तेन वृद्धिं परां नीतः सकलश् चौषधीगणः साधकः फलपाकान्तः प्रजानां तु प्रजायते
By that, the entire group of medicinal plants attains great growth; it is the cause of fruit ripening, and from it, offspring are produced.
तेन यज्ञान् यथाप्रोक्तान् मानवाः शास्त्रचक्षुषः कुर्वते ऽहरहश् चैव देवान् आप्याययन्ति ते
With that, people who see with the eye of scripture perform the prescribed sacrifices daily, and thereby they nourish the gods.
एवं यज्ञाश् च वेदाश् च वर्णाश् च द्विजपूर्वकाः सर्वदेवनिकायाश् च पशुभूतगणाश् च ये
Thus, sacrifices, Vedas, castes beginning with the twice-born, all groups of gods, and the herds of animals and beings—all exist.
वृष्ट्या धृतम् इदं सर्वं जगत् स्थावरजङ्गमम् सापि निष्पाद्यते वृष्टिः सवित्रा मुनिसत्तमाः
This entire world, both immobile and mobile, is sustained by rain; and that rain is produced by Savitṛ, O best of sages.
आधारभूतः सवितुर् ध्रुवो मुनिवरोत्तमाः ध्रुवस्य शिशुमारो ऽसौ सो ऽपि नारायणाश्रयः
Savitṛ is the fixed foundation, O foremost sage; the fixed star is the Śiśumāra, and it too rests upon Nārāyaṇa.
हृदि नारायणस् तस्य शिशुमारस्य संस्थितः विभर्ता सर्वभूतानाम् आदिभूतः सनातनः
Nārāyaṇa abides in the heart of that Śiśumāra; he is the supporter of all beings, the primordial and eternal one.
एवं मया मुनिश्रेष्ठा ब्रह्माण्डं समुदाहृतम् भूसमुद्रादिभिर् युक्तं किम् अन्यच् छ्रोतुम् इच्छथ
Thus, O best of sages, I have described the Brahmāṇḍa, joined with the earth, ocean, and others; what else do you wish to hear?
पृथिव्यां यानि तीर्थानि पुण्यान्य् आयतनानि च वक्तुम् अर्हसि धर्मज्ञ श्रोतुं नो वर्तते मनः
You should speak of the holy tīrthas and sacred places upon the earth, O knower of dharma; our minds desire to hear.
यस्य हस्तौ च पादौ च मनश् चैव सुसंयतम् विद्या तपश् च कीर्तिश् च स तीर्थफलम् अश्नुते
He whose hands, feet, and mind are well restrained, whose learning, austerity, and fame are present, attains the fruit of tīrtha.
मनो विशुद्धं पुरुषस्य तीर्थं वाचां तथा चेन्द्रियनिग्रहश् च एतानि तीर्थानि शरीरजानि स्वर्गस्य मार्गं प्रतिबोधयन्ति
The purified mind of a person, likewise speech and control of the senses—these bodily tīrthas awaken the path to heaven.
चित्तम् अन्तर्गतं दुष्टं तीर्थस्नानैर् न शुध्यति शतशो ऽपि जलैर् धौतं सुराभाण्डम् इवाशुचि
A mind corrupted within is not purified by bathing at tīrthas, even if washed hundreds of times with water, like an impure wine vessel.
न तीर्थानि न दानानि न व्रतानि न चाश्रमाः दुष्टाशयं दम्भरुचिं पुनन्ति व्युत्थितेन्द्रियम्
Neither tīrthas, nor gifts, nor vows, nor hermitages purify one whose intent is wicked, whose taste is for deceit, and whose senses are uncontrolled.
इन्द्रियाणि वशे कृत्वा यत्र यत्र वसेन् नरः तत्र तत्र कुरुक्षेत्रं प्रयागं पुष्करं तथा
Wherever a man dwells, having brought his senses under control, there is Kurukṣetra, Prayāga, and Puṣkara.
तस्माच् छृणुध्वं वक्ष्यामि तीर्थान्य् आयतनानि च संक्षेपेण मुनिश्रेष्ठाः पृथिव्यां यानि कानि वै
Therefore, listen as I shall speak, O best of sages, of the tīrthas and sacred places upon the earth, briefly, as they truly are.
विस्तरेण न शक्यन्ते वक्तुं वर्षशतैर् अपि प्रथमं पुष्करं तीर्थं नैमिषारण्यम् एव च
Even in a hundred years, it is not possible to describe in detail the first holy place Puṣkara and also Naimiṣāraṇya.
प्रयागं च प्रवक्ष्यामि धर्मारण्यं द्विजोत्तमाः धेनुकं चम्पकारण्यं सैन्धवारण्यम् एव च
I will also speak of Prayāga, Dharmāraṇya, O best of twice-born, Dhenuka, Campakāraṇya, and likewise Saindhavāraṇya.
