प्रीतो ऽहं ते नृपश्रेष्ठ वरं वरय सुव्रत यद् इष्टं तत् प्रयच्छामि हृदि यत् ते व्यवस्थितम्
I am pleased with you, best of kings; choose a boon, O virtuous one. Whatever you desire, I shall grant—whatever is established in your heart.
मद्दर्शनम् अपुण्यानां स्वप्नान्ते ऽपि न जायते त्वं पुनर् दृढभक्तित्वात् प्रत्यक्षं दृष्टवान् असि
My vision does not arise even in dreams for the unworthy; but you, through firm devotion, have seen me directly.
श्रुत्वैवं वासुदेवस्य वचनं तस्य भो द्विजाः रोमाञ्चिततनुर् भूत्वा इदं स्तोत्रं जगौ नृपः
Hearing these words of Vāsudeva, O Brāhmaṇas, the king, his body bristling with joy, sang this hymn.
श्रियः कान्त नमस् ते ऽस्तु श्रीपते पीतवाससे श्रीद श्रीश श्रीनिवास नमस् ते श्रीनिकेतन
O beloved of Śrī, obeisance to you! Lord of Śrī, clad in yellow garments, giver of prosperity, lord of fortune, abode of Śrī, I bow to you, dwelling place of Śrī.
आद्यं पुरुषम् ईशानं सर्वेशं सर्वतोमुखम् निष्कलं परमं देवं प्रणतो ऽस्मि सनातनम्
I bow to the primordial person, the ruler, the lord of all, facing everywhere, without division, the supreme god, eternal.
शब्दातीतं गुणातीतं भावाभावविवर्जितम् निर्लेपं निर्गुणं सूक्ष्मं सर्वज्ञं सर्वभावनम्
Beyond sound, beyond qualities, free from existence and non-existence, unstained, without attributes, subtle, all-knowing, the source of all things.
प्रावृण्मेघप्रतीकाशं गोब्राह्मणहिते रतम् सर्वेषाम् एव गोप्तारं व्यापिनं सर्वभाविनम्
Resembling a rain cloud, devoted to the welfare of cows and Brahmins, protector of all, pervading everything, the creator of all beings.
शङ्खचक्रधरं देवं गदामुशलधारिणम् नमस्ये वरदं देवं नीलोत्पलदलच्छविम्
I salute the god who holds the conch and discus, who bears the mace and club, the giver of boons, whose hue is like a blue lotus petal.
नागपर्यङ्कशयनं क्षीरोदार्णवशायिनम् नमस्ये ऽहं हृषीकेशं सर्वपापहरं हरिम्
I bow to Hari, who reclines on the serpent couch, who rests in the ocean of milk, Hṛṣīkeśa, remover of all sins.
पुनस् त्वां देवदेवेशं नमस्ये वरदं विभुम् सर्वलोकेश्वरं विष्णुं मोक्षकारणम् अव्ययम्
Again I salute you, lord of gods, giver of boons, all-pervading, Viṣṇu, ruler of all worlds, cause of liberation, imperishable.
एवं स्तुत्वा तु तं देवं प्रणिपत्य कृताञ्जलिः उवाच प्रणतो भूत्वा निपत्य धरणीतले
Having thus praised that god, bowing with joined palms, he spoke, having prostrated himself upon the earth.
प्रीतो ऽसि यदि मे नाथ वृणोमि वरम् उत्तमम् देवासुराः सगन्धर्वा यक्षरक्षोमहोरगाः
If you are pleased with me, O lord, I choose the highest boon; gods, demons, Gandharvas, Yakṣas, Rākṣasas, and great serpents—
सिद्धविद्याधराः साध्याः किंनरा गुह्यकास् तथा ऋषयो ये महाभागा नानाशास्त्रविशारदाः
Siddhas, Vidyādharas, Sādhyas, Kinnaras, Guhyakas, and also those great sages, experts in various scriptures—
परिव्राड्योगयुक्ताश् च वेदतत्त्वार्थचिन्तकाः मोक्षमार्गविदो ये ऽन्ये ध्यायन्ति परमं पदम्
Renunciants engaged in yoga, those contemplating the essence of the Vedas, those knowing the path of liberation, and others who meditate on the supreme state—
निर्गुणं निर्मलं शान्तं यत् पश्यन्ति मनीषिनः तत् पदं गन्तुम् इच्छामि त्वत्प्रसादात् सुदुर्लभम्
That attribute-less, pure, peaceful state which the wise perceive—I wish to reach that state by your grace, though it is very difficult to attain.
