सोमस्य भगवान् वर्चा वर्चस्वी येन जायते धवस्य पुत्रो द्रविणो हुतहव्यवहस् तथा मनोहरायाः शिशिरः प्राणो ऽथ रमणस् तथा
Soma's son is the illustrious Varcā, from whom brilliance is born; Dhava's son is Draviṇa, the bearer of sacrificial offerings; from Manoharā comes Śiśira, as well as Prāṇa and Ramaṇa.
अनिलस्य शिवा भार्या तस्याः पुत्रो मनोजवः अविज्ञातगतिश् चैव द्वौ पुत्राव् अनिलस्य च
Anila's wife is Śivā, and her son is Manojava; also, Avijñātagati is another son of Anila—thus, there are two sons.
अग्निपुत्रः कुमारस् तु शरस्तम्बे श्रिया वृतः तस्य शाखो विशाखश् च नैगमेयश् च पृष्ठजः
The son of Agni is Kumāra, adorned with splendor on the shaft of a dart; his brothers are Śākha, Viśākha, and Naigameya, who was born from the back.
अपत्यं कृत्तिकानां तु कार्त्तिकेय इति स्मृतः प्रत्यूषस्य विदुः पुत्रम् ऋषिं नाम्नाथ देवलम्
The child of the Kṛttikās is known as Kārttikeya; Pratyūṣa's son is the sage called Devala.
द्वौ पुत्रौ देवलस्यापि क्षमावन्तौ मनीषिणौ बृहस्पतेस् तु भगिनी वरस्त्री ब्रह्मवादिनी
Devala also had two sons, wise and patient; Bṛhaspati's sister was a noble woman, learned in the speech of Brahman.
योगसिद्धा जगत् कृत्स्नम् असक्ता विचचार ह प्रभासस्य तु सा भार्या वसूनाम् अष्टमस्य तु
Perfected in yoga, she wandered unattached throughout the entire world; she was the wife of Prabhāsa, the eighth of the Vasus.
विश्वकर्मा महाभागो यस्यां जज्ञे प्रजापतिः कर्ता शिल्पसहस्राणां त्रिदशानां च वार्धकिः
Viśvakarmā, greatly fortunate, was born from her—a lord of creatures, the maker of a thousand arts, and the architect of the gods.
भूषणानां च सर्वेषां कर्ता शिल्पवतां वरः यः सर्वेषां विमानानि दैवतानां चकार ह
He is the maker of all ornaments, the foremost among artisans, and he indeed constructed all the celestial vehicles for the gods.
मानुषाश् चोपजीवन्ति यस्य शिल्पं महात्मनः सुरभी कश्यपाद् रुद्रान् एकादश विनिर्ममे
Humans also live by the skill of this great soul; Surabhī, from Kaśyapa, gave birth to the eleven Rudras.
महादेवप्रसादेन तपसा भाविता सती अजैकपाद् अहिर्बुध्न्यस् त्वष्टा रुद्रश् च वीर्यवान्
By the grace of Mahādeva and through asceticism, she was purified; Ajaikapāda, Ahirbudhnya, Tvaṣṭṛ, and the mighty Rudra were born.
हरश् च बहुरूपश् च त्र्यम्बकश् चापराजितः वृषाकपिश् च शंभुश् च कपर्दी रैवतस् तथा
Hara, Bahurūpa, Tryambaka, Aparājita, Vṛṣākapi, Śambhu, Kapardī, and Raivata as well.
मृगव्याधश् च शर्वश् च कपाली च द्विजोत्तमाः एकादशैते विख्याता रुद्रास् त्रिभुवनेश्वराः
Mṛgavyādha, Śarva, and Kapālī, O best of twice-born; these eleven, renowned as Rudras, are the lords of the three worlds.
शतं त्व् एवं समाख्यातं रुद्राणाम् अमितौजसाम् पुराणे मुनिशार्दूला यैर् व्याप्तं सचराचरम्
O best of sages, a hundred Rudras of immeasurable might have thus been described in the Purāṇa, by whom all that moves and does not move has been pervaded.
दाराञ् शृणुध्वं विप्रेन्द्राः कश्यपस्य प्रजापतेः अदितिर् दितिर् दनुश् चैव अरिष्टा सुरसा खसा
Hear now, O foremost of Brāhmins, of the wives of Kaśyapa Prajāpati: Aditi, Diti, Danu, Ariṣṭā, Surasā, Khasā,
सुरभिर् विनता चैव ताम्रा क्रोधवशा इरा कद्रुर् मुनिश् च भो विप्रास् तास्व् अपत्यानि बोधत
Surabhi, Vinatā, Tāmrā, Krodhavaśā, Irā, Kadrū, and Muni—O Brāhmins, know the offspring born from these.
