पर्वतान्य् उपधान्यानि भूतानि ददृशुश् च ते एवं प्रमुदितं सर्वं पशुतो धनधान्यतः
They also beheld mountains, heaps of grain, and all beings, all rejoicing in abundant cattle, wealth, and grain.
यज्ञवाटं नृपा दृष्ट्वा विस्मयं परमं गताः ब्राह्मणानां विशां चैव बहुमिष्टान्नम् ऋद्धिमत्
Seeing the sacrificial enclosure, the kings were filled with utmost wonder at the abundance of food offered to the Brahmins and the people.
पूर्णे शतसहस्रे तु विप्राणां तत्र भुञ्जताम् दुन्दुभिर् मेघनिर्घोषान् मुहुर्मुहुर् अथाकरोत्
When a full hundred thousand Brahmins were feasting there, drums resounded again and again with the roar of thunderclouds.
विननादासकृच् चापि दिवसे दिवसे गते एवं स ववृधे यज्ञस् तस्य राज्ञस् तु धीमतः
Day after day, the sacrificial ground echoed with continuous sounds; thus, the sacrifice of that wise king flourished.
अन्नस्य सुबहून् विप्रा उत्सर्गान् निर्गतोपमान् दधिकुल्याश् च ददृशुः पयसश् च ह्रदांस् तथा
The Brahmins saw countless heaps of food, streams of curds, and lakes of milk.
जम्बूद्वीपो हि सकलो नानाजनपदैर् युतः द्विजाश् च तत्र दृश्यन्ते राज्ञस् तस्य महामखे
Indeed, the entire Jambudvipa, filled with many peoples, and Brahmins as well, were seen at that king’s great sacrifice.
तत्र यानि सहस्राणि पुरुषाणां ततस् ततः गृहीत्वा भाजनं जग्मुर् बहूनि द्विजसत्तमाः
There, thousands upon thousands of men, each taking a vessel, departed—many excellent Brahmins.
श्राविणश् चापि ते सर्वे सुमृष्टमणिकुण्डलाः पर्यवेषयन् द्विजातीञ् शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः
All of them, adorned with polished jeweled earrings, served the twice-born in hundreds and thousands.
विविधान्य् अनुपानानि पुरुषा ये ऽनुयायिनः ते वै नृपोपभोज्यानि ब्राह्मणेभ्यो ददुः सह
Various drinks were given by the king’s attendants to the Brahmins, along with the king’s own share.
समागतान् वेदविदो राज्ञश् च पृथिवीश्वरान् पूजां चक्रे तदा तेषां विधिवद् भूरिदक्षिणः
He honored those assembled—knowers of the Veda and rulers of the earth—with proper worship and abundant gifts.
दिग्देशाद् आगतान् राज्ञो महासंग्रामशालिनः नटनर्तककादींश् च गीतस्तुतिविशारदान्
Warriors famed for great battles, who had come from all directions, as well as dancers, actors, and skilled singers and praisers, were present for the king.
पत्न्यो मनोरमास् तस्य पीनोन्नतपयोधराः इन्दीवरपलाशाक्ष्यः शरच्चन्द्रनिभाननाः
His wives were charming, with full, high breasts, eyes like blue lotuses and palasha flowers, and faces like the autumn moon.
कुलशीलगुणोपेताः सहस्रैकं शताधिकम् एवं तद्भूपपरमपत्नीगणसमन्वितम्
Endowed with noble lineage, character, and virtues, they numbered a thousand and one hundred, together with the king’s other principal wives.
रत्नमालाकुलं दिव्यं पताकाध्वजसेवितम् रत्नहारयुतं रम्यं चन्द्रकान्तिसमप्रभम्
Adorned with strings of gems, divine, attended by banners and flags, beautiful with jeweled necklaces, it shone with the brilliance of moonstone.
करिणः पर्वताकारान् मदसिक्तान् महाबलान् शतशः कोटिसंघातैर् दन्तिभिर् दन्तभूषणैः
Hundreds and millions of elephants, mountain-like in form, drenched in rut, mighty in strength, adorned with tusk ornaments, were assembled.
