स्वर्भानुर् वृषपर्वा च विप्रचित्तिश् च वीर्यवान् सर्व एते दनोः पुत्राः कश्यपाद् अभिजज्ञिरे
Svarbhānu, Vṛṣaparvā, and Vipracitti, strong in valor—all these were sons of Danu, born from Kaśyapa.
विप्रचित्तिप्रधानास् ते दानवाः सुमहाबलाः एतेषां पुत्रपौत्रं तु न तच् छक्यं द्विजोत्तमाः
These Dānavas, led by Vipracitti, were exceedingly powerful; O best of twice-born, their sons and grandsons cannot be enumerated.
प्रसंख्यातुं बहुत्वाच् च पुत्रपौत्रम् अनन्तकम् स्वर्भानोस् तु प्रभा कन्या पुलोम्नस् तु शची सुता
Because of their vast numbers, the sons and grandsons cannot be counted; Prabhā was the daughter of Svarbhānu, and Śacī was the daughter of Pulomā.
उपदीप्तिर् हयशिराः शर्मिष्ठा वार्षपर्वणी पुलोमा कालिका चैव वैश्वानरसुते उभे
Upadīpti, Hayaśirā, Śarmiṣṭhā, Vārṣaparvaṇī, Pulomā, and Kālikā—both were daughters of Vaiśvānaras.
बह्वपत्ये महापत्ये मरीचेस् तु परिग्रहः तयोः पुत्रसहस्राणि षष्टिर् दानवनन्दनाः
With many children and great offspring, Marīci had wives; from them, sixty thousand sons were born, delight of the Dānavas.
चतुर्दशशतान् अन्यान् हिरण्यपुरवासिनः मरीचिर् जनयाम् आस महता तपसान्वितः
Another fourteen hundred residents of Hiraṇyapura were begotten by Marīci, endowed with great austerity.
पौलोमाः कालकेयाश् च दानवास् ते महाबलाः अवध्या देवतानां हि हिरण्यपुरवासिनः
Paulomās and Kālakeyas, those mighty Dānavas, were invincible to the gods—the residents of Hiraṇyapura.
पितामहप्रसादेन ये हताः सव्यसाचिना ततो ऽपरे महावीर्या दानवास् त्व् अतिदारुणाः
By the grace of the Grandfather, those slain by Savyasācin were destroyed; thereafter, other Dānavas of immense strength, exceedingly fierce, remained.
सिंहिकायाम् अथोत्पन्ना विप्रचित्तेः सुतास् तथा दैत्यदानवसंयोगाज् जातास् तीव्रपराक्रमाः
Then, in Simhika, sons were born to Viprachitti; likewise, from the union of Daityas and Danavas, children of fierce valor were produced.
सैंहिकेया इति ख्यातास् त्रयोदश महाबलाः वंश्यः शल्यश् च बलिनौ नलश् चैव तथा बलः
They are known as the Simhikeyas, thirteen in number, mighty in strength: Vamsha, Shalya, the powerful Nala, and also Bala.
वातापिर् नमुचिश् चैव इल्वलः स्वसृमस् तथा अञ्जिको नरकश् चैव कालनाभस् तथैव च
Vātāpi, Namuchi, Ilvala, and his sister, Anjika, Naraka, and Kālanābha likewise.
सरमानस् तथा चैव स्वरकल्पश् च वीर्यवान् एते वै दानवाः श्रेष्ठा दनोर् वंशविवर्धनाः

श्येनी श्येनांस् तथा भासी भासान् गृध्रांश् च गृध्र्य् अपि शुचिर् औदकान् पक्षिगणान् सुग्रीवी तु द्विजोत्तमाः
Śyenī produced hawks, Bhāsī produced herons, Gṛdhrī produced vultures; Śuci gave rise to aquatic birds, and Sugrīvī to the best of twice-born birds.
