अन्याश् च तत्र दृश्यन्ते गुणाचार्याः कुलस्त्रियः पतिव्रताश् च सुभगा गुणैः सर्वैर् अलंकृताः
Others are seen there as teachers of virtue, noble women of good families, devoted to their husbands, adorned with every excellence.
वनैश् चोपवनैः पुण्यैर् उद्यानैश् च मनोरमैः देवतायतनैर् दिव्यैर् नानाकुसुमशोभितैः
There are sacred forests and groves, delightful gardens, and divine temples, all adorned with various kinds of flowers.
शालैस् तालैस् तमालैश् च बकुलैर् नागकेसरैः पिप्पलैः कर्णिकारैश् च चन्दनागुरुचम्पकैः
With shala, tala, tamala, bakula, nagakesara, pippala, karnikara, sandalwood, aguru, and champaka trees.
पुंनागैर् नारिकेरैश् च पनसैः सरलद्रुमैः नारङ्गैर् लकुचैर् लोध्रैः सप्तपर्णैः शुभाञ्जनैः
With puṇnāga, coconut, jackfruit, and pine trees, orange, lakucha, lodhra, saptaparṇa, and auspicious anjana trees.
चूतबिल्वकदम्बैश् च शिंशपैर् धवखादिरैः पाटलाशोकतगरैः करवीरैः सितेतरैः
With mango, bilva, kadamba, shimshapa, dhava, khadira, patala, ashoka, tagara, and white and other kinds of karavira trees.
पीतार्जुनकभल्लातैः सिद्धैर् आम्रातकैस् तथा न्यग्रोधाश्वत्थकाश्मर्यैः पलाशैर् देवदारुभिः
With yellow arjuna, bhallataka, siddha, amrataka, as well as banyan, sacred fig, kashmarya, palasha, and deodar trees.
मन्दारैः पारिजातैश् च तिन्तिडीकविभीतकैः प्राचीनामलकैः प्लक्षैर् जम्बूशिरीषपादपैः
With mandara, parijata, tamarind, vibhitaka, prachina amalaki, plaksha, jambu, and shirisha trees.
कालेयैः काञ्चनारैश् च मधुजम्बीरतिन्दुकैः खर्जूरागस्त्यबकुलैः शाखोटकहरीतकैः
With kaleya, kanchanara, madhu-jambira, tinduka, date, agastya, bakula, shakotaka, and haritaka trees.
कङ्कोलैर् मुचुकुन्दैश् च हिन्तालैर् बीजपूरकैः केतकीवनखण्डैश् च अतिमुक्तैः सकुब्जकैः
With kankola, mucukunda, hintala, bijapura, and clusters of ketaki groves, along with atimukta and kubjaka trees,
मल्लिकाकुन्दबाणैश् च कदलीखण्डमण्डितैः मातुलुङ्गैः पूगफलैः करुणैः सिन्धुवारकैः
With jasmine, kundabana, and adorned with clusters of banana trees, with matulunga, areca nuts, karuna, and sindhuvara fruits,
बहुवारैः कोविदारैर् बदरैः सकरञ्जकैः अन्यैश् च विविधैः पुष्पवृक्षैश् चान्यैर् मनोहरैः
With bahuvara, kovidara, badara, and karañjaka trees, and many other various flowering trees, all delightful to behold,
लतागुल्मैर् वितानैश् च उद्यानैर् नन्दनोपमैः सदा कुसुमगन्धाढ्यैः सदा फलभरानतैः
With creepers, shrubs, canopies, and gardens like Nandana, always rich in the fragrance of flowers and always bowed with the weight of fruit,
नानापक्षिरुतै रम्यैर् नानामृगगणावृतैः चकोरैः शतपत्त्रैश् च भृङ्गारैः प्रियपुत्रकैः
Charming with the calls of various birds and filled with many kinds of animals—chakoras, lotuses, bumblebees, and priyaputras,
कलविङ्कैर् मयूरैश् च शुकैः कोकिलकैस् तथा कपोतैः खञ्जरीटैश् च श्येनैः पारावतैस् तथा
With kalavinka birds, peacocks, parrots, and also cuckoos, pigeons, khanjariṭa birds, hawks, and doves,
खगैश् चान्यैर् बहुविधैः श्रोत्ररम्यैर् मनोरमैः सरितः पुष्करिण्यश् च सरांसि सुबहूनि च
With many other kinds of birds, delightful and pleasing to the ear, and with rivers, lotus ponds, and many lakes,
अन्यैर् जलाशयैः पुण्यैः कुमुदोत्पलमण्डितैः पद्मैः सितेतरैः शुभ्रैः कह्लारैश् च सुगन्धिभिः
With other sacred bodies of water, adorned with kumuda and utpala lotuses, with white and other colored lotuses, and fragrant kahlaras,
