दुर्भिक्षम् एव सततं सदा क्लेशम् अनीश्वराः प्राप्स्यन्ति व्याहतसुखं प्रमादान् मानवाः कलौ
In the Kali age, people will constantly suffer famine and hardship, lacking resources, and because of negligence, their happiness will be obstructed.
अस्नातभोजिनो नाग्निदेवतातिथिपूजनम् करिष्यन्ति कलौ प्राप्ते न च पिण्डोदकक्रियाम्
When the Kali age arrives, people will eat without bathing, and will not perform worship for fire, deities, or guests, nor will they offer the rites of food and water to ancestors.
लोलुपा ह्रस्वदेहाश् च बह्वन्नादनतत्पराः बहुप्रजाल्पभाग्याश् च भविष्यन्ति कलौ स्त्रियः
In the Kali age, women will be greedy, of short stature, intent on eating much food, and prone to excessive talk.
उभाभ्याम् अथ पाणिभ्यां शिरःकण्डूयनं स्त्रियः कुर्वत्यो गुरुभर्तॄणाम् आज्ञां भेत्स्यन्त्य् अनावृताः
Women will scratch their heads with both hands, and, uncovered, will break the commands of their elders and husbands.
स्वपोषणपराः क्रुद्धा देहसंस्कारवर्जिताः परुषानृतभाषिण्यो भविष्यन्ति कलौ स्त्रियः
In the Kali age, women will be devoted only to their own maintenance, angry, neglectful of bodily care, and will speak harsh lies.
दुःशीला दुष्टशीलेषु कुर्वत्यः सततं स्पृहाम् असद्वृत्ता भविष्यन्ति पुरुषेषु कुलाङ्गनाः
Women of noble families will become of bad conduct, constantly desiring men of wicked character.
वेदादानं करिष्यन्ति वडवाश् च तथाव्रताः गृहस्थाश् च न होष्यन्ति न दास्यन्त्य् उचितान्य् अपि
Women who are unchaste will recite the Vedas, and householders will not perform their proper duties nor give what is appropriate.
भवेयुर् वनवासा वै ग्राम्याहारपरिग्रहाः भिक्षवश् चापि पुत्रा हि स्नेहसंबन्धयन्त्रकाः
Those who dwell in the forest will accept food from the village, and even beggars will be bound to their sons by the ties of affection.
अरक्षितारो हर्तारः शुल्कव्याजेन पार्थिवाः हारिणो जनवित्तानां संप्राप्ते च कलौ युगे
When the Kali age arrives, rulers will not protect but will plunder, taking wealth from the people under the pretext of taxes.
यो यो ऽश्वरथनागाढ्यः स स राजा भविष्यति यश् च यश् चाबलः सर्वः स स भृत्यः कलौ युगे
Whoever possesses horses, chariots, or elephants will become king, and whoever lacks strength will become a servant in the Kali age.
वैश्याः कृषिवणिज्यादि संत्यज्य निजकर्म यत् शूद्रवृत्त्या भविष्यन्ति कारुकर्मोपजीविनः
The Vaishyas, abandoning their own duties such as farming and trade, will live by crafts, adopting the livelihood of Shudras.
भैक्ष्यव्रतास् तथा शूद्राः प्रव्रज्यालिङ्गिनो ऽधमाः पाखण्डसंश्रयां वृत्तिम् आश्रयिष्यन्त्य् असंस्कृताः
Likewise, Shudras will take up the vow of begging, wear the garb of renunciants, and the lowest among them, uninitiated, will adopt the ways of heretics.
दुर्भिक्षकरपीडाभिर् अतीवोपद्रुता जनाः गोधूमान्नयवान्नाद्यान् देशान् यास्यन्ति दुःखिताः
People, afflicted by famine and oppressive taxes, will suffer greatly and migrate to regions where wheat, barley, and other foods are available.
वेदमार्गे प्रलीने च पाखण्डाढ्ये ततो जने अधर्मवृद्ध्या लोकानाम् अल्पम् आयुर् भविष्यति
When the path of the Vedas is lost and heretics abound among people, due to the growth of unrighteousness, the lifespan of humanity will diminish.
अशास्त्रविहितं घोरं तप्यमानेषु वै तपः नरेषु नृपदोषेण बालमृत्युर् भविष्यति
When people practice severe austerities not prescribed by scripture, due to the faults of rulers, there will be premature death among children.
