अथ पर्वतराजो ऽसौ हिमवान् ध्यानकोविदः दुहितुर् देवदेवेन ज्ञात्वा तद् अभिमन्त्रितम्
Then the king of the mountains, Himavat, skilled in meditation, knowing through the god of gods that this was divinely ordained for his daughter, acted accordingly.
जानन्न् अपि महाशैलः समयारक्षणेप्सया स्वयंवरं ततो देव्याः सर्वलोकेष्व् अघोषयत्
Even though the great mountain knew, desiring to uphold the agreement, he proclaimed the self-choice ceremony of the goddess throughout all the worlds.
देवदानवसिद्धानां सर्वलोकनिवासिनाम् वृणुयात् परमेशानं समक्षं यदि मे सुता
Among all the gods, demons, siddhas, and inhabitants of every world, let my daughter choose Parameśāna openly, if she wishes.
तद् एव सुकृतं श्लाघ्यं ममाभ्युदयसंमतम् इति संचिन्त्य शैलेन्द्रः कृत्वा हृदि महेश्वरम्
Thinking, 'This alone is virtuous and praiseworthy, and favored for my prosperity,' the lord of the mountains fixed Maheśvara in his heart.
आब्रह्मकेषु देवेषु देव्याः शैलेन्द्रसत्तमः कृत्वा रत्नाकुलं देशं स्वयंवरम् अचीकरत्
Among all the gods up to Brahmā, the noble lord of the mountains prepared a place adorned with jewels and conducted the self-choice ceremony for the goddess.
अथैवम् आघोषितमात्र एव स्वयंवरे तत्र नगेन्द्रपुत्र्याः देवादयः सर्वजगन्निवासाः समाययुस् तत्र गृहीतवेशाः
As soon as the self-choice ceremony was thus announced, all the gods and residents of the worlds, assuming various forms, gathered there for the mountain princess.
प्रफुल्लपद्मासनसंनिविष्टः सिद्धैर् वृतो योगिभिर् अप्रमेयैः विज्ञापितस् तेन महीध्रराज्ञा आगतस् तदाहं त्रिदिवैर् उपेतः

The son of Kaśyapa, bearing the name Bhaga, came alone from among the Ādityas, his body robust, adorned with auspicious ornaments, possessing radiance, strength, and authority equal to his splendor.
दण्डं समागृह्य कृतान्त आगाद् आरुह्य भीमं महिषं जवेन महामहीध्रोच्छ्रयपीनगात्रः स्वर्णादिरत्नाञ्चितचारुवेशः
Taking up his staff, Kṛtānta arrived, mounting a formidable buffalo with speed; his body was massive like a great mountain, his appearance adorned with gold and precious gems.
समीरणः सर्वजगद्विभर्ता विमानम् आरुह्य समभ्यगाद् धि संतापयन् सर्वसुरासुरेशांस् तेजोधिकस् तेजसि संनिविष्टः
Samīraṇa, the sustainer of all worlds, ascended his palace and approached, overwhelming all lords of gods and demons, his energy greater than theirs, established in brilliance.

Fire approached, blazing among the gods, standing in the midst with a splendid form, his limbs shining with various jewels, his foremost divine palace the best in the worlds.
आरुह्य सर्वद्रविणाधिपेशः स राजराजस् त्वरितो ऽभ्यगाच् च आप्याययन् सर्वसुरासुरेशान् कान्त्या च वेशेन च चारुरूपः
Ascending, the lord of all wealth, king of kings, came swiftly, filling all lords of gods and demons with his radiance and appearance, beautiful in form.
ज्वलन् महारत्नविचित्ररूपं विमानम् आरुह्य शशी समायात् श्यामाङ्गयष्टिः सुविचित्रवेशः सर्वाङ्ग आबद्धसुगन्धिमाल्यः
The moon, shining, arrived mounted upon a palace of wondrous gems, his body dark and splendidly adorned, his whole form wrapped in fragrant garlands.

That great soul, together with other serpents, ascended the celestial vehicle and approached the sons of Diti and the mighty demons, whose radiance equaled fire, sun, Indra, and wind.
वरानुरूपं प्रविधाय वेशं वृन्दं समागात् पुरतः सुराणाम् गन्धर्वराजः स च चारुरूपी दिव्याङ्गदो दिव्यविमानचारी
Adorned in attire befitting their status, the assembly gathered before the gods; the king of Gandharvas, handsome in form, adorned with divine ornaments, moved about in a celestial vehicle.

Gandharvas, Yakshas, serpents, and Kinnaras arrived, ascending the celestial vehicles; amidst the gods, the lord of Shachi shone forth, his form distinguished above all kings.
आज्ञाबलैश्वर्यकृतप्रमोदः स्वयंवरं तं समलंचकार हेतुस् त्रिलोकस्य जगत्प्रसूतेर् माता च तेषां ससुरासुराणाम्
Empowered by command and sovereignty, he joyfully conducted the svayamvara; she, the mother of all worlds and of gods and demons, was the cause of the universe's birth.
पत्नी च शंभोः पुरुषस्य धीमतो गीता पुराणे प्रकृतिः परा या दक्षस्य कोपाद् धिमवद्गृहं सा कार्यार्थमायात् त्रिदिवौकसां हि
She, the wife of Shambhu, the wise Purusha, sung in the Purāṇas as the supreme Prakṛti, who, angered by Daksha, left the wise one's house for the sake of duty, and arrived among the dwellers of heaven.
विमानपृष्ठे मणिहेमजुष्टे स्थिता वलच्चामरवीजिताङ्गी सर्वर्तुपुष्पां सुसुगन्धमालां प्रगृह्य देवी प्रसभं प्रतस्थे
Standing upon the celestial vehicle adorned with jewels and gold, her limbs fanned by waving chowries, she seized a garland of flowers from all seasons, fragrant and beautiful, and the goddess boldly advanced.
मालां प्रगृह्य देव्यां तु स्थितायां देवसंसदि शक्राद्यैर् आगतैर् देवैः स्वयंवर उपागते
Having taken the garland, as the goddess stood in the assembly of gods, with Indra and others present, the svayamvara commenced.
देव्या जिज्ञासया शंभुर् भूत्वा पञ्चशिखः शिशुः उत्सङ्गतलसंसुप्तो बभूव सहसा विभुः
Out of curiosity, Śaṃbhu became a child with five tufts of hair, and suddenly lay asleep in her lap, manifesting his divine power.
ततो ददर्श तं देवी शिशुं पञ्चशिखं स्थितम् ज्ञात्वा तं समवध्यानाज् जगृहे प्रीतिसंयुता
Then the goddess saw that child with five tufts, recognized him as worthy, and joyfully took him up.
अथ सा शुद्धसंकल्पा काङ्क्षितं प्राप्य सत्पतिम् निवृत्ता च तदा तस्थौ कृत्वा सा हृदि तं विभुम्
Then, pure in resolve, having attained her desired husband, she withdrew and remained, holding that Lord in her heart.
ततो दृष्ट्वा शिशुं देवा देव्या उत्सङ्गवर्तिनम् को ऽयम् अत्रेति संमन्त्र्य चुक्रुशुर् भृशमोहिताः
Seeing the child in the goddess's lap, the gods deliberated, 'Who is this here?' and cried out, greatly bewildered.
