He gave them seats, and the boar provided shade for them; then, inviting them to rest, he entered and took the middle portion of the offering.
To his wife, the earth formed of shadow, the Lord gave the offering; she, taking form, said, 'The ancestors have received the embryo.'
Having received the offering, she bowed at the feet of the brahmins; the boar, wishing to perform the dismissal of the ancestors, also did so.
Kokā and the ancestors spoke words beneficial to themselves, saying, 'O Lord, we were previously cursed by the sun, the cold-rayed one, while in heaven.'
'You will all become fallen from yoga, cast down from heaven.' Thus, having been protected by you, we shall now enter the netherworld.'
The guardians of yoga, the lords of the universe, abandoned those fallen from yoga; may all the gods always protect us again.
'By your grace, O mighty one, we shall go to heaven; let Soma be our presiding deity, and may you, O Acyuta, uphold our yoga.'
'Let Soma, the support of yoga, always protect us; may we always dwell in heaven or on earth through yoga.'
'For some of us, may there be nourishment for a month in the midspace; and this, our wife, famed by the name Svadha, is indeed our strength.'
'Let her be rich in yoga, the mother of yoga, and moving in the sky.' Thus addressed by the ancestors, the boar, the sustainer of beings, replied.
Then Vishnu spoke to the ancestors and to Kokā, the great river: 'Whatever you have said to me, all this shall come to pass.'
'Yama shall be your presiding deity, Soma as declared in the svādhyāya, Agni as the adhiyajña; this is your arrangement.'
Agni, Vāyu, and Sūrya are indeed your abodes; Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Rudra are your supreme lords.
The Ādityas, Vasus, and Rudras—these are your forms; and the yogis, bodies of yoga, and streams of yoga, O virtuous ones.
You shall move about as you desire, bestowing fruits among all beings—those in heaven, those in hell, those on earth, both moving and unmoving.
By your own power of yoga, you shall nourish the excellent; this is energy, daughter of the Moon, embodiment of curds and honey.
She will become the highly fortunate Svadha, daughter of Dakṣa; here, this lovely-faced one will become your wife.
Known as Kokānadī, abiding with the king of mountains, possessing the great merit of countless sacred fords, protected by my own form.
From today onward, I shall dwell here, destroyer of sin; the vision of the Boar, its worship, grants merit, enjoyment, and liberation.
Drinking the water of Kokā destroys great sins; bathing at the fords is meritorious, and fasting here bestows heaven.
Giving here is declared inexhaustible, removing birth, death, and old age; in the dark fortnight of the month of Māgha, at the waning of the moon, by you.
Approaching the mouth of Kokā, you must remain for five days; at that time, whoever performs śrāddha for the ancestors there—
He will obtain the previously described reward, without doubt; on the eleventh and twelfth days, I shall always remain here.
Whoever, wise, fasts here, obtains the previously described fruit; now go, O highly fortunate ones, to your desired abodes as you wish.
Saying, 'I too shall dwell here,' he vanished; when Varāha departed, the ancestors, having addressed Kokā, went forth.
Kokā, together with the sacred fords, remained on the king of mountains, her shadow made of earth, her lap enlarged by the offering of balls of rice.
With faith, the beautiful one conceived the child of Varāha; from her was born a son, Bhauma, Narakāsura, and the city of Prāgjyotiṣa was given to him by Viṣṇu.
Thus have I spoken at the mouth of Kokā about Viṣṇu, the granter of boons, in his divine Boar form; hearing this, a man, freed from impurity and sin, attains the fruit of performing ten horse sacrifices.
Tell me again, O blessed one, in detail the procedure for śrāddha—how, where, when, for whom, and with what; tell this, O possessor of austerity.
Hear, O tigers among sages, the procedure for śrāddha in detail; how, where, when, for whom, and with what materials—I shall now explain.
