नारी वा द्विजशार्दूलाः संपूज्य श्रद्धयान्विता पूर्वोक्तं फलम् आप्नोति नात्र कार्या विचारणा
O best of twice-born, even a woman, if she worships with faith, attains the previously described fruit; there is no doubt about this.
कः शक्नोति गुणान् वक्तुं समग्रान् मुनिसत्तमाः तस्य क्षेत्रवरस्याथ ऋते देवान् महेश्वरात्
Who is able to recount all the virtues of that supreme field, O foremost sages, except for the gods and Maheshvara?
तस्मिन् क्षेत्रोत्तमे गत्वा श्रद्धयाश्रद्धयापि वा माधवादिषु मासेषु नरो वा यदि वाङ्गना
Whoever, man or woman, goes to that excellent field, whether with faith or without, during the months beginning with Madhava—
यस्मिन् यस्मिंस् तिथौ विप्राः स्नात्वा बिन्दुसरोम्भसि पश्येद् देवं विरूपाक्षं देवीं च वरदां शिवाम्
On whatever lunar day, O Brahmins, one bathes in the water of the Bindusaras and beholds the god Virupaksha and the goddess Shiva, the granter of boons—
गणं चण्डं कार्त्तिकेयं गणेशं वृषभं तथा कल्पद्रुमं च सावित्रीं शिवलोकं स गच्छति
—and beholds Chanda among the hosts, Karttikeya, Ganesha, the bull, the wish-fulfilling tree, Savitri—he attains the world of Shiva.
स्नात्वा च कापिले तीर्थे विधिवत् पापनाशने प्राप्नोत्य् अभिमतान् कामाञ् शिवलोकं स गच्छति
Having bathed properly at the Kapila ford, the destroyer of sins, one attains the desired wishes and goes to the world of Shiva.
यः स्तम्भ्यं तत्र विधिवत् करोति नियतेन्द्रियः कुलैकविंशम् उद्धृत्य शिवलोकं स गच्छति
Whoever establishes a pillar there according to the proper rite, with controlled senses, uplifts twenty-one generations of his lineage and goes to the world of Shiva.
एकाम्रके शिवक्षेत्रे वाराणसीसमे शुभे स्नानं करोति यस् तत्र मोक्षं स लभते ध्रुवम्
Whoever bathes there at Ekamra, the auspicious field of Shiva, equal to Varanasi, surely attains liberation.
विरजे विरजा माता ब्रह्माणी संप्रतिष्ठिता यस्याः संदर्शनान् मर्त्यः पुनात्य् आसप्तमं कुलम्
Viraja, the mother Viraja, established as Brahmani—by seeing her, a mortal purifies his lineage up to the seventh generation.
सकृद् दृष्ट्वा तु तां देवीं भक्त्यापूज्य प्रणम्य च नरः स्ववंशम् उद्धृत्य मम लोकं स गच्छति
Having seen that goddess even once, worshipped her with devotion and bowed, a man uplifts his own lineage and goes to my world.
अन्याश् च तत्र तिष्ठन्ति विरजे लोकमातरः सर्वपापहरा देव्यो वरदा भक्तिवत्सलाः
Other mothers of the worlds also reside there at Viraja—goddesses who remove all sins, granters of boons, fond of devotion.
आस्ते वैतरणी तत्र सर्वपापहरा नदी यस्यां स्नात्वा नरश्रेष्ठः सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
There flows the river Vaitarani, remover of all sins; by bathing in her, O best of men, one is freed from all sins.
आस्ते स्वयंभूस् तत्रैव क्रोडरूपी हरिः स्वयम् दृष्ट्वा प्रणम्य तं भक्त्या परं विष्णुं व्रजन्ति ते
There, the self-born Hari himself abides in the form of a boar; seeing him and bowing with devotion, they attain the supreme Vishnu.
कापिले गोग्रहे सोमे तीर्थे चालाबुसंज्ञिते मृत्युंजये क्रोडतीर्थे वासुके सिद्धकेश्वरे
At Kapila, Gograha, Soma, the ford called Alabu, Mrityunjaya, Krodhatirtha, Vasuki, and Siddhakeshvara—
तीर्थेष्व् एतेषु मतिमान् विरजे संयतेन्द्रियः गत्वाष्टतीर्थं विधिवत् स्नात्वा देवान् प्रणम्य च
Whoever, self-controlled and resolute, goes to these eight fords at Viraja, bathes there according to the rite, and bows to the gods—
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो विमानवरम् आस्थितः उपगीयमानो गन्धर्वैर् मम लोके महीयते
Freed from all sins, mounted on a splendid celestial car, praised by Gandharvas, he is honored in my world.
