भजमानस्य सृञ्जय्यौ बाह्यकाथोपबाह्यका आस्तां भार्ये तयोस् तस्माज् जज्ञिरे बहवः सुताः
Bhajamāna had two wives, Sṛñjayi and Bāhyakā, and Upabāhyakā; from them, many sons were born.
क्रिमिश् च क्रमणश् चैव धृष्टः शूरः पुरंजयः एते बाह्यकसृञ्जय्यां भजमानाद् विजज्ञिरे
Krimi, Kramaṇa, Dhṛṣṭa, Śūra, and Puraṃjaya—these were born from Bhajamāna and Bāhyaka-Sṛñjayi.
आयुताजित् सहस्राजिच् छताजित् त्व् अथ दासकः उपबाह्यकसृञ्जय्यां भजमानाद् विजज्ञिरे
Āyutājit, Sahasrājit, Śatājit, and Dāsaka were born from Bhajamāna and Upabāhyaka-Sṛñjayi.
यज्वा देवावृधो राजा चचार विपुलं तपः पुत्रः सर्वगुणोपेतो मम स्याद् इति निश्चितः
The king Devāvṛdha, a performer of sacrifices, practiced great austerity, determined that his son would possess all virtues.
संयुज्यमानस् तपसा पर्णाशाया जलं स्पृशन् सदोपस्पृशतस् तस्य चकार प्रियम् आपगा
Engaged in austerity, living on leaves, and touching water, the river always pleased him as he continually purified himself.
चिन्तयाभिपरीता सा न जगामैव निश्चयम् कल्याणत्वान् नरपतेस् तस्य सा निम्नगोत्तमा
Overwhelmed by thought, she did not reach a decision, for the river, being excellent, was favorable to the king.
नाध्यगच्छत् तु तां नारीं यस्याम् एवंविधः सुतः भवेत् तस्मात् स्वयं गत्वा भवाम्य् अस्य सहानुगा
He could not find such a woman by whom a son of this kind would be born; therefore, I myself will go and become his companion.
अथ भूत्वा कुमारी सा बिभ्रती परमं वपुः वरयाम् आस नृपतिं ताम् इयेष च स प्रभुः
Then, having become a maiden, bearing a most splendid form, she chose the king, and that lord desired her.
तस्याम् आधत्त गर्भं स तेजस्विनम् उदारधीः अथ सा दशमे मासि सुषुवे सरितां वरा
In her, that noble-minded one placed a radiant embryo; then, in the tenth month, the best of rivers gave birth.
पुत्रं सर्वगुणोपेतं बभ्रुं देवावृधं द्विजाः अत्र वंशे पुराणज्ञा गायन्तीति परिश्रुतम्
She bore a son endowed with all virtues, Babhrū, Devāvṛdha, O twice-born; in this lineage, those who know the ancient lore are renowned for singing thus.
गुणान् देवावृधस्यापि कीर्तयन्तो महात्मनः यथैवाग्रे तथा दूरात् पश्यामस् तावद् अन्तिकात्
Even now, extolling the virtues of the great-souled Devāvṛdha, we see them from afar just as before, and so also from near.
बभ्रुः श्रेष्ठो मनुष्याणां देवैर् देवावृधः समः षष्टिश् च षट् च पुरुषाः सहस्राणि च सप्त च
Babhrū was the best among men, and Devāvṛdha was equal to the gods; sixty-six thousand and seven men,
एते ऽमृतत्वं प्राप्ता वै बभ्रोर् देवावृधाद् अपि यज्वा दानपतिर् धीमान् ब्रह्मण्यः सुदृढायुधः
These indeed attained immortality, even more than Babhrū and Devāvṛdha: sacrificers, generous lords, wise, devoted to Brahman, and steadfast in arms.
तस्यान्ववायः सुमहान् भोजा ये सार्तिकावताः अन्धकात् काश्यदुहिता चतुरो ऽलभतात्मजान्
His great lineage was the Bhojas, who were accompanied by the Sārtikas; from Andhaka, the daughter of Kāśya, he obtained four sons.
कुकुरं भजमानं च ससकं बलबर्हिषम् कुकुरस्य सुतो वृष्टिर् वृष्टेस् तु तनयस् तथा
Kukura, Bhajamāna, Śaśaka, and Balabarhiṣa; Kukura's son was Vṛṣṭi, and Vṛṣṭi too had a son.
