तथैवम् अब्रवीद् वाक्यं त्रैलोक्याधिपतिर् भवः कृत्वाश्वासकरं वाक्यं सर्वज्ञो वाक्यसंहितम्
Thus spoke Bhava, the lord of the three worlds, uttering words that brought reassurance, words full of wisdom.
दक्ष दुःखं न कर्तव्यं यज्ञविध्वंसनं प्रति अहं यज्ञहनस् तुभ्यं दृष्टम् एतत् पुरानघ
Daksha, you should not grieve regarding the destruction of the sacrifice; I am the destroyer of the sacrifice, and you have witnessed this before, O sinless one.
भूयश् च त्वं वरम् इमं मत्तो गृह्णीष्व सुव्रत प्रसन्नसुमुखो भूत्वा ममैकाग्रमनाः शृणु
Again, O virtuous one, receive this boon from me; with a gracious and smiling face, being single-minded, listen to me.
अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य वाजपेयशतस्य वै प्रजापते मत्प्रसादात् फलभागी भविष्यसि
By my favor, O lord of creatures, you shall obtain the fruit of a thousand horse sacrifices and a hundred Vājapeya sacrifices.
वेदान् षडङ्गान् बुध्यस्व सांख्ययोगांश् च कृत्स्नशः तपश् च विपुलं तप्त्वा दुश्चरं देवदानवैः
Master the Vedas with their six limbs, and all the branches of Sāṃkhya and Yoga; having performed great austerity, difficult even for gods and demons.
अब्दैर् द्वादशभिर् युक्तं गूढम् अप्रज्ञनिन्दितम् वर्णाश्रमकृतैर् धर्मैर् विनीतं न क्वचित् क्वचित्
With twelve years, hidden and criticized by the ignorant, governed by duties of caste and stage of life, disciplined, never here or there.
समागतं व्यवसितं पशुपाशविमोक्षणम् सर्वेषाम् आश्रमाणां च मया पाशुपतं व्रतम्
The Pāśupata vow, for the liberation from the bonds of animals, has been established by me for all the stages of life, gathered and resolved.
उत्पादितं दक्ष शुभं सर्वपापविमोचनम् अस्य चीर्णस्य यत् सम्यक् फलं भवति पुष्कलम् तच् चास्तु सुमहाभाग मानसस् त्यज्यतां ज्वरः
Daksha, this auspicious vow has been instituted, freeing from all sins; whatever abundant fruit arises from its proper observance, let that be yours, O greatly fortunate one; let your mind abandon distress.
एवम् उक्त्वा तु देवेशः सपत्नीकः सहानुगः अदर्शनम् अनुप्राप्तो दक्षस्यामिततेजसः
Having spoken thus, the Lord of the gods, with his wife and attendants, became invisible to Daksha, of immeasurable splendor.
अवाप्य च तथा भागं यथोक्तं चोमया भवः ज्वरं च सर्वधर्मज्ञो बहुधा व्यभजत् तदा
Having obtained the share as declared by me, Bhava, the knower of all dharmas, then distributed the fever in many ways.
शान्त्यर्थं सर्वभूतानां शृणुध्वम् अथ वै द्विजाः शिखाभितापो नागानां पर्वतानां शिलाजतु
For the peace of all beings, listen, O twice-born; the heat of the crest is for serpents, mountain rocks, and shilajatu.
अपां तु नीलिकां विद्यान् निर्मोको भुजगेषु च खोरकः सौरभेयाणाम् ऊखरः पृथिवीतले
Know that nīlikā is for waters, nirmoka for serpents, khoraka for saurabheyas, and ūkhara for the earth.
शुनाम् अपि च धर्मज्ञा दृष्टिप्रत्यवरोधनम् रन्ध्रागतम् अथाश्वानां शिखोद्भेदश् च बर्हिणाम्
Even among dogs, those who know dharma have their vision obstructed; among horses, it is said to be a flaw entering through the nostrils; among peacocks, it is the splitting of the crest.
नेत्ररागः कोकिलानां द्वेषः प्रोक्तो महात्मनाम् जनानाम् अपि भेदश् च सर्वेषाम् इति नः श्रुतम्
Among cuckoos, redness of the eyes is spoken of; among great souls, it is aversion; among people, division is also heard of among all, thus we have been told.
शुकानाम् अपि सर्वेषां हिक्किका प्रोच्यते ज्वरः शार्दूलेष्व् अथ वै विप्राः श्रमो ज्वर इहोच्यते
Among all parrots, hiccup is said to occur; fever is spoken of among tigers, O sages; among them, fatigue and fever are mentioned here.
