विकालश् च सुकालश् च दुष्कालः कालनाशनः मृत्युश् चैवाक्षयो ऽन्तश् च क्षमामायाकरोत्करः
He is untimely, timely, and adverse time; destroyer of time; death, imperishable, end, and the uprooter of earth and illusion.
संवर्तो वर्तकश् चैव संवर्तकबलाहकौ घण्टाकी घण्टकी घण्टी चूडालो लवणोदधिः
He is Samvarta and Vartaka, the Samvartaka and Balāhaka clouds, Ghantaki, Ghantaki, Ghanti, Chudala, and the salt ocean.
ब्रह्मा कालाग्निवक्त्रश् च दण्डी मुण्डस् त्रिदण्डधृक् चतुर्युगश् चतुर्वेदश् चतुर्होत्रश् चतुष्पथः
He is Brahma, with the face of time-fire, holding a staff, shaven-headed, bearer of three staffs, the four ages, the four Vedas, the four sacrifices, and the four paths.
चातुराश्रम्यनेता च चातुर्वर्ण्यकरश् च ह क्षराक्षरः प्रियो धूर्तो गणैर् गण्यो गणाधिपः
Leader of the four stages of life, creator of the four castes, perishable and imperishable, beloved, clever, counted among groups, leader of groups.
रक्तमाल्याम्बरधरो गिरीशो गिरिजाप्रियः शिल्पीशः शिल्पिनः श्रेष्ठः सर्वशिल्पिप्रवर्तकः
Wearing red garlands and garments, lord of the mountains, beloved of the mountain-born, lord of artisans, best among artisans, originator of all crafts.
भगनेत्रान्तकश् चण्डः पूष्णो दन्तविनाशनः स्वाहा स्वधा वषट्कारो नमस्कार नमो ऽस्तु ते
Destroyer of Bhaga's eye, fierce, destroyer of Pūṣan's teeth, Svāhā, Svadhā, utterer of vaṣaṭ, salutation, homage to you.
गूढव्रतश् च गूढश् च गूढव्रतनिषेवितः तरणस् तारणश् चैव सर्वभूतेषु तारणः
He is hidden in vows, hidden, served by those with hidden vows, the savior, the one who saves, savior among all beings.
धाता विधाता संधाता निधाता धारणो धरः तपो ब्रह्म च सत्यं च ब्रह्मचर्यं तथार्जवम्
Creator, arranger, uniter, depositor, supporter, bearer; austerity, Brahman, truth, celibacy, and uprightness.
भूतात्मा भूतकृद् भूतो भूतभव्यभवोद्भवः भूर् भुवः स्वरितश् चैव भूतो ह्य् अग्निर् महेश्वरः
Soul of beings, creator of beings, being itself, origin of past, future, and present; earth, atmosphere, heaven, being, fire, and great lord.
ब्रह्मावर्तः सुरावर्तः कामावर्त नमो ऽस्तु ते कामबिम्बविनिर्हन्ता कर्णिकारस्रजप्रियः
Brahmāvarta, Surāvarta, Kāmāvarta, homage to you; destroyer of the image of desire, fond of garlands of karṇikāra flowers.
गोनेता गोप्रचारश् च गोवृषेश्वरवाहनः त्रैलोक्यगोप्ता गोविन्दो गोप्ता गोगर्ग एव च
Leader of cows, moving among cows, lord whose vehicle is the bull, protector of the three worlds, Govinda, protector, and Garga among cows.
अखण्डचन्द्राभिमुखः सुमुखो दुर्मुखो ऽमुखः चतुर्मुखो बहुमुखो रणेष्व् अभिमुखः सदा
Facing the undivided moon, with a beautiful face, a difficult face, a faceless one, four-faced, many-faced, always facing battle.
हिरण्यगर्भः शकुनिर् धनदो ऽर्थपतिर् विराट् अधर्महा महादक्षो दण्डधारो रणप्रियः
Golden womb, bird, giver of wealth, lord of wealth, vast, great unrighteousness, greatly skilled, bearer of the staff, fond of battle.
तिष्ठन् स्थिरश् च स्थाणुश् च निष्कम्पश् च सुनिश्चलः दुर्वारणो दुर्विषहो दुःसहो दुरतिक्रमः
Standing, firm, steadfast, unmoving, well-settled, hard to restrain, hard to endure, difficult to bear, hard to surpass.
दुर्धरो दुर्वशो नित्यो दुर्दर्पो विजयो जयः शशः शशाङ्कनयनशीतोष्णः क्षुत् तृषा जरा
Hard to hold, hard to approach, eternal, hard to subdue, victorious, victory itself; hare, moon-eyed, cold and hot, hunger, thirst, old age.
