There is no decline of righteousness among them, nor excessive joy or sorrow; nor is there any transgression of boundaries in those seven lands.
There are the Magas, Magadhas, Manasas, and Mandagas; the Magas are mostly Brahmins, and the Magadhas are Kshatriyas.
The Manasas among them are Vaishyas, and the Mandagas are to be known as Shudras; on Shaka island, Vishnu, in the form of the Sun, is present as Hari.
He is worshipped there, as described, with proper rites by those of disciplined mind; beyond Shaka island, O Brahmins, is the ocean of milk on all sides.
The ocean of milk is encircled on all sides by a ring equal in measure to Śākadvīpa, O Brahmins, and this is surrounded by what is called Puṣkara.
The island of Puṣkara, which is twice the size of Śākadvīpa in every direction, became the great region of Savana's son.
Dhātaki, likewise, had two regions named after him, both bearing the same designation; another great region was called Dhātakīkhanda.
There is one renowned mountain here, O fortunate ones, known as Mānasottara, which lies in the middle in the shape of a ring.
It rises fifty thousand yojanas high and is equally wide in every direction, forming a complete circle.
This mountain stands as if dividing the ring of Puṣkaradvīpa in the middle, and thus the two regions became separated.
Between these two regions, there is a single great mountain in the form of a ring, and humans live there for ten thousand years.
They are free from disease and sorrow, devoid of passion and hatred; among them, there are neither the lowest nor the highest, nor are there killers or those to be killed, O Brahmins.
There is no envy, jealousy, fear, anger, fault, or greed; the great region lies outside, and Dhātakīkhanda is within.
The Mānasottara mountain is served by gods, demons, and others; truth and falsehood do not exist in the island called Puṣkara.
There are neither rivers nor mountains in the island with its two regions; the humans there are of equal appearance, just like the gods, all of one form.
It is devoid of caste and stage of life, lacking the practice of dharma, without the three Vedas, agriculture, punishment, or service.
These two regions, O Brahmins, are the highest earthly heavens, granting happiness to all; time there is free from old age and disease.
In Puṣkara, Dhātakīkhanda, and Mahāvīta, O Brahmins, the banyan tree stands in Puṣkaradvīpa, the supreme abode of Brahmā.
There, Brahmā resides, worshipped by gods and demons; Puṣkara is surrounded by an ocean of sweet water.
The extent and circumference of Puṣkara are equal; thus, the seven islands are encircled by seven oceans.
Both the island and the ocean are equal, and the next is twice their size; the waters in all the oceans are always equal.
There is never any deficiency or excess among them, just as water in a pot does not overflow from contact with fire.
In the waxing and waning of the moon, O best of sages, the waters in the ocean increase and decrease, neither exceeding nor falling short.
At the moon’s rising and setting, during the bright and dark fortnights, the measure is one hundred and fifteen finger-breadths.
The increase and decrease of the oceanic waters are observed, O best of twice-born; in the Lotus Island, food appears there of its own accord.
The people there always partake of six-tasted food, O Brahmins, and around the sweet water, the existence of the world is seen.
Beyond that is the golden land, twice as wide, devoid of all living beings; then comes the Lokāloka mountain, stretching ten thousand yojanas.
Its height is likewise so many thousands, and then, enveloping that mountain on all sides, darkness is established.
And that darkness is surrounded on all sides by the shell of the cosmic egg; this earth, O best of twice-born, is fifty crores in extent.
Together with the shell of the cosmic egg, with its continents and mountains, this is the earth, the supporter and creator, endowed with all qualities of beings, the foundation of all worlds, O best of twice-born.