विरजे यो मम क्षेत्रे पिण्डदानं करोति वै स करोत्य् अक्षयां तृप्तिं पितॄणां नात्र संशयः
Whoever offers the ancestral cake at Viraja, my field, surely grants inexhaustible satisfaction to the ancestors; there is no doubt.
मम क्षेत्रे मुनिश्रेष्ठा विरजे ये कलेवरम् परित्यजन्ति पुरुषास् ते मोक्षं प्राप्नुवन्ति वै
O best of sages, those men who, at Viraja, my field, abandon their bodies, truly attain liberation.
स्नात्वा यः सागरे मर्त्यो दृष्ट्वा च कपिलं हरिम् पश्येद् देवीं च वाराहीं स याति त्रिदशालयम्
Whoever, after bathing in the ocean, sees Kapila and Hari, and beholds the goddess Varahi, that mortal attains the abode of the gods.
सन्ति चान्यानि तीर्थानि पुण्यान्य् आयतनानि च तत्काले तु मुनिश्रेष्ठा वेदितव्यानि तानि वै
There are also other sacred fords and holy shrines; at that time, O best of sages, those should indeed be known.
समुद्रस्योत्तरे तीरे तस्मिन् देशे द्विजोत्तमाः आस्ते गुह्यं परं क्षेत्रं मुक्तिदं पापनाशनम्
On the northern shore of the ocean, in that land, O best of twice-born, lies a secret supreme field, granting liberation and destroying sin.
सर्वत्र वालुकाकीर्णं पवित्रं सर्वकामदम् दशयोजनविस्तीर्णं क्षेत्रं परमदुर्लभम्
Everywhere covered with sand, pure, fulfilling all desires, this field, ten yojanas wide, is extremely rare.
अशोकार्जुनपुंनागैर् बकुलैः सरलद्रुमैः पनसैर् नारिकेलैश् च शालैस् तालैः कपित्थकैः
It is adorned with ashoka, arjuna, punnaga, bakula, sal, sarala, jackfruit, coconut, shala, palmyra, and kapittha trees.
चम्पकैः कर्णिकारैश् च चूतबिल्वैः सपाटलैः कदम्बैः कोविदारैश् च लकुचैर् नागकेसरैः
With champaka, karnikara, mango, bilva, patala, kadamba, kovidara, lakucha, and nagakesara trees.
प्राचीनामलकैर् लोध्रैर् नारङ्गैर् धवखादिरैः सर्जभूर्जाश्वकर्णैश् च तमालैर् देवदारुभिः
With prachinamalaka, lodhra, orange, dhava, khadira, sarja, bhurja, ashvakarna, tamala, and devadaru trees.
मन्दारैः पारिजातैश् च न्यग्रोधागुरुचन्दनैः खर्जूराम्रातकैः सिद्धैर् मुचुकुन्दैः सकिंशुकैः
With mandara, parijata, banyan, aguru, sandalwood, date, amrataka, siddha, mucukunda, and kimshuka trees.
अश्वत्थैः सप्तपर्णैश् च मधुधारशुभाञ्जनैः शिंशपामलकैर् नीपैर् निम्बतिन्दुविभीतकैः
With asvattha, saptaparni, madhudhara, shubhanjana, shimshapa, amalaka, nipa, nimba, tinduka, and vibhitaka trees.
सर्वर्तुफलगन्धाढ्यैः सर्वर्तुकुसुमोज्ज्वलैः मनोह्लादकरैः शुभ्रैर् नानाविहगनादितैः
Rich with fruits and fragrances of all seasons, bright with flowers of every season, delightful to the mind, pure, and resounding with the calls of various birds.
श्रोत्ररम्यैः सुमधुरैर् बलनिर्मदनेरितैः मनसः प्रीतिजनकैः शब्दैः खगमुखेरितैः
With sounds charming to the ear, very sweet, produced by strong and intoxicated birds, pleasing to the mind, and uttered by the mouths of birds.
चकोरैः शतपत्त्रैश् च भृङ्गराजैस् तथा शुकैः कोकिलैः कलविङ्कैश् च हारीतैर् जीवजीवकैः
With chakoras, lotuses, bhringarajas, parrots, cuckoos, kalavinkas, haritas, and jivajivakas.
