All the people were joyful and nourished at that royal festival, including the ascetics who had attained perfection and the long-lived sages.
No such sacrifice, endowed with wealth and grain, had ever occurred; thus, the king, according to the proper rites, completed the horse sacrifice and the Vaiṣṇava temple, O best of twice-born.
Tell us, O Lord of gods, what we ask of ancient times: how those images were formerly made by Indradyumna.
And by what means Mādhava was pleased with him; tell us everything, for we are greatly curious.
Listen, O tiger among sages, to the ancient account in accord with the Vedas; I will narrate what happened before and the origin of the images.
When the great sacrifice began and the temple was constructed, he became anxious day and night about the images.
I do not know by whom I might see the Lord of gods, purifier of all, creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the worlds, the Supreme Person.
The king, absorbed in anxiety, neither slept at night nor by day; he did not enjoy various pleasures, nor did he bathe or adorn himself.
He took no delight in music, fragrance, singing, or colors, nor in elephants intoxicated with rut, nor in many horses.
Nor in great sapphires, blue gems, rubies, nor in gold, silver, and other precious stones adorned with diamonds and crystal.
Neither by many objects of passion and desire, nor by wild things or those dwelling in the sky, did the king's mind find increased satisfaction.
Among stones, clay, and wood found on earth, what is praised as suitable for a form of Viṣṇu, bearing all auspicious marks?
Of these three, the one beloved and worshipped by the gods, when established, brings joy; thus he became absorbed in this thought.
According to the Pañcarātra method, having worshipped the Supreme Person, the king, immersed in contemplation, began to praise Him.

Just as, in ancient times, You lifted the earth from the netherworld with Your tusk, so, O Great Boar, protect me from the ocean of suffering.
These forms of Yours, O Kṛṣṇa, bestowers of boons, have been praised by me. These, beginning with Baladeva, exist separately.
Your limbs, O Lord of the gods, are Garuḍa and others; likewise, O Master, the guardians of the directions with their weapons, and those beginning with Keśava, and also Acyuta.
And all other forms of Yours, O Lord of the gods, spoken of by the wise, they too, O Lord of the universe with gracious eyes, are all present.
All have been worshipped and praised by me, and you all have been saluted. Grant me a boon that bestows righteousness, desire, wealth, and liberation.
Those forms of Yours, O Hari, beginning with Saṃkarṣaṇa, have been described; arising for the purpose of Your worship, they are thus established in You.
O Lord of the gods, in ultimate reality there is no division in you; whatever various forms of yours are spoken of, they are only figurative.
How can a human speak of duality in you, who are non-dual? You alone, O Hari, are all-pervading, of the nature of consciousness, and without stain.
