चौरप्रायाश् च राजानो युगान्ते समुपस्थिते कुण्डीवृषा नैकृतिकाः सुरापा ब्रह्मवादिनः
At the end of the age, kings will be mostly thieves; those who keep cows will be deceitful, and drinkers will speak of the Veda.
अश्वमेधेन यक्ष्यन्ते युगान्ते द्विजसत्तमाः याजयिष्यन्त्य् अयाज्यांस् तु तथाभक्ष्यस्य भक्षिणः
At the end of the age, excellent twice-borns will perform horse sacrifices, and they will cause the unfit to perform sacrifices, and eat what should not be eaten.
ब्राह्मणा धनतृष्णार्ता युगान्ते समुपस्थिते भोःशब्दम् अभिधास्यन्ति न च कश्चित् पठिष्यति
When the end of the age arrives, Brahmins, afflicted by greed for wealth, will utter the word 'Bhoh!' but none will study.
एकशङ्खास् तथा नार्यो गवेधुकपिनद्धकाः नक्षत्राणि विवर्णानि विपरिता दिशो दश
Women will wear a single ornament, bound with cowhide; the stars will lose their color, and the ten directions will be reversed.
संध्यारागो विदग्धाङ्गो भविष्यति युगक्षये प्रेषयन्ति पितॄन् पुत्रा वधूः श्वश्रूः स्वकर्मसु
At the end of the age, twilight will be red, bodies will be scorched; sons will send their fathers, and daughters-in-law their mothers-in-law, to their own tasks.
युगेष्व् एवं निवत्स्यन्ति प्रमदाश् च नरास् तथा अकृत्वाग्राणि भोक्ष्यन्ति द्विजाश् चैवाहुताग्नयः
Thus, in the ages, women and men will live without restraint; the twice-born will eat without offering the first portion into the fire.
भिक्षां बलिम् अदत्त्वा च भोक्ष्यन्ति पुरुषाः स्वयम् वञ्चयित्वा पतीन् सुप्तान् गमिष्यन्ति स्त्रियो ऽन्यतः
Men will eat on their own without giving alms or offerings; women will deceive their sleeping husbands and go elsewhere.
न व्याधितान् नाप्य् अरूपान् नोद्यतान् नाप्य् असूयकान् कृते न प्रतिकर्ता च युगे क्षीणे भविष्यति
At the end of the age, there will be no one to care for the sick, the unattractive, the poor, or the envious; no one will return a favor.
एवं विलम्बिते धर्मे मानुषाः करपीडिताः कुत्र देशे निवत्स्यन्ति किमाहारविहारिणः
Thus, when righteousness is delayed and people are oppressed by taxes, in what land will they dwell, and how will they obtain food and livelihood?
किंकर्माणः किमीहन्तः किंप्रमाणाः किमायुषः कां च काष्ठां समासाद्य प्रपत्स्यन्ति कृतं युगम्
What actions will they perform, what will they strive for, by what standard will they measure, what will be their lifespan, and by reaching what limit will they attain the Krita age?
अत ऊर्ध्वं च्युते धर्मे गुणहीनाः प्रजास् तथा शीलव्यसनम् आसाद्य प्राप्स्यन्ति ह्रासम् आयुषः
After this, when righteousness has declined, people lacking in virtue, having fallen into vice, will experience a decrease in lifespan.
आयुर्हान्या बलग्नानिर् बलग्नान्या विवर्णता वैवर्ण्याद् व्याधिसंपीडा निर्वेदो व्याधिपीडनात्
Lifespan will diminish, strength will be lost, and from that loss of strength will come loss of color; from loss of color, affliction by disease; from the pain of disease, despondency.
निर्वेदाद् आत्मसंबोधः संबोधाद् धर्मशीलता एवं गत्वा परां काष्ठां प्रपत्स्यन्ति कृतं युगम्
From despondency will arise self-knowledge; from self-knowledge, righteousness and good conduct. Thus, having reached the highest limit, they will attain the Krita age.
उद्देशतो धर्मशीलाः केचिन् मध्यस्थतां गताः किंधर्मशीलाः केचित् तु केचिद् अत्र कुतूहलाः
Some will be devoted to righteousness in certain places, some will remain neutral, some will have uncertain righteousness, and some will be merely curious about it.
