"O Lord, by whom you always illumine all the worlds, you ought to give me this jewel, O Blessed One, by which you shine."
Then, at that time, Bhaskara gave the Syamantaka jewel; and the king, fastening it on, entered the city.
People ran after him, saying, "The Sun is going!" Amazed, the king entered his own city and also his inner chambers.
That divine Syamantaka jewel, Prasenajit, the king lovingly gave to his excellent brother Satrajit.
That jewel produced gold in the houses of the Vrishnis and Andhakas, rain fell in due season, and there was no fear of disease.
Govinda desired to obtain the Syamantaka jewel from Prasena, but though able, he did not take it nor seize it.
Once, Prasena, adorned with the Syamantaka jewel, went hunting; because of the jewel, he was killed in the forest by a lion.
Then the mighty king of bears, seeing the lion running, slew it, took the jewel, and entered his cave.
Then the Vrishnis and Andhakas, suspecting Krishna because of Prasena's death, all began to accuse him regarding the jewel.
Suspected thus, the righteous Krishna resolved, 'I will recover the jewel,' and, having made this vow, went to the forest.
Where Prasena went hunting, there the men who were trusted and diligent followed the trail of Prasena.
Searching the mountain rich with bears and the excellent Vindhya range, the great-minded one, weary, continued his quest.
He did not find Prasena, slain along with his horse, nor the jewel; but a lion was seen not far from Prasena’s body.
The lion, killed by a bear, was found; the bear’s tracks were clearly indicated, and Mādhava followed those tracks to the bear’s cave.
There, in the bear’s cave, he heard a voice uttered by a woman, as she nursed Jāmbavat’s son, O twice-born ones.

As she played with the jewel, she said, 'Do not cry.'
'The lion killed Prasena; the lion was slain by Jāmbavat. Do not weep, gentle child; this Syamantaka is yours.'
Clearly hearing that voice, he swiftly entered the cave, and the Blessed One entered that bear’s cave directly.
He stationed the Yadus, along with the wielder of the plough, at the cave’s entrance, and inside the cave he saw Jāmbavat.
Vāsudeva fought with Jāmbavat in the cave, Govinda with his arms alone, for twenty-one days.
When Kṛṣṇa entered the cave, Baladeva and his companions went to Dvārakā city and reported that Kṛṣṇa had been slain.
Vāsudeva, having conquered the mighty Jāmbavat, received Jāmbavatī, the daughter esteemed by the bear king.
He took the Syamantaka jewel for the purification of himself, and after appeasing the bear king, departed from the cave.
Kṛṣṇa returned to Dvārakā with his humble companions; thus, having brought the jewel and purified himself, Acyuta.
He gave it to Satrājit in the assembly of all the Sātvatas; thus, Kṛṣṇa, falsely accused as a slayer of friends, returned it.
His self purified from sin, having recovered the Syamantaka, Satrājit had ten wives, and from them a hundred sons.
Among them, three were renowned: Bhagankāra, the eldest, Vīra, Vātapati, and Vasumedhas likewise.