आधयो व्याधयश् चैव व्याधिहा व्याधिपश् च यः सह्यो यज्ञमृगव्याधो व्याधीनाम् आकरो ऽकरः
Afflictions and diseases, destroyer of disease, lord of disease, enduring, hunter of sacrificial animals, source and non-source of diseases.
शिखण्डी पुण्डरीकश् च पुण्डरीकावलोकनः दण्डधृक् चक्रदण्डश् च रौद्रभागविनाशनः
He is Śikhaṇḍī, Puṇḍarīka, the One who gazes upon the lotus, the bearer of the staff, the one with the discus and staff, and the destroyer of the portion belonging to Rudra.
विषपो ऽमृतपश् चैव सुरापः क्षीरसोमपः मधुपश् चापपश् चैव सर्वपश् च बलाबलः
He is the drinker of poison, the drinker of nectar, the drinker of divine liquor, the drinker of milk and soma, the drinker of honey, the drinker of water, the drinker of everything, strong and weak alike.
वृषाङ्गराम्भो वृषभस् तथा वृषभलोचनः वृषभश् चैव विख्यातो लोकानां लोकसंस्कृतः
He is the one whose limbs are those of a bull, the bull himself, the bull-eyed, and indeed the renowned bull, the purifier of the worlds.
चन्द्रादित्यौ चक्षुषी ते हृदयं च पितामहः अग्निष्टोमस् तथा देहो धर्मकर्मप्रसाधितः
The moon and sun are your eyes, O Ancient One, and the heart is the grandsire; Agniṣṭoma is your body, established by righteous action.
न ब्रह्मा न च गोविन्दः पुराण-ऋषयो न च माहात्म्यं वेदितुं शक्ता याथातथ्येन ते शिव
Neither Brahmā, nor Govinda, nor the ancient seers are able to know your true greatness as it is, O Śiva.
शिवा या मूर्तयः सूक्ष्मास् ते मह्यं यान्तु दर्शनम् ताभिर् मां सर्वतो रक्ष पिता पुत्रम् इवौरसम्
May those subtle forms of Śiva appear before me; by them, protect me on all sides as a father protects his own son.
रक्ष मां रक्षणीयो ऽहं तवानघ नमो ऽस्तु ते भक्तानुकम्पी भगवान् भक्तश् चाहं सदा त्वयि
Protect me, for I am to be protected by you, O faultless one. Salutations to you! The Lord is compassionate to devotees, and I am always devoted to you.
यः सहस्राण्य् अनेकानि पुंसाम् आवृत्य दुर्दृशाम् तिष्ठत्य् एकः समुद्रान्ते स मे गोप्तास्तु नित्यशः
He who, alone, stands at the edge of the ocean, enveloping thousands of beings who are difficult to perceive—may he always be my protector.
यं विनिद्रा जितश्वासाः सत्त्वस्थाः समदर्शिनः ज्योतिः पश्यन्ति युञ्जानास् तस्मै योगात्मने नमः
Salutation to that Lord of Yoga, whom those who are ever wakeful, who have conquered their breath, who are established in purity and see all equally, behold as light while engaged in meditation.
संभक्ष्य सर्वभूतानि युगान्ते समुपस्थिते यः शेते जलमध्यस्थस् तं प्रपद्ये ऽम्बुशायिनम्
At the end of the age, when the time arrives, he consumes all beings and lies in the midst of the waters; I take refuge in that One who rests upon the waters.
प्रविश्य वदनं राहोर् यः सोमं पिबते निशि ग्रसत्य् अर्कं च स्वर्भानुर् भूत्वा सोमाग्निर् एव च
He who, entering the mouth of Rāhu, drinks the moon at night and devours the sun, becoming Svarbhānu, and is indeed the moon and fire.
अङ्गुष्ठमात्राः पुरुषा देहस्थाः सर्वदेहिनाम् रक्षन्तु ते च मां नित्यं नित्यं चाप्याययन्तु माम्
May those persons, the size of a thumb, who dwell in the bodies of all beings, always protect me and ever increase my well-being.
येनाप्य् उत्पादिता गर्भा अपो भागगताश् च ये तेषां स्वाहा स्वधा चैव आप्नुवन्ति स्वदन्ति च
By whom embryos are produced, and who are present in the waters and their portions—may offerings of svāhā and svadhā reach them, and may they enjoy them.
येन रोहन्ति देहस्थाः प्राणिनो रोदयन्ति च हर्षयन्ति न कृष्यन्ति नमस् तेभ्यस् तु नित्यशः
By whom beings dwelling in bodies grow, weep, rejoice, and are not harmed—salutations to them always.