सर्वं भवतु भद्रं ते यथेष्टं सर्वम् आप्नुहि भविष्यति यथाकामं मत्प्रसादान् न संशयः
May all auspiciousness be yours; obtain everything as you desire. By my grace, all will happen as you wish, without doubt.
दश वर्षसहस्राणि तथा नव शतानि च अविच्छिन्नं महाराज्यं कुरु त्वं नृपसत्तम
For ten thousand years, and also nine hundred more, enjoy uninterrupted great sovereignty, O best of kings.
प्रयास्यसि पदं दिव्यं दुर्लभं यत् सुरासुरैः पूर्णमनोरथं शान्तं गुह्यम् अव्यक्तम् अव्ययम्
You will attain the divine state, rare for gods and demons, fulfilled in all wishes, peaceful, secret, unmanifest, imperishable.
परात् परतरं सूक्ष्मं निर्लेपं निष्कलं ध्रुवम् चिन्ताशोकविनिर्मुक्तं क्रियाकारणवर्जितम्
Transcending even the highest, subtle, unstained, indivisible, eternal, free from anxiety and sorrow, devoid of action and cause.
तद् अहं दर्शयिष्यामि ज्ञेयाख्यं परमं पदम् यं प्राप्य परमानन्दं प्राप्स्यसि परमां गतिम्
I will show you that supreme state called 'to be known,' by attaining which you will gain supreme bliss and the highest goal.
कीर्तिश् च तव राजेन्द्र भवत्य् अत्र महीतले यावद् घना नभो यावद् यावच् चन्द्रार्कतारकम्
Your fame, O king, will endure on this earth as long as clouds remain in the sky, as long as the moon, sun, and stars exist.
यावत् समुद्राः सप्तैव यावन् मेर्वादिपर्वताः तिष्ठन्ति दिवि देवाश् च तावत् सर्वत्र चाव्यया
As long as the seven oceans and mountains like Meru stand, as long as gods dwell in heaven, so long will your glory be everywhere, undiminished.
इन्द्रद्युम्नसरो नाम तीर्थं यज्ञाङ्गसंभवम् यत्र स्नात्वा सकृल् लोकः शक्रलोकम् अवाप्नुयात्
There is a sacred place called Indradyumna Lake, born from the limbs of sacrifice; whoever bathes there even once attains the world of Indra.
दापयिष्यति यः पिण्डांस् तटे ऽस्मिन् सरसः शुभे कुलैकविंशम् उद्धृत्य शक्रलोकं गमिष्यति
Whoever offers ancestral oblations on the beautiful bank of this lake, uplifting twenty-one generations of his lineage, will go to the world of Indra.
पूज्यमानो ऽप्सरोभिश् च गन्धर्वैर् गीतनिस्वनैः विमानेन वसेत् तत्र यावद् इन्द्राश् चतुर्दश
Honored by celestial nymphs and with the songs of Gandharvas resounding, he will dwell there in a celestial chariot for as long as fourteen Indras reign.
सरसो दक्षिणे भागे नैरृत्यां तु समाश्रिते न्यग्रोधस् तिष्ठते तत्र तत्समीपे तु मण्डपः
On the southern side of the lake, in the direction of the southwest, stands a banyan tree; near it there is a pavilion.
केतकीवनसंछन्नो नानापादपसंकुलः नारिकेलैर् असंख्येयैश् चम्पकैर् बकुलावृतैः
Covered by a grove of ketaki and crowded with various trees, it is adorned with countless coconut palms, champaka, and bakula trees.
अशोकैः कर्णिकारैश् च पुंनागैर् नागकेसरैः पाटलाम्रातसरलैश् चन्दनैर् देवदारुभिः
There are ashoka, karnikara, punnaga, nagakesara, patala, amra, atisara, sandalwood, and deodar trees.
न्यग्रोधाश्वत्थखदिरैः पारिजातैः सहार्जुनैः हिन्तालैश् चैव तालैश् च शिंशपैर् बदरैस् तथा
There are banyan, sacred fig, khadira, parijata, arjuna, hintala, various palms, shimshapa, and jujube trees as well.
करञ्जैर् लकुचैः प्लक्षैः पनसैर् बिल्वधातुकैः अन्यैर् बहुविधैर् वृक्षैः शोभितः समलंकृतः
It is beautified and adorned with karanja, lakucha, plaksha, jackfruit, bael, dhataki, and many other kinds of trees.