वातवेगजवैर् अश्वैः सिन्धुजातैः सुशोभनैः श्वेताश्वैः श्यामकर्णैश् च कोट्यनेकैर् जवान्वितैः
With swift horses, born of the Sindhu region, splendid in appearance, white steeds and those with dark ears, countless in number, endowed with speed, were present.
संनद्धबद्धकक्षैश् च नानाप्रहरणोद्यतैः असंख्येयैः पदातैश् च देवपुत्रोपमैस् तथा
There were innumerable foot soldiers, girded and armored, equipped with various weapons, ready for battle, resembling sons of the gods.
इत्य् एवं ददृशे राजा यज्ञसंभारविस्तरम् मुदं लेभे तदा राजा संहृष्टो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत्
Thus the king beheld the vast array of sacrificial preparations; at that moment, delighted, the king spoke joyfully.
आनयध्वं हयश्रेष्ठं सर्वलक्षणलक्षितम् चारयध्वं पृथिव्यां वै राजपुत्राः सुसंयताः
Bring forth the finest horse, marked with all auspicious signs; let the disciplined princes lead it across the earth.
विद्वद्भिर् धर्मविद्भिश् च अत्र होमो विधीयताम् कृष्णच्छागं च महिषं कृष्णसारमृगं द्विजान्
Let learned and righteous men perform the sacrificial rite here; bring a black goat, a buffalo, a black antelope for the twice-born.
अनड्वाहं च गाश् चैव सर्वांश् च पशुपालकान् इष्टयश् च प्रवर्तन्तां प्रासादं वैष्णवं ततः
Bring a bull, cows, and all herdsmen; let the desired offerings proceed, and establish the Vaishnava pavilion.
सर्वम् एतच् च विप्रेभ्यो दीयतां मनसेप्सितम् स्त्रियश् च रत्नकोट्यश् च ग्रामाश् च नगराणि च
Let all these be given to the Brahmins as they desire: women, heaps of jewels, villages, and cities.
सम्यक् समृद्धभूम्यश् च विषयाश् चैवम् अर्थिनाम् अन्यानि द्रव्यजातानि मनोज्ञानि बहूनि च
Let fertile lands, territories, and many delightful kinds of wealth be granted to those who seek them.
सर्वेषां याचमानानां नास्ति ह्य् एतन् न भाषयेत् तावत् प्रवर्ततां यज्ञो यावद् देवः पुरा त्व् इह प्रत्यक्षं मम चाभ्येति यज्ञस्यास्य समीपतः
For all who ask, nothing should be denied; let the sacrifice proceed until the god himself appears before me here, near this sacrifice.
एवम् उक्त्वा तदा विप्रा राजसिंहो महाभुजः ददौ सुवर्णसंघातं कोटीनां चैव भूषणम्
Having spoken thus, the lion-like king of mighty arms gave the Brahmins heaps of gold and ornaments numbering in the millions.
करेणुशतसाहस्रं वाजिनो नियुतानि च अर्बुदं चैव वृषभं स्वर्णशृङ्गीश् च धेनुकाः
He gave a hundred thousand female elephants, tens of thousands of horses, a hundred million bulls, and cows with golden horns.
सुरूपाः सुरभीश् चैव कांस्यदोहाः पयस्विनीः प्रायच्छत् स तु विप्रेभ्यो वेदविद्भ्यो मुदा युतः
He gave beautiful, fragrant cows, those yielding milk in bronze vessels, to the Brahmins, the knowers of the Vedas, with joy.
वासांसि च महार्हाणि राङ्कवास्तरणानि च सुशुक्लानि च शुभ्राणि प्रवालमणिम् उत्तमम्
He gave costly garments, blankets, pure white and shining, and the finest coral and gems.
अददात् स महायज्ञे रत्नानि विविधानि च
He gave various kinds of jewels at the great sacrifice.
वज्रवैदूर्यमाणिक्यमुक्तिकाद्यानि यानि च अलंकारवतीः शुभ्राः कन्या राजीवलोचनाः
He gave diamonds, sapphires, rubies, pearls, and other gems; radiant, adorned maidens with lotus-like eyes.