अश्वान् उष्ट्रान् गर्दभांश् च ताम्रावंशः प्रकीर्तितः विनतायास् तु द्वौ पुत्रौ विख्यातौ गरुडारुणौ
Horses, camels, and asses are said to belong to Tāmrā's lineage; Vinatā had two renowned sons, Garuḍa and Aruṇa.
गरुडः पततां श्रेष्ठो दारुणः स्वेन कर्मणा सुरसायाः सहस्रं तु सर्पाणाम् अमितौजसाम्
Garuḍa, the foremost among those who fly, fierce in his own deeds; Surasā had a thousand serpents of immense energy.
अनेकशिरसां विप्राः खचराणां महात्मनाम् काद्रवेयास् तु बलिनः सहस्रम् अमितौजसः
O Brahmins, among the Kadru lineage, there were a thousand powerful serpents, many with multiple heads, moving through the sky, possessed of great souls.
सुपर्णवशगा नागा जज्ञिरे नैकमस्तकाः येषां प्रधानाः सततं शेषवासुकितक्षकाः
The Nāgas, subject to Suparṇa, were born with many heads; among them, Śeṣa, Vāsuki, and Takṣaka are always the chief.
ऐरावतो महापद्मः कम्बलाश्वतराव् उभौ एलापत्त्रश् च शङ्खश् च कर्कोटकधनंजयौ
Airāvata, Mahāpadma, both Kambala and Aśvatara, Elāpattra, Śaṅkha, Karkoṭaka, and Dhanaṃjaya.
महानीलमहाकर्णौ धृतराष्ट्रबलाहकौ कुहरः पुष्पदंष्ट्रश् च दुर्मुखः सुमुखस् तथा
Mahānīla, Mahākarṇa, Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Balāhaka, Kuhara, Puṣpadaṃṣṭra, Durmukha, and Sumukha likewise.
शङ्खश् च शङ्खपालश् च कपिलो वामनस् तथा नहुषः शङ्खरोमा च मणिर् इत्य् एवमादयः
Śaṅkha, Śaṅkhapāla, Kapila, Vāmana, Nahuṣa, Śaṅkharoma, and Maṇi—these are the foremost.
तेषां पुत्राश् च पौत्राश् च शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः चतुर्दशसहस्राणि क्रूराणाम् अनिलाशिनाम्
Their sons and grandsons numbered in the hundreds and thousands; fourteen thousand fierce, wind-eating ones.
गणं क्रोधवंशं विप्रास् तस्य सर्वे च दंष्ट्रिणः स्थलजाः पक्षिणो ऽब्जाश् च धरायाः प्रसवाः स्मृताः
O Brahmins, the entire Krodha lineage is composed of those with fangs; terrestrial, avian, and aquatic creatures are remembered as the offspring of the earth.
गास् तु वै जनयाम् आस सुरभिर् महिषीस् तथा इरा वृक्षलता वल्लीस् तृणजातीश् च सर्वशः
Surabhi gave birth to cows, and likewise to buffaloes; Irā produced all kinds of trees, creepers, vines, and grasses.
खसा तु यक्षरक्षांसि मुनिर् अप्सरसस् तथा अरिष्टा तु महासिद्धा गन्धर्वान् अमितौजसः
Khasā gave rise to yakṣas and rākṣasas, and the sage begot apsarases; Ariṣṭā produced the mighty and illustrious gandharvas.
एते कश्यपदायादाः कीर्तिताः स्थाणुजङ्गमाः येषां पुत्राश् च पौत्राश् च शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः
These descendants of Kaśyapa, both stationary and moving beings, have been described, whose sons and grandsons are numbered in the hundreds and thousands.
एष मन्वन्तरे विप्राः सर्गः स्वारोचिषे स्मृतः वैवस्वते ऽतिमहति वारुणे वितते क्रतौ
O brāhmaṇas, this creation in the Svārociṣa Manvantara is remembered; in the vast Vaivasvata and the extended Vāruṇa sacrifices as well.
