When the time is unstable, devoid of substance, and action has ceased, people, oppressed by burdens, will seek refuge in the forests.
When sacrificial rites have ceased, demons, wild beasts, insects, mice, and serpents will attack people.

At the end of the age, those people who are best among their kin will find safety, abundance, health, and resources in certain places.
People will be their own protectors and their own thieves, gathering what they need for survival, and will form groups in different regions, each separate from the others.
Driven out from their own lands, devoid of substance, together with their relatives, all people will become so due to the exhaustion of time.
Then, out of fear, all people, taking their children, will flee and cross the Kauśikī river, afflicted by hunger and fear.
People will seek refuge in Aṅga, Vaṅga, Kaliṅga, Kāśmīra, Kośala, and the valleys at the ends of the Ṛṣi mountains.
They will take shelter along the entire side of the Himalayas, on the banks of the salty sea, and with various old leaves, bark garments, and animal skins.
Having made these themselves, they will dwell there at the end of the age; people will live in the forests together with groups of foreigners.
The earth will not become empty or forested anew; kings will become both protectors and non-protectors.
People will subsist on animals, fish, birds, wild beasts, snakes, insects, honey, vegetables, fruits, and roots.
Living on fallen leaves and fruits, having made bark garments and skins themselves, they will dwell as the sages do.
Without oiling seeds, struck with wooden stakes, they will always tend goats, sheep, donkeys, and camels.
They will dig river streams for water, settle on the banks, and trade among themselves with cooked food as their means of exchange.
Just as body hair grows, so too will impurity accumulate within; many will have children, yet lack progeny, and be devoid of family virtue and good conduct.
At that time, people will live unrighteously; the deficient will follow deficient dharma, and the populace will adopt it accordingly.
There, the maximum lifespan for mortals will be thirty years; weak, exhausted by sensual pursuits, overwhelmed by old age and sorrow.
Then, among them, diseases will cause the decline of the senses; due to obstruction of life expectancy, they will turn away from pleasures.

Thus, attentive in giving, in truth, and in protecting living beings, when dharma takes root, excellence will be attained.

Virtuous conduct prevails in the Krita age; in the impure age, decline is spoken of. Yet this is but one era, pale as the moon.
Just as the moon is covered by darkness, so is the Kali age; and as the moon is freed from darkness, so is the Krita age.
Praise is the supreme Brahman; they know it as the meaning of the Vedas. Unclear, unknown, inheritance is maintained here.
Praise is called austerity; austerity is established through age. Through virtues, action is accomplished; virtues are purified by action.
Blessings, seeing a person, follow place and time; in each age, as appropriate, they are declared by the sages.
For dharma, wealth, desire, liberation, and the gods, there are corresponding actions; auspicious and virtuous blessings, likewise lifespan, in every age.
Thus, the changes of the ages, long established, occur by the nature of fate; the world of living beings does not remain even for a moment, constantly changing through decline and rise.
