Therefore, ascend the chariot swiftly; after slaying the great charioteer Bhoja, O mighty-armed one, the Syamantaka jewel will be ours.
Then a tumultuous battle began between Bhoja and Krishna; Shatadhanva, seeing Akrura, looked in all directions.
Seeing Bhoja and Janardana both enraged in battle, Akrura, though capable, did not join due to a curse upon him.
Then, struck by fear, Bhoja resolved to flee, and with his mare Hridaya, he covered a hundred yojanas and more.
Hridaya, famed as the mare who could travel a hundred yojanas, was Bhoja’s steed, O Brahmins, with whom he fought Krishna.
When Hridaya’s speed was spent after a hundred yojanas, seeing his own chariot’s advantage, Shatadhanva was struck down.
Then, O Brahmins, when the exhausted mare died from fatigue and distress, her life-breaths departed into the sky, and Krishna spoke to Rama.
Stay here, mighty-armed one, for my horses are spent; I will go on foot and seize the Syamantaka jewel.
Then Acyuta went on foot, O Brahmins, and near Mithila, he, master of supreme weapons, slew Shatadhanva.
But after slaying the mighty Bhoja, he did not see the Syamantaka jewel; when Krishna returned, the plough-wielder said, 'Give me the jewel.'
Krishna replied, 'It is not here.' Then Rama, filled with anger, repeatedly rebuked Janardana with words of reproach.
Because you are my brother, I forgive you; farewell, I am leaving. I have no business with Dvaraka, with you, or with the Vrishnis.
Then Rama, destroyer of foes, entered Mithila, and was honored by the king of Mithila with all desired offerings.
At that very time, Babhrus, foremost of the wise, performed all kinds of unrestricted sacrifices in various forms.
That wise and greatly renowned son of Gandini entered into the protective armor of consecration for the sake of safeguarding the Syamantaka gem.
Then, for sixty years, the righteous one devoted other jewels and various kinds of wealth solely to sacrifices.
Those sacrifices of that great soul became known as the Akrura-sacrifices, all abundant in food and gifts, bestowing every desired boon.
Then King Duryodhana, the lord, went to Mithila and there received divine instruction in mace-fighting from Baladeva.
Having been propitiated, Rama was then brought to Dvaraka by Krishna, the great soul, along with the mighty Vrishni and Andhaka warriors.
Akrura, the best of men, came together with the Andhakas, and, possessing great strength, killed Satrajit while he slept, along with his relatives.
Out of fear of discord among the kinsmen, Krishna at that time overlooked him; when Akrura departed, the lord of rain did not shower.
Because of that drought, the land became greatly impoverished; therefore, the Kukuras and Andhakas sought to appease Akrura.
When that lord of gifts returned again to Dvaraka, then the thousand-eyed one caused rain to fall in the region near the ocean.
Akrura, wise and noble, gave his virtuous sister as a bride to Vasudeva, O best of sages, out of affection.
Then Krishna, knowing through yoga that the gem had gone to Babhrū, addressed Akrura, who was in the midst of the assembly.
That jewel, the excellent gem, which is in your hand, O lord, give it to me; do not show me disrespect.
When sixty years had passed, the anger that was in me, O sinless one, had grown and recurred often; then a great delay occurred.
Then, at Krishna's word, Babhrū, the wise one, gave that gem without distress before the entire assembly of the Sātvatas.
Then Krishna, destroyer of enemies, joyfully gave that gem, which he had received from Babhrū's hand in all honesty, back to Babhrū.
Having received the Syamantaka jewel from Krishna's hand, the son of Gandini shone, adorned with it, like the radiant sun.
