वृतं शालैः कदम्बैश् च पुंनागैः सरलद्रुमैः पनसैर् नारिकेलैश् च बकुलैर् नागकेसरैः
That place was adorned with groves of shāla and kadamba trees, puṃnāga, sarala pines, jackfruit, coconut palms, bakula, and nāgakesara trees.
तालैः पिप्पलैः खर्जूरैर् नारङ्गैर् बीजपूरकैः शालैर् आम्रातकैर् लोध्रैर् बकुलैर् बहुवारकैः
With palmyra, pipal, date palms, oranges, bījapūra citrons, shāla, amrātaka, lodhra, bakula, and many vāraka trees.
कपित्थैः कर्णिकारैश् च पाटलाशोकचम्पकैः दाडिमैश् च तमालैश् च पारिजातैस् तथार्जुनैः
With kapittha and karṇikāra trees, pāṭala, ashoka, campaka, pomegranate, tamāla, pārijāta, and arjuna trees as well.
प्राचीनामलकैर् बिल्वैः प्रियङ्गुवटखादिरैः इङ्गुदीसप्तपर्णैश् च अश्वत्थागस्त्यजम्बुकैः
With prācīna amalaka, bilva, priyangu, vaṭa, khadira, iṅgudī, saptaparṇa, aśvattha, agastya, and jambuka trees.
मधुकैः कर्णिकारैश् च बहुवारैः सतिन्दुकैः पलाशबदरैर् नीपैः सिद्धनिम्बशुभाञ्जनैः
With madhuka and karṇikāra trees, many vāraka and tinduka, palāśa, badara, nīpa, siddha-nimba, and auspicious añjana trees.
वारकैः कोविदारैश् च भल्लातामलकैस् तथा इति हिन्तालकाङ्कोलैः करञ्जैः सविभीतकैः
With vāraka, kovidāra, bhallāta, amalaka, hintāla, aṅkola, karañja, and vibhītaka trees.
ससर्जमधुकाश्मर्यैः शाल्मलीदेवदारुभिः शाखोठकैर् निम्बवटैः कुम्भीकौष्ठहरीतकैः
With sasarja, madhuka, āśmarī, shālmalī, devadāru, shākhoṭaka, nimba, vaṭa, kumbhī, kauṣṭha, and harītaka trees.
गुग्गुलैश् चन्दनैर् वृक्षैस् तथैवागुरुपाटलैः जम्बीरकरुणैर् वृक्षैस् तिन्तिडीरक्तचन्दनैः
With guggulu, sandalwood, and other trees such as aguru and pāṭala, jambīra, karuṇa, tintiḍī, and red sandalwood.
एवं नानाविधैर् वृक्षैस् तथान्यैर् बहुपादपैः कल्पद्रुमैर् नित्यफलैः सर्वर्तुकुसुमोत्करैः
Thus, with various kinds of trees and many other plants, with wish-fulfilling trees bearing fruit at all times and masses of flowers in every season.
नानापक्षिरुतैर् दिव्यैर् मत्तकोकिलनादितैः मयूरवरसंघुष्टैः शुकसारिकसंकुलैः
With many kinds of divine birds, resounding with the songs of intoxicated cuckoos, filled with flocks of splendid peacocks and crowded with parrots and mynas.
हारीतैर् भृङ्गराजैश् च चातकैर् बहुपुत्रकैः जीवंजीवककाकोलैः कलविङ्कैः कपोतकैः
With hāritas, bhṛṅgarājas, cātakas, bahuputras, jīvaṃjīvas, kākolas, kalaviṅkas, and doves.
खगैर् नानाविधैश् चान्यैः श्रोत्ररम्यैर् मनोहरैः पुष्पिताग्रेषु वृक्षेषु कूजद्भिश् चार्वधिष्ठितैः
With many other kinds of birds, charming and delightful to the ear, perched beautifully on the blossoming branches of the trees, singing sweetly.
केतकीवनखण्डैश् च सदा पुष्पधरैः सितैः मल्लिकाकुन्दकुसुमैर् यूथिकातगरैस् तथा
With clusters of ketakī groves always bearing white blossoms, with mallikā, kundakusuma, yūthikā, and tagara flowers as well.
कुटजैर् बाणपुष्पैश् च अतिमुक्तैः सकुब्जकैः मालतीकरवीरैश् च तथा कदलकाञ्चनैः
With kuṭaja and bāṇapuṣpa, atimukta and kubjaka, mālatī and karavīra, and golden banana plants.
अन्यैर् नानाविधैः पुष्पैः सुगन्धैश् चारुदर्शनैः वनोद्यानोपवनजैर् नानावर्णैः सुगन्धिभिः
With many other kinds of flowers, fragrant and beautiful to behold, from forests, gardens, and groves, of various colors and scents.