मानुषेषु च सर्वज्ञा ज्वरो नामैष कीर्तितः मरणे जन्मनि तथा मध्ये चापि निवेशितः
Among humans, O all-knowing ones, this fever is named and described; it is present at death, at birth, and also established in the midst of life.
एतन् माहेश्वरं तेजो ज्वरो नाम सुदारुणः नमस्यश् चैव मान्यश् च सर्वप्राणिभिर् ईश्वरः
This is the mighty energy of Maheśvara, called fever, exceedingly fierce; he is to be worshipped and honored by all living beings, for he is the Lord.
इमां ज्वरोत्पत्तिम् अदीनमानसः पठेत् सदा यः सुसमाहितो नरः विमुक्तरोगः स नरो मुदायुतो लभेत कामांश् च यथामनीषितान्
Whoever, with unwavering mind, always recites this origin of fever with concentration, that man becomes free from disease, attains happiness, and obtains all desired objects as he wishes.
दक्षप्रोक्तं स्तवं चापि कीर्तयेद् यः शृणोति वा नाशुभं प्राप्नुयात् किंचिद् दीर्घम् आयुर् अवाप्नुयात्
Whoever praises or hears this hymn spoken by Dakṣa does not encounter anything inauspicious and attains long life.
यथा सर्वेषु देवेषु वरिष्ठो भगवान् भवः तथा स्तवो वरिष्ठो ऽयं स्तवानां दक्षनिर्मितः
Just as among all the gods, the blessed Bhava is supreme, so too is this hymn, created by Dakṣa, the foremost among hymns.
यशःस्वर्गसुरैश्वर्यवित्तादिजयकाङ्क्षिभिः स्तोतव्यो भक्तिम् आस्थाय विद्याकामैश् च यत्नतः
Those desiring fame, heaven, sovereignty, wealth, and victory should recite it with devotion; those wishing for knowledge should do so with effort.
व्याधितो दुःखितो दीनो नरो ग्रस्तो भयादिभिः राजकार्यनियुक्तो वा मुच्यते महतो भयात्
A man afflicted by disease, suffering, poverty, or seized by fear, or engaged in royal duties, is freed from great fear.
अनेनैव च देहेन गणानां च महेश्वरात् इह लोके सुखं प्राप्य गणराड् उपजायते
With this very body, having received happiness in this world from Maheśvara and the Gaṇas, one becomes the lord of the Gaṇas.
न यक्षा न पिशाचा वा न नागा न विनायकाः कुर्युर् विघ्नं गृहे तस्य यत्र संस्तूयते भवः
Neither Yakṣas nor Piśācas, nor Nāgas nor Vināyakas cause obstacles in the house where Bhava is praised.
शृणुयाद् वा इदं नारी भक्त्याथ भवभाविता पितृपक्षे भर्तृपक्षे पूज्या भवति चैव ह
If a woman hears this with devotion and is absorbed in Bhava, she becomes honored in both her father's and husband's families.
शृणुयाद् वा इदं सर्वं कीर्तयेद् वाप्य् अभीक्ष्णशः तस्य सर्वाणि कार्याणि सिद्धिं गच्छन्त्य् अविघ्नतः
Whoever hears or repeatedly recites all this, all his undertakings succeed without obstacles.
मनसा चिन्तितं यच् च यच् च वाचाप्य् उदाहृतम् सर्वं संपद्यते तस्य स्तवस्यास्यानुकीर्तनात्
Whatever is thought in the mind or uttered by speech, all is accomplished for him by the repeated recitation of this hymn.
देवस्य सगुहस्याथ देव्या नन्दीश्वरस्य च बलिं विभजतः कृत्वा दमेन नियमेन च
Having offered oblations to the god Saguha, the goddess, and Nandīśvara, with self-restraint and discipline,
ततः प्रयुक्तो गृह्णीयान् नामान्य् आशु यथाक्रमम् ईप्सितांल् लभते ऽप्य् अर्थान् कामान् भोगांश् च मानवः
Then, having performed the rite, one should quickly take their names in order; a person obtains desired wealth, pleasures, and enjoyments.
मृतश् च स्वर्गम् आप्नोति स्त्रीसहस्रसमावृतः सर्वकामसुयुक्तो वा युक्तो वा सर्वपातकैः
One who dies attains heaven, surrounded by a thousand women, endowed with all desired pleasures, even if associated with all sins.