पुण्यं च मगधारण्यं दण्डकारण्यम् एव च गया प्रभासं श्रीतीर्थं दिव्यं कनखलं तथा
Also the sacred Magadhāraṇya, Daṇḍakāraṇya, Gayā, Prabhāsa, the glorious holy place, and the divine Kanakhala.
भृगुतुङ्गं हिरण्याक्षं भीमारण्यं कुशस्थलीम् लोहाकुलं सकेदारं मन्दरारण्यम् एव च
Bhṛgutuṅga, Hiraṇyākṣa, Bhīmāraṇya, Kuśasthalī, Lohākula, Sakedāra, and also Mandarāraṇya.
महाबलं कोटितीर्थं सर्वपापहरं तथा रूपतीर्थं शूकरवं चक्रतीर्थं महाफलम्
Mahābala, Koṭitīrtha, which removes all sins, Rūpatīrtha, Śūkarava, and Cakratīrtha of great merit.
योगतीर्थं सोमतीर्थं तीर्थं साहोटकं तथा तीर्थं कोकामुखं पुण्यं बदरीशैलम् एव च
Yogatīrtha, Somatīrtha, the holy place Sāhoṭaka, the sacred Kokāmukha, and also Badarī mountain.
सोमतीर्थं तुङ्गकूटं तीर्थं स्कन्दाश्रमं तथा कोटितीर्थं चाग्निपदं तीर्थं पञ्चशिखं तथा
Somatīrtha, Tuṅgakūṭa, the holy place Skandāśrama, Koṭitīrtha, Agnipada, and also Pañcaśikha.
धर्मोद्भवं कोटितीर्थं तीर्थं बाधप्रमोचनम् गङ्गाद्वारं पञ्चकूटं मध्यकेसरम् एव च
Dharmodbhava, Koṭitīrtha, the holy place Bādhapramocana, Gaṅgādvāra, Pañcakūṭa, and also Madhyakesara.
चक्रप्रभं मतङ्गं च क्रुशदण्डं च विश्रुतम् दंष्ट्राकुण्डं विष्णुतीर्थं सार्वकामिकम् एव च
Cakraprabha, Mataṅga, the renowned Kruśadaṇḍa, Damṣṭrākuṇḍa, Viṣṇutīrtha, and also Sārvakāmika.
तीर्थं मत्स्यतिलं चैव बदरी सुप्रभं तथा ब्रह्मकुण्डं वह्निकुण्डं तीर्थं सत्यपदं तथा
The holy place Matsyatila, the splendid Badarī, Brahmakuṇḍa, Vahnikuṇḍa, and also Satyapada.
चतुःस्रोतश् चतुःशृङ्गं शैलं द्वादशधारकम् मानसं स्थूलशृङ्गं च स्थूलदण्डं तथोर्वशी
Catuḥsrota, Catuḥśṛṅga mountain with twelve streams, Mānasā, Sthūlaśṛṅga, Sthūladaṇḍa, and also Urvaśī.
लोकपालं मनुवरं सोमाह्वशैलम् एव च सदाप्रभं मेरुकुण्डं तीर्थं सोमाभिषेचनम्
Lokapāla, Manuvara, Somāhva mountain, Sadāprabha, Merukuṇḍa, and the holy place Somābhiṣecana.
महास्रोतं कोटरकं पञ्चधारं त्रिधारकम् सप्तधारैकधारं च तीर्थं चामरकण्टकम्
Mahāsrota, Koṭaraka, Pañcadhāra, Tridhāraka, Saptadhāra, Ekadhāra, and the holy place Cāmarakaṇṭaka.
शालग्रामं चक्रतीर्थं कोटिद्रुमम् अनुत्तमम् बिल्वप्रभं देवह्रदं तीर्थं विष्णुह्रदं तथा
Śālagrāma, Cakratīrtha, the unsurpassed Koṭidruma, Bilvaprabha, Devahrada, and also Viṣṇuhrada.
शङ्खप्रभं देवकुण्डं तीर्थं वज्रायुधं तथा अग्निप्रभं च पुंनागं देवप्रभम् अनुत्तमम्
Śaṅkhaprabha, Devakuṇḍa, the holy place Vajrāyudha, Agniprabha, Puṃnāga, and the unsurpassed Devaprabha.
विद्याधरं सगान्धर्वं श्रीतीर्थं ब्रह्मणो ह्रदम् सातीर्थं लोकपालाख्यं मणिपुरगिरिं तथा
Vidyādhara, with Gandharvas, the glorious holy place, Brahmā's lake, Sātīrtha, the place called Lokapāla, and also Maṇipuragiri.