विद्याधरगणाकीर्णैः सिद्धचारणसेवितैः गन्धर्वोरगरक्षोभिर् भूताप्सरसकिंनरैः
Filled with hosts of vidyādharas, attended by siddhas and cāraṇas, with gandharvas, serpents, rākṣasas, spirits, apsarases, and kinnaras.
मुनियक्षगणाकीर्णैर् नानासत्त्वनिषेवितैः मृगैः शाखामृगैः सिंहैर् वराहमहिषाकुलैः
Filled with hosts of sages and yakṣas, frequented by various creatures, with deer, tree-dwelling animals, lions, and teeming with boars and buffaloes.
तथान्यैः कृष्णसाराद्यैर् मृगैः सर्वत्र शोभितैः शार्दूलैर् दीप्तमातङ्गैस् तथान्यैर् वनचारिभिः
Likewise adorned everywhere with other animals such as black antelopes and others, with tigers, radiant elephants, and other forest-dwelling beasts.
एवं नानाविधैर् वृक्षैर् उद्यानैर् नन्दनोपमैः लतागुल्मवितानैश् च विविधैश् च जलाशयैः
Thus, with trees of many kinds, with gardens like Nandana, with bowers of vines and shrubs, and with various reservoirs of water.
हंसकारण्डवाकीर्णैः पद्मिनीखण्डमण्डितैः कादम्बैश् च प्लवैर् हंसैश् चक्रवाकोपशोभितैः
Adorned with flocks of swans and kāraṇḍava ducks, with clusters of lotus ponds, with kadamba birds, diving birds, swans, and beautified by cakravāka ducks.
कमलैः शतपत्त्रैश् च कह्लारैः कुमुदोत्पलैः खगैर् जलचरैश् चान्यैः पुष्पैर् जलसमुद्भवैः
With lotuses, hundred-petaled lotuses, blue lotuses, water lilies, and other aquatic birds, as well as flowers born from the water.
पर्वतैर् दीप्तशिखरैश् चारुकन्दरमण्डितैः नानावृक्षसमाकीर्णैर् नानाधातुविभूषितैः
With mountains of blazing peaks, adorned with beautiful caves, crowded with various trees, and embellished with many kinds of minerals.
सर्वाश्चर्यमयैः शृङ्गैः सर्वभूतालयैः शुभैः सर्वौषधिसमायुक्तैर् विपुलैश् चित्रसानुभिः
With all-wondrous summits, auspicious abodes of all beings, endowed with every medicinal herb, and with broad, variegated slopes.
एवं सर्वैः समुदितैः शोभितं सुमनोहरैः ददर्श स महीपालः स्थानं त्रैलोक्यपूजितम्
Thus, adorned with all these delightful and splendid features, that king beheld the place revered by the three worlds.
दशयोजनविस्तीर्णं पञ्चयोजनम् आयतम् नानाश्चर्यसमायुक्तं क्षेत्रं परमदुर्लभम्
Spanning ten yojanas in breadth and five yojanas in length, a field endowed with many marvels, supremely difficult to attain.
तस्मिन् क्षेत्रवरे पुण्ये वैष्णवे पुरुषोत्तमे किं तत्र प्रतिमा पूर्वं न स्थिता वैष्णवी प्रभो
In that excellent, sacred, Vaiṣṇava, and supreme field, O Lord, why was there previously no Vaiṣṇava image established there?
येनासौ नृपतिस् तत्र गत्वा सबलवाहनः स्थापयाम् आस कृष्णं च रामं भद्रां शुभप्रदाम्
For what reason did that king, having gone there with his army and vehicles, establish Kṛṣṇa, Rāma, and the auspicious Bhadrā?
संशयो नो महान् अत्र विस्मयश् च जगत्पते श्रोतुम् इच्छामहे सर्वं ब्रूहि तत्कारणं च नः
A great doubt and wonder arise for us here, O Lord of the world; we wish to hear everything—tell us also the reason for this.
शृणुध्वं पूर्वसंवृत्तां कथां पापप्रणाशिनीम् प्रवक्ष्यामि समासेन श्रिया पृष्टः पुरा हरिः
Hear now the ancient tale that destroys sin; I shall briefly recount it, as once told by Hari when questioned by Śrī.
सुमेरोः काञ्चने शृङ्गे सर्वाश्चर्यसमन्विते सिद्धविद्याधरैर् यक्षैः किंनरैर् उपशोभिते
On the golden peak of Mount Sumeru, filled with every marvel, adorned by siddhas, vidyādharas, yakṣas, and kinnaras.