कपोतरोमा तस्याथ तिलिरिस् तनयो ऽभवत् जज्ञे पुनर् वसुस् तस्माद् अभिजिच् च पुनर् वसोः
Kapotaromā was his son, and then Tiliri was born; from him was born Punarvasu, and from Punarvasu, Abhiji.
तथा वै पुत्रमिथुनं बभूवाभिजितः किल आहुकः श्राहुकश् चैव ख्यातौ ख्यातिमतां वरौ
Thus, indeed, Abhijit had twin sons: Āhuka and Śrāhuka, both renowned among the illustrious.
इमां चोदाहरन्त्य् अत्र गाथां प्रति तम् आहुकम् श्वेतेन परिवारेण किशोरप्रतिमो महान्
Here, they recite this verse about that Āhuka: 'Great as a youth, surrounded by a white retinue.'
अशीतिवर्मणा युक्त आहुकः प्रथमं व्रजेत् नापुत्रवान् नाशतदो नासहस्रशतायुषः
Āhuka, equipped with eighty coats of armor, should go first; not one without sons, not one without a hundred, not one with a thousand years of life.
नाशुद्धकर्मा नायज्वा यो भोजम् अभितो व्रजेत् पूर्वस्यां दिशि नागानां भोजस्य प्रययुः किल
Not one of impure deeds, not a non-sacrificer, should approach Bhoja; in the eastern direction, the Nāgas are said to have gone to Bhoja.
सोमात् सङ्गानुकर्षाणां ध्वजिनां सवरूथिनाम् रथानां मेघघोषाणां सहस्राणि दशैव तु
From Soma, ten thousand armies with standards and chariots, with troops and elephants, resounding like thunderclouds.
रौप्यकाञ्चनकक्षाणां सहस्राण्य् एकविंशतिः तावत्य् एव सहस्राणि उत्तरस्यां तथा दिशि
Twenty-one thousand with silver and gold armor, just as many thousands also in the northern direction.
आभूमिपाला भोजास् तु सन्ति ज्याकिङ्किणीकिनः आहुः किं चाप्य् अवन्तिभ्यः स्वसारं ददुर् अन्धकाः
The Bhojas, protectors of the earth, are skilled in the use of bows and jingling girdles; it is said that the Andhakas also gave their sister to the Avantis.
आहुकस्य तु काश्यायां द्वौ पुत्रौ संबभूवतुः देवकश् चोग्रसेनश् च देवगर्भसमाव् उभौ
To Āhuka and Kāśyā, two sons were born: Devaka and Ugrasena, both filled with divine power.
देवकस्याभवन् पुत्राश् चत्वारस् त्रिदशोपमाः देववान् उपदेवश् च संदेवो देवरक्षितः
Devaka had four sons, equal to the gods: Devavan, Upadeva, Samdeva, and Devarakshita.
कुमार्यः सप्त चास्याथ वसुदेवाय ता ददौ देवकी शान्तिदेवा च सुदेवा देवरक्षिता
And Devaki had seven daughters, whom she gave to Vasudeva: Shantideva, Sudeva, Devarakshita,
वृकदेव्य् उपदेवी च सुनाम्नी चैव सप्तमी नवोग्रसेनस्य सुतास् तेषां कंसस् तु पूर्वजः
Vrikadevi, Upadevi, Sunamni, and the seventh, Navogra—these were the daughters of Ugrasena; among them, Kamsa was the eldest.
न्यग्रोधश् च सुनामा च तथा कङ्कः सुभूषणः राष्ट्रपालो ऽथ सुतनुर् अनावृष्टिस् तु पुष्टिमान्
Nyagrodha, Sunama, Kanka, Subhushana, Rashtrapala, Sutanur, Anavrishti, and Pushtiman—
तेषां स्वसारः पञ्चासन् कंसा कंसवती तथा सुतनू राष्ट्रपाली च कङ्का चैव वराङ्गना
Their sisters were five: Kamsa, Kamsavati, Sutanū, Rashtrapali, and Kanka, all women of noble qualities.
उग्रसेनः सहापत्यो व्याख्यातः कुकुरोद्भवः कुकुराणाम् इमं वंशं धारयन्न् अमितौजसाम्
Ugrasena, along with his sons, has been described; born of the Kukura lineage, he upholds this dynasty of the mighty Kukuras.