पूर्वमन्वन्तरे श्रेष्ठा द्वादशासन् सुरोत्तमाः तुषिता नाम ते ऽन्योन्यम् ऊचुर् वैवस्वते ऽन्तरे
In the previous Manvantara, the twelve most excellent gods, called the Tuṣitas, spoke among themselves at the beginning of the Vaivasvata Manvantara.
उपस्थिते ऽतियशसश् चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे मनोः हितार्थं सर्वलोकानां समागम्य परस्परम्
When the renowned period of Cākṣuṣa Manu had come to an end, they assembled together for the welfare of all worlds.
आगच्छत द्रुतं देवा अदितिं संप्रविश्य वै मन्वन्तरे प्रसूयामस् तन् नः श्रेयो भविष्यति
"Come quickly, O gods, let us enter Aditi and be born in the coming Manvantara; that will be for our benefit."
एवम् उक्त्वा तु ते सर्वे चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे मनोः मारीचात् कश्यपाज् जातास् त्व् अदित्या दक्षकन्यया
Having thus spoken, all of them, during the interval after Cākṣuṣa Manu, were born from Aditi, daughter of Dakṣa, through Kaśyapa, son of Marīci.
तत्र विष्णुश् च शक्रश् च जज्ञाते पुनर् एव हि अर्यमा चैव धाता च त्वष्टा पूषा तथैव च
There, Viṣṇu and Śakra were born again, as well as Aryaman, Dhātṛ, Tvaṣṭṛ, Pūṣan likewise.
विवस्वान् सविता चैव मित्रो वरुण एव च अंशो भगश् चातितेजा आदित्या द्वादश स्मृताः
Vivasvān, Savitṛ, Mitra, Varuṇa, Aṃśa, and the radiant Bhaga—these twelve are known as the Ādityas.
सप्तविंशति याः प्रोक्ताः सोमपत्न्यो महाव्रताः तासाम् अपत्यान्य् अभवन् दीप्तान्य् अमिततेजसः
The twenty-seven wives of Soma, renowned for their great vows, bore offspring who were brilliant and of immeasurable energy.
अरिष्टनेमिपत्नीनाम् अपत्यानीह षोडश बहुपुत्रस्य विदुषश् चतस्रो विद्युतः स्मृताः
Of the wives of Ariṣṭanemi, who was learned and had many sons, there were sixteen offspring; four of them are known as the Vidyuts (lightnings).
चाक्षुषस्यान्तरे पूर्वे ऋचो ब्रह्मर्षिसत्कृताः कृशाश्वस्य च देवर्षेर् देवप्रहरणाः स्मृताः
In the interval after Cākṣuṣa Manu, the Ṛg hymns, honored by the Brahmarṣis, and the weapons of the devarṣi Kṛśāśva are remembered.
एते युगसहस्रान्ते जायन्ते पुनर् एव हि सर्वे देवगणाश् चात्र त्रयस्त्रिंशत् तु कामजाः
At the end of a thousand yugas, all these hosts of gods are born again here, thirty-three in number, born of desire.
तेषाम् अपि च भो विप्रा निरोधोत्पत्तिर् उच्यते यथा सूर्यस्य गगन उदयास्तमयाव् इह
O Brāhmins, even among them, creation and dissolution are described, just as the sun rises and sets in the sky.
एवं देवनिकायास् ते संभवन्ति युगे युगे दित्याः पुत्रद्वयं जज्ञे कश्यपाद् इति नः श्रुतम्
Thus, these classes of gods come into being in every age; it is heard that Diti bore two sons to Kaśyapa.
हिरण्यकशिपुश् चैव हिरण्याक्षश् च वीर्यवान् सिंहिका चाभवत् कन्या विप्रचित्तेः परिग्रहः
Hiraṇyakaśipu and the mighty Hiraṇyākṣa, and a daughter Siṃhikā, who became the wife of Vipracitti.
सैंहिकेया इति ख्याता यस्याः पुत्रा महाबलाः हिरण्यकशिपोः पुत्राश् चत्वारः प्रथितौजसः
Her sons, known as the Saiṃhikeyas, were of great strength; Hiraṇyakaśipu had four sons, renowned for their prowess.
ह्रादश् च अनुह्रादश् च प्रह्रादश् चैव वीर्यवान् संह्रादश् च चतुर्थो ऽभूद् ध्रादपुत्रो ह्रदस् तथा
Hrāda, Anuhrāda, the mighty Prahrāda, and Saṃhrāda was the fourth; Hrada was the son of Hrāda.
