-souled Ṛcīka, the seventh is Jamadagni—these are the sages now in heaven.
साध्या रुद्राश् च विश्वे च वसवो मरुतस् तथा आदित्याश् चाश्विनौ चापि देवौ वैवस्वतौ स्मृतौ
The Sādhyas, Rudras, Viśvedevas, Vasus, Maruts, Ādityas, the two Aśvins, and the two Vaivasvata deities are remembered.
मनोर् वैवस्वतस्यैते वर्तन्ते सांप्रते ऽन्तरे इक्ष्वाकुप्रमुखाश् चैव दश पुत्रा महात्मनः
These are present in the current interval of Vaivasvata Manu, along with his ten illustrious sons headed by Ikṣvāku.
एतेषां कीर्तितानां तु महर्षीणां महौजसाम् तेषां पुत्राश् च पौत्राश् च दिक्षु सर्वासु भो द्विजाः
O twice-born, the sons and grandsons of these renowned and mighty great sages are found in all directions.
मन्वन्तरेषु सर्वेषु प्राग् आसन् सप्त सप्तकाः लोके धर्मव्यवस्थार्थं लोकसंरक्षणाय च
In every Manvantara, there were seven groups of seven sages, for the establishment of dharma and the protection of the world.
मन्वन्तरे व्यतिक्रान्ते चत्वारः सप्तका गणाः कृत्वा कर्म दिवं यान्ति ब्रह्मलोकम् अनामयम्
When a Manvantara passes, four groups of seven sages, having fulfilled their duties, ascend to the flawless realm of Brahma.
ततो ऽन्ये तपसा युक्ताः स्थानं तत् पूरयन्त्य् उत अतीता वर्तमानाश् च क्रमेणैतेन भो द्विजाः
Then others, endowed with austerity, fill that place; O twice-born, those who have passed and those who are present do so in turn.
अनागताश् च सप्तैते स्मृता दिवि महर्षयः मनोर् अन्तरम् आसाद्य सावर्णस्येह भो द्विजाः
And the seven great sages remembered in heaven are yet to come, O twice-born, upon the arrival of Sāvarṇa Manu's interval.
रामो व्यासस् तथात्रेयो दीप्तिमन्तो बहुश्रुताः भारद्वाजस् तथा द्रौणिर् अश्वत्थामा महाद्युतिः
Rāma, Vyāsa, Atri, radiant and learned, Bhāradvāja, Drauṇi, and Aśvatthāman of great brilliance.
गौतमश् चाजरश् चैव शरद्वान् नाम गौतमः कौशिको गालवश् चैव और्वः काश्यप एव च
Gautama, Ajara, Śaradvān named Gautama, Kauśika, Gālava, Aurva, and Kāśyapa as well.
एते सप्त महात्मानो भविष्या मुनिसत्तमाः वैरी चैवाध्वरीवांश् च शमनो धृतिमान् वसुः
These seven great souls will be the foremost sages in the future: Vairī, Ādhvarī, Śamana, Dhṛtimān, and Vasu.
अरिष्टश् चाप्य् अधृष्टश् च वाजी सुमतिर् एव च सावर्णस्य मनोः पुत्रा भविष्या मुनिसत्तमाः
Ariṣṭa, Adhṛṣṭa, Vājī, and Sumati are also the sons of Sāvarṇa Manu, who will be the foremost sages in the future.
एतेषां कल्यम् उत्थाय कीर्तनात् सुखम् एधते यशश् चाप्नोति सुमहद् आयुष्मांश् च भवेन् नरः
One who rises early and recites their names attains happiness, great fame, and long life.
एतान्य् उक्तानि भो विप्राः सप्त सप्त च तत्त्वतः मन्वन्तराणि संक्षेपाच् छृणुतानागतान्य् अपि
O Brāhmaṇas, these seven groups have been spoken of truly; now hear in brief about the coming Manvantaras.
सावर्णा मनवो विप्राः पञ्च तांश् च निबोधत एको वैवस्वतस् तेषां चत्वारस् तु प्रजापतेः
O Brāhmaṇas, there are five Sāvarṇa Manus; know them. One is Vaivasvata, and four are of Prajāpati.