प्रत्यक्षम् अनुमानं च प्रमाणम् इति निश्चिताः अप्रमाणं करिष्यन्ति सर्वम् इत्य् अपरे जनाः
Some people, convinced that direct perception and inference are the means of knowledge, will act as if there is no valid standard for anything at all.
नास्तिक्यपरताश् चापि केचिद् धर्मविलोपकाः भविष्यन्ति नरा मूढा द्विजाः पण्डितमानिनः
Some men, intent on atheism and destroyers of righteousness, will be foolish, and among the twice-born, some will pride themselves on being learned.
तदात्वमात्रश्रद्धेया शास्त्रज्ञानबहिष्कृताः दाम्भिकास् ते भविष्यन्ति नरा ज्ञानविलोपिताः
At that time, people will trust only what is present, excluding scriptural knowledge; they will be hypocrites, bereft of true knowledge.
तथा विलुलिते धर्मे जनाः श्रेष्ठपुरस्कृताः शुभान् समाचरिष्यन्ति दानशीलपरायणाः
Thus, when righteousness is in disarray, those people who are considered the best will practice good deeds, devoted to charity and virtuous conduct.
सर्वभक्षाः स्वयंगुप्ता निर्घृणा निरपत्रपाः भविष्यन्ति तदा लोके तत् कषायस्य लक्षणम्
At that time, people in the world will eat anything, protect themselves, be pitiless and shameless; this is the sign of the age of impurity.
कषायोपप्लवे काले ज्ञाननिष्ठाप्रणाशने सिद्धिम् अल्पेन कालेन प्राप्स्यन्ति निरुपस्कृताः
In the time of the rise of impurity, when the foundation of knowledge is destroyed, those who are unadorned will attain success in a short time.
विप्राणां शाश्वतीं वृत्तिं यदा वर्णावरे जनाः संश्रयिष्यन्ति भो विप्रास् तत् कषायस्य लक्षणम्
When people of lower castes take up the eternal livelihood of the Brahmins, O Brahmins, that is a sign of the age of impurity.
महायुद्धं महावर्षं महावातं महातपः भविष्यति युगे क्षीणे तत् कषायस्य लक्षणम्
There will be great wars, great rains, great winds, and great heat when the age declines; this is the sign of the age of impurity.
विप्ररूपेण यक्षांसि राजानः कर्णवेदिनः पृथिवीम् उपभोक्ष्यन्ति युगान्ते समुपस्थिते
At the end of the age, yakshas in the form of Brahmins and kings with pierced ears will enjoy the earth.
निःस्वाध्यायवषट्काराः कुनेतारो ऽभिमानिनः क्रव्यादा ब्रह्मरूपेण सर्वभक्ष्या वृथाव्रताः
Without study or ritual, bad leaders, arrogant, flesh-eaters in the guise of Brahmins, eating anything, and observing empty vows.
मूर्खाश् चार्थपरा लुब्धाः क्षुद्राः क्षुद्रपरिच्छदाः व्यवहारोपवृत्ताश् च च्युता धर्माश् च शाश्वतात्
Foolish, greedy for wealth, covetous, mean, with meager possessions, engaged in corrupt dealings, and fallen from eternal righteousness.
हर्तारः पररत्नानां परदारप्रधर्षकाः कामात्मानो दुरात्मानः सोपधाः प्रियसाहसाः
They will steal others' jewels, violate others' wives, be driven by desire, wicked, deceitful, and fond of risky pleasures.
तेषु प्रभवमाणेषु जनेष्व् अपि च सर्वशः अभाविनो भविष्यन्ति मुनयो बहुरूपिणः
Even among these people who are flourishing, there will arise many sages of various forms who will not endure.
कलौ युगे समुत्पन्नाः प्रधानपुरुषाश् च ये कथायोगेन तान् सर्वान् पूजयिष्यन्ति मानवाः
In the Kali age, those who become prominent and principal men will all be worshipped by people through the telling of stories.
सस्यचौरा भविष्यन्ति तथा चैलापहारिणः भोक्ष्यभोज्यहराश् चैव करण्डानां च हारिणः
There will be thieves of crops, as well as those who steal clothes, those who take food and provisions, and those who rob baskets.
चौराश् चौरस्य हर्तारो हन्ता हन्तुर् भविष्यति चौरैश् चौरक्षये चापि कृते क्षेमं भविष्यति
Thieves will rob thieves, killers will kill killers, and when thieves are destroyed by other thieves, there will be safety.