अन्यैर् बहुविधैः पुष्पैर् जलजैः सुमनोहरैः गन्धामोदकरैर् दिव्यैः सर्वर्तुकुसुमोज्ज्वलैः
With many other kinds of flowers, aquatic and exceedingly delightful, with divine, fragrant, and aromatic blossoms, radiant in every season,
हंसकारण्डवाकीर्णैश् चक्रवाकोपशोभितैः सारसैश् च बलाकैश् च कूर्मैर् मत्स्यैः सनक्रकैः
Filled with swans and karandavas, beautified by chakravakas, with sarasa cranes and balaka herons, and with turtles, fish, and crocodiles,
जलपादैः कदम्बैश् च प्लवैश् च जलकुक्कुटैः खगैर् जलचरैश् चान्यैर् नानारवविभूषितैः
With waterfowl, kadamba birds, divers, water-cocks, and other aquatic birds and creatures, adorned with a variety of sounds,
नानावर्णैः सदा हृष्टैर् अञ्चितानि समन्ततः एवं नानाविधैः पुष्पैर् विविधैश् च जलाशयैः
Always adorned on all sides with birds of many colors, ever joyful, and thus with many kinds of flowers and various bodies of water,
विविधैः पादपैः पुण्यैर् उद्यानैर् विविधैस् तथा जलस्थलचरैश् चैव विहगैश् चार्वधिष्ठितैः
With various auspicious trees, diverse gardens, and birds and animals dwelling both on land and in water,
देवतायतनैर् दिव्यैः शोभिता सा महापुरी तत्रास्ते भगवान् देवस् त्रिपुरारिस् त्रिलोचनः
That great city is adorned with divine temples of the gods; there dwells the blessed god, the enemy of Tripura, the three-eyed one.
महाकालेति विख्यातः सर्वकामप्रदः शिवः शिवकुण्डे नरः स्नात्वा विधिवत् पापनाशने
He is renowned as Mahakala, the bestower of all desires, Shiva. Bathing properly in the Shiva-kunda, the destroyer of sins,
देवान् पितॄन् ऋषींश् चैव संतर्प्य विधिवद् बुधः गत्वा शिवालयं पश्चात् कृत्वा तं त्रिः प्रदक्षिणम्
After duly satisfying the gods, ancestors, and sages, the wise one, having gone to the temple of Shiva, should circumambulate it three times.
प्रविश्य संयतो भूत्वा धौतवासा जितेन्द्रियः स्नानैः पुष्पैस् तथा गन्धैर् धूपैर् दीपैश् च भक्तितः
Entering, self-controlled, wearing clean garments, with senses subdued, he should worship with baths, flowers, fragrances, incense, and lamps, with devotion.
नैवेद्यैर् उपहारैश् च गीतवाद्यैः प्रदक्षिणैः दण्डवत्प्रणिपातैश् च नृत्यैः स्तोत्रैश् च शंकरम्
With offerings of food, gifts, songs, music, circumambulations, prostrations, dances, and hymns, he should worship Shankara.
संपूज्य विधिवद् भक्त्या महाकालं सकृच् छिवम् अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य फलं प्राप्नोति मानवः
Having worshipped Mahākāla, who is Śiva, with proper rites and devotion even once, a person attains the fruit of a thousand horse sacrifices.
पापैः सर्वैर् विनिर्मुक्तो विमानैः सार्वकामिकैः आरुह्य त्रिदिवं याति यत्र शंभोर् निकेतनम्
Freed from all sins, ascending celestial vehicles that fulfill every desire, he goes to the third heaven, where the abode of Śambhu is.
दिव्यरूपधरः श्रीमान् दिव्यालंकारभूषितः भुङ्क्ते तत्र वरान् भोगान् यावद् आभूतसंप्लवम्
Assuming a divine form, adorned with celestial ornaments, he enjoys excellent pleasures there until the end of the cosmic cycle.
शिवलोके मुनिश्रेष्ठा जरामरणवर्जितः पुण्यक्षयाद् इहायातः प्रवरे ब्राह्मणे कुले
In the world of Śiva, O best of sages, free from old age and death, when his merit is exhausted, he is born here in the highest family of Brāhmaṇas.