भवित्री योषितां सूतिः पञ्चषट्सप्तवार्षिकी नवाष्टदशवर्षाणां मनुष्याणां तथा कलौ
In the Kali age, women will give birth at five, six, or seven years old, and humans at nine, eight, or eighteen years.
पलितोद्गमश् च भविता तदा द्वादशवार्षिकः न जीविष्यति वै कश्चित् कलौ वर्षाणि विंशतिम्
At that time, gray hair will appear at twelve years of age, and no one will live for twenty years in the Kali age.
अल्पप्रज्ञा वृथालिङ्गा दुष्टान्तःकरणाः कलौ यतस् ततो विनश्यन्ति कालेनाल्पेन मानवाः
With little wisdom, false appearances, and corrupted minds, people in Kali perish quickly due to the brevity of their lives.
यदा यदा हि पाखण्डवृत्तिर् अत्रोपलक्ष्यते तदा तदा कलेर् वृद्धिर् अनुमेया विचक्षणैः
Whenever the conduct of heretics is observed here, then the wise may infer the increase of Kali.
यदा यदा सतां हानिर् वेदमार्गानुसारिणाम् तदा तदा कलेर् वृद्धिर् अनुमेया विचक्षणैः
Whenever there is a decline among the virtuous who follow the Vedic path, then the wise may infer the growth of Kali.
प्रारम्भाश् चावसीदन्ति यदा धर्मकृतां नृणाम् तदानुमेयं प्राधान्यं कलेर् विप्रा विचक्षणैः
Whenever the undertakings of the righteous fail, then the learned Brahmins may infer the dominance of Kali.
यदा यदा न यज्ञानाम् ईश्वरः पुरुषोत्तमः इज्यते पुरुषैर् यज्ञैस् तदा ज्ञेयं कलेर् बलम्
Whenever the Supreme Lord is not worshipped by people through sacrifices, then it should be known that Kali is strong.
न प्रीतिर् वेदवादेषु पाखण्डेषु यदा रतिः कलेर् वृद्धिस् तदा प्राज्ञैर् अनुमेया द्विजोत्तमाः
When there is no delight in Vedic discourse and pleasure is found in heretical teachings, then the wise, O best of Brahmins, should infer the growth of Kali.
कलौ जगत्पतिं विष्णुं सर्वस्रष्टारम् ईश्वरम् नार्चयिष्यन्ति भो विप्राः पाखण्डोपहता नराः
In Kali, O Brahmins, people corrupted by heresy will not worship Vishnu, the Lord of the world and creator of all.
किं देवैः किं द्विजैर् वेदैः किं शौचेनाम्बुजल्पना इत्य् एवं प्रलपिष्यन्ति पाखण्डोपहता नराः
People corrupted by heresy will speak thus: 'What use are gods, Brahmins, Vedas, purity, or lotus-chanting?'
अल्पवृष्टिश् च पर्जन्यः स्वल्पं सस्यफलं तथा फलं तथाल्पसारं च विप्राः प्राप्ते कलौ युगे
When the Kali age arrives, O Brahmins, the rain will be scant, crops will yield little, and their produce will be of poor quality.
जानुप्रायाणि वस्त्राणि शमीप्राया महीरुहाः शूद्रप्रायास् तथा वर्णा भविष्यन्ति कलौ युगे
Clothing will mostly cover only the knees, trees will be mainly shami, and the castes will be predominantly shudras in the Kali age.
अणुप्रायाणि धान्यानि आजप्रायं तथा पयः भविष्यति कलौ प्राप्त औशीरं चानुलेपनम्
Grains will be very small, milk will mostly come from goats, and in the Kali age, usira will be used as ointment.
श्वश्रूश्वशुरभूयिष्ठा गुरवश् च नृणां कलौ शालाद्याहारिभार्याश् च सुहृदो मुनिसत्तमाः
In the Kali age, mothers-in-law and fathers-in-law will be the chief elders, and friends will be those who share food from the same house, O best of sages.
कस्य माता पिता कस्य यदा कर्मात्मकः पुमान् इति चोदाहरिष्यन्ति श्वशुरानुगता नराः
People, following their fathers-in-law, will ask, 'Whose mother? Whose father? When is a man defined by his actions?'
