उपमद्गुस् तथा मद्गुर् मेदुरश् चारिमेजयः अविक्षितस् तथाक्षेपः शत्रुघ्नश् चारिमर्दनः
Upamadgu, Madgu, Medura, Arimejaya, Avikshita, Akṣepa, Shatrughna, and Arimardana—
धर्मधृग् यतिधर्मा च धर्मोक्षान्धकरुस् तथा आवाहप्रतिवाहौ च सुन्दरी च वराङ्गना
Dharmadhṛk, Yatidharma, Dharmoksha, Andhakaru, Avāha, Prativāha, and Sundarī, the excellent woman—
अक्रूरेणोग्रसेनायां सुगात्र्यां द्विजसत्तमाः प्रसेनश् चोपदेवश् च जज्ञाते देववर्चसौ
From Akrura and Sugātrī, O best of Brahmins, were born Prasena and Upadeva, both possessing divine brilliance.
चित्रकस्याभवन् पुत्राः पृथुर् विपृथुर् एव च अश्वग्रीवो ऽश्वबाहुश् च स्वपार्श्वकगवेषणौ
Citraka had sons: Pṛthu, Vipṛthu, Ashvagrīva, Ashvabāhu, and Svapārshvaka and Gaveṣaṇa.
अरिष्टनेमिर् अश्वश् च सुधर्मा धर्मभृत् तथा सुबाहुर् बहुबाहुश् च श्रविष्ठाश्रवणे स्त्रियौ
Ariṣṭanemi, Ashva, Sudharma, Dharmabhṛt, Subāhu, Bahubāhu, and the two women Shraviṣṭhā and Shravaṇā.
असिक्न्यां जनयाम् आस शूरं वै देवमीढुषम् महिष्यां जज्ञिरे शूरा भोज्यायां पुरुषा दश
In Asikni, he begot Shura, praised by the gods; in Mahishi, the heroic sons were born; in Bhojya, ten sons were born.
वसुदेवो महाबाहुः पूर्वम् आनकदुन्दुभिः जज्ञे यस्य प्रसूतस्य दुन्दुभ्यः प्राणदन् दिवि
Vasudeva, mighty-armed, formerly called Ānakadundubhi, was born, and when he was born, drums resounded in the sky.
आनकानां च संह्रादः सुमहान् अभवद् दिवि पपात पुष्पवर्षश् च शूरस्य जनने महान्
A great sound of drums arose in the heavens, and a great shower of flowers fell at the birth of Shura.
मनुष्यलोके कृत्स्ने ऽपि रूपे नास्ति समो भुवि यस्यासीत् पुरुषाग्र्यस्य कान्तिश् चन्द्रमसो यथा
Nowhere in the world of men was there anyone equal in form on earth to that foremost man, whose radiance was like the moon.
देवभागस् ततो जज्ञे तथा देवश्रवाः पुनः अनाधृष्टिः कनवको वत्सवान् अथ गृञ्जमः
From him were born Devabhaga, and again Devaśravā, Anādhṛṣṭi, Kanavaka, Vatsavān, and Gṛñjama.
श्यामः शमीको गण्डूषः पञ्च चास्य वराङ्गनाः पृथुकीर्तिः पृथा चैव श्रुतदेवा श्रुतश्रवा
Shyama, Shamika, Gaṇḍūṣa, and five excellent women: Pṛthukīrti, Pṛthā, Shrutadevā, Shrutaśravā—
राजाधिदेवी च तथा पञ्चैता वीरमातरः श्रुतश्रवायां चैद्यस् तु शिशुपालो ऽभवन् नृपः
And also Rājādhidevī; these five were mothers of heroes. From Shrutaśravā was born the king of the Chedis, Śiśupāla.
हिरण्यकशिपुर् यो ऽसौ दैत्यराजो ऽभवत् पुरा पृथुकीर्त्यां तु संजज्ञे तनयो वृद्धशर्मणः
Hiraṇyakaśipu, who was once the king of the Daityas, was born from Pṛthukīrti as the son of Vṛddhaśarman.
करूषाधिपतिर् वीरो दन्तवक्रो महाबलः पृथां दुहितरं चक्रे कुन्तिस् तां पाण्डुर् आवहत्
The heroic Dantavakra, lord of Karusha, of great strength, took Pṛthā as his daughter; Kunti, she was married by Pāṇḍu.
यस्यां स धर्मविद् राजा धर्मो जज्ञे युधिष्ठिरः भीमसेनस् तथा वाताद् इन्द्राच् चैव धनंजयः
From her was born the righteous king Yudhishthira, knower of dharma; from Vayu, Bhimasena; and from Indra, Dhananjaya.
लोके प्रतिरथो वीरः शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमः अनमित्राच् छनिर् जज्ञे कनिष्ठाद् वृष्णिनन्दनात्
In the world, Prativrata was a hero, equal in valor to Shakra; from Anamitra was born Shani, and from the youngest son of Vrishni's line.
शैनेयः सत्यकस् तस्माद् युयुधानश् च सात्यकिः उद्धवो देवभागस्य महाभागः सुतो ऽभवत्
From him came Satyaka, and from Satyaka, Yuyudhana known as Satyaki; Uddhava, the illustrious son of Devabhaga, was also born.
पण्डितानां परं प्राहुर् देवश्रवसम् उत्तमम् अश्मक्यं प्राप्तवान् पुत्रम् अनाधृष्टिर् यशस्विनम्
Among the learned, Devasravas is praised as the foremost; Anadhṛṣṭi, renowned, obtained a son from Ashmaka.
निवृत्तशत्रुं शत्रुघ्नं श्रुतदेवा त्व् अजायत श्रुतदेवात्मजास् ते तु नैषादिर् यः परिश्रुतः
Nivrittashatru, Shatrughna, and Shrutadeva were born; from Shrutadeva's sons came Naishadha, who is widely celebrated.
एकलव्यो मुनिश्रेष्ठा निषादैः परिवर्धितः वत्सवते त्व् अपुत्राय वसुदेवः प्रतापवान् अद्भिर् ददौ सुतं वीरं शौरिः कौशिकम् औरसम्
Ekalavya, best of sages, was raised among the Nishadas; to Vatsavati, who was childless, Vasudeva the mighty gave a heroic son, Shauri, his own offspring, to Kaushika by means of water rites.
गण्डूषाय ह्य् अपुत्राय विष्वक्सेनो ददौ सुतान् चारुदेष्णं सुदेष्णं च पञ्चालं कृतलक्षणम्
To Gandusha, who was childless, Vishvaksena gave sons: Charudesna, Sudeshna, and Panchala, marked with auspicious signs.
असंग्रामेण यो वीरो नावर्तत कदाचन रौक्मिणेयो महाबाहुः कनीयान् द्विजसत्तमाः
That hero, son of Rukmini, mighty-armed and youngest, never turned back from battle, O best of twice-born.
वायसानां सहस्राणि यं यान्तं पृष्ठतो ऽन्वयुः चारून् अद्योपभोक्ष्यामश् चारुदेष्णहतान् इति
Thousands of crows followed him as he went, saying, 'Today we shall feast on the slain by Charudesna.'
तन्त्रिजस् तन्त्रिपालश् च सुतौ कनवकस्य तौ वीरुश् चाश्वहनुश् चैव वीरौ ताव् अथ गृञ्जिमौ
Tantrija and Tantripala were the two sons of Kanavaka; Viru and Ashvahanus, both heroes, were the two sons of Grinjima.
श्यामपुत्रः शमीकस् तु शमीको राज्यम् आवहत् जुगुप्समानो भोजत्वाद् राजसूयम् अवाप सः
Shamik, son of Shyama, attained the kingdom; though he despised the Bhoja lineage, he performed the Rajasuya sacrifice.
अजातशत्रुः शत्रूणां जज्ञे तस्य विनाशनः वसुदेवसुतान् वीरान् कीर्तयिष्याम्य् अतः परम्
Ajatashatru was born for the destruction of enemies; now I shall recount the heroic sons of Vasudeva.
वृष्णेस् त्रिविधम् एवं तु बहुशाखं महौजसम् धारयन् विपुलं वंशं नानर्थैर् इह युज्यते
Thus the mighty and many-branched lineage of Vrishni is described in threefold manner; maintaining a vast family here is not desirable for those seeking no purpose.
याः पत्न्यो वसुदेवस्य चतुर्दश वराङ्गनाः पौरवी रोहिणी नाम मदिरादितथावरा
The wives of Vasudeva, fourteen in number and of excellent beauty, were Pauravi, Rohini by name, Madira and others of noble form.
वैशाखी च तथा भद्रा सुनाम्नी चैव पञ्चमी सहदेवा शान्तिदेवा श्रीदेवी देवरक्षिता
Also Vaishakhi, Bhadra, Sunamni as the fifth, Sahadeva, Shantideva, Shrīdevi, and Devarakshita.
वृकदेव्य् उपदेवी च देवकी चैव सप्तमी सुतनुर् वडवा चैव द्वे एते परिचारिके
Vrikadevi, Upadevi, and Devaki as the seventh; Sutanū and Vaḍavā, these two were attendants.
